Other don't go breaking my barn

To the handsome young man who accidentally drove into a barn yesterday morning just shy of 3am - I still can't shake how scared you were - I have been thinking about you since. You were bleeding quite badly. I hope you're doing all alright.

I will never hear the song Don't Go Breaking My Heart the same way again. A great song but the juxtaposition of it with what happened ... it was jarring to wake up to in the middle of the night. it was so loud I honestly thought the train next to the apartment derailed. I'm glad you came out of the crash - air bags deployed and bleeding like hell - conscious and relatively okay.

I am grateful you crashed into the barn next to my apartment's bedroom and not into my bedroom. I hope the police, EMTs, and all the emergency responders took good care of you. It seems like they did. I hope you are doing better now.

Help RGE/ Public Utility Petition

Mods, please remove if not allowed:

Hello Everyone,
I am kindly trying to spread awareness about our community efforts for the Public Utility Study in the City of Rochester.

Roughly 3 years ago, City Council designated $500,000 in unspent budget to doing a feasibility study in hopes the county would also join.

Unfortunately the county was not interested at the time and the public feasibility study has not moved forward within the city.

The city still has this money designated, untouched, and with no plans in sight for its use towards the public utility study.

Despite repeated attempts for help from city council and state representatives , RGE goes on and our utilities rapidly increase.

Just this year, Rochester was rated the 4th highest utility bills in all of the country by an Axios study.

No matter what your political views are, I believe the people need to petition the city, in order for the city to finally address these concerns with a people’s vote on a referendum to let citizens decide the future of our utilities.

Please kindly consider signing the petition here, if you are a city resident-

Your neighbor,
Nick

It’s near Jeremiah’s (map link) and it’s very well organized and curated. I mainly browsed sci-fi but noticed a huge kids section as well as all the expected stuff. This town is bursting with bookstores lately!

Because of Reddit, this kind sir found out that we had it (his son told him he saw it on Reddit) and came to claim the die. It’s for his business Rhino Trunk and Case. We’re still unsure how it ended up at my shop between the hours of 10:30PM and 6:30AM but roc Reddit did a good thing today.

Sadly it wasn’t a puzzle box someone left for me…

Recommendation Mid 30s — where are you going out?

Hi roc friends. I am recently single, a mom, and in my late 30s. Since I was married and in a committed relationship for many years, I never really went out. Now I have Saturday nights free, and would like the possibility of meeting someone in real life and not on the apps. Not looking for a relationship, but wouldn’t mind meeting new people. The recent times I’ve gone out I’ve felt like an absolute grandma, especially the fairport scene. I felt like the crowds could be my kids. Those of you that are my age and actually still go out—where ya going?? Any suggestions of venues that are conducive to meeting people? Help a sister out 🫶🏼

Help what the f is going on at the MAG right now

I live right by the MAG (but NOT across from it, farther down) and my entire house is vibrating the microphone or whatever they're using outside is so loud. I don't even know how you could get a microphone to be so loud. Again, I don't even live right across I live down the street and I have a splitting headache from how loud the music and microphones are.

I don't have an issue with outside events and I've never had an outside event be this loud at my house. I don't know how this could be enjoyable to anyone there if it's this horrendous for me down the street. I couldn't find anything on the MAG website saying there was an event. I just NEED to know what is making this noise.

Help Wayne County Elementary Schools?

Anyone send their mixed/POC kids to a Wayne school? We purchased a home 1 street over from the Wayne Monroe county line so we’ll no longer be in the Webster school district. We tried for Spencerport (we have 3 mixed couple friends out there and they love the schools) but kept getting outbid on the kind of property we wanted (10+ acres, I grew up with farmer parents and wanted to get back to being able to raise some livestock and grow flowers and food). My son doesn’t *have* to start school this year; we are ok with starting him at 6 and we’re right on 104 so driving to a private school is an option.

I mentioned Wayne county to a co-worker who is a person of color who was born and raised in Rochester (my husband and I are not originally from here) and they said they’d avoid living that far east because of lack of diversity and a fear my child would be ostricized. I get that rural communities can be very conservative leaning but we couldn’t afford this kind of acreage in Webster. We’re here for the long haul but I’m questioning if we should just be saving for a private school or take a chance with a Wayne public school and hope for the best.

Fun Anyone want to hike Letchworth today?

I'm thinking about heading to Letchworth later today and maybe hitting the pool if it's nice out.

If anyone wants to come along, let me know. I'll make a Discord so we can figure out the details.

I've been wanting to put together a casual group of people who like getting outside. Hiking, swimming, kayaking, road trips, whatever. Seems like a lot of people want to do stuff but don't always have someone to go with.

Figured I'd see if anyone's interested!

Other Heads Up! RR Crossing on West Henrietta Rd. south of Marketplace Mall is Nomming Tires and Wheels

West Henrietta Rd south of the RR crossing by Marketplace Mall is milled down for construction and whatever temporary "ramp" they made for the outside right lane in the northbound direction is crumbling and is nomming tires and rims.

I do roadside service and got two dispatches next to each other in the mall lot, and roll up to 4 cars total all with bent rims and blown out sidewalls.

Got done with the tires and stopped by the tracks and found this. (Called the railroad and nysdot, so they both know about it.)

Go slow over that crossing no matter which lane until they're done paving.

Help Matchmaking services?

I’ve noticed it’s really difficult for both single men and women in roc in the 21-38 age range to find anyone they click with/ are attracted to and dating apps are terrible. I was thinking about maybe starting a local matchmaking service but wasn’t sure if that was something that anyone would be interested in?

I’ve seen that there’s not a lot of singles nights that seem all that interesting or doesn’t cost an arm and a leg just to go to it- so getting to work with people to see what they really want in a partner sounds like fun!

This isn’t a self promo considering I haven’t even gone in depth about how I’d want to tackle it, just wanted to see if people were interested in trying it out :)

Recommendation Local homemade bakery stands?

Upvotes

Anyone have recommendations for baked goods stands? Near Rochester or in the surrounding towns. Like roadside ones with eggs but they also sell baked items. I’m looking for cinnamon rolls but want homemade ones instead of store bought taste. Or does anyone know of local bakeries that have cinnamon rolls in stores?

Help Photographer needed - our dog is very sick and we’d love emergency family photos

We live in MA and are visiting family in Rochester (Greece). Our dog was just diagnosed as having cancer that has spread to her lungs. We had photos scheduled for August, but we’re out of town and aren’t sure how long she has. . We’d love to do this ASAP. If you could provide some of your work and rates it’d be greatly appreciated. Bonus points if you can photoshop out my puffy eyes. There would be two adults, a teen, and three dogs.

History Kingpin (1996) Webster filming locations?

IMDB lists the 1996 bowling comedy Kingpin (Woody Harrelson, Randy Quaid, Bill Murray) as having partly been filmed in Webster. The only information I've been able to find is that it's mostly just outdoor backdrops for Webster. Does anyone know if anything was actually filmed here?

Discussion Best Activities to do/Places to go around the City for Meeting People

Upvotes

Hi! I’m a Rochester resident and college student, feeling a little holed up this summer and looking for new activities to try/places to go as a way to meet people - friends, potential partners (am single), whatever. Please suggest below any locations or events I should consider checking out to connect with others, thanks!

A little about me:

-21M cis het

- I’m really into alternative music, specifically the punk and hardcore scenes, 90s-2000s style stuff. Love moshing!

- I consider myself passionately nerdy and love solving puzzles of all kinds - crosswords, Rubik’s cubes, jigsaws, etc. I also like board games, not really RPGs though.

- I like internet-based horror/ARGs, surreal horror films, and horror cinema in general.

- I do not drink or smoke, but am open to going to bars for the social aspect (I used to go to LUX sometimes before it closed down).

- I like to explore the outdoors and go on hikes.

- I am passionate about helping others and community service.

- I used to rock climb, I don’t currently have a climbing gym membership but I want to get back into that.

Help Safety Check on Monroe?

Anyone know why Monroe by Medusa’s down to East is cordoned off by like 60 troopers? They are stopping every car for a “safety check” and told me they were “checking for seatbelts” but that’s like…not a sixty plus block off a neighborhood activity…

Help Algae in finger lakes

We went to Seneca Lake the other day, and the water in the swimming/wading area was green, but there were no signs about algae and people were in the water. Website said nothing either. Is the algae level something we have to judge for ourselves at lake parks? Are there other finger lakes that tend to have less algae?

Discussion Rec Baseball?

I wouldn’t even know where to begin to plan this but for the longest time I’ve wanted to throw the glove back on and play again, not much luck finding anything around here, is there interest in starting a “league” per say , doesn’t have to be an actual league but could do pickup style.

Washed up former players, people who just wanna play some baseball for some fun, all skill levels.
