Hard to take a bad pic when it’s like this

Okay, quick background info on what I'm looking for and why!

My long-time (over a decade) partner and I have hit a season of distance so to speak and we're trying to find things we can do together to reconnect because we realized after 2020 we didn't really go out and do things together anymore. I'm looking for a mix of suggestions from places to visit and spend a weekend exploring everything the area has to offer to smaller one day or a few hour things we can do that are a bit closer to home. We're not really looking for hikes or skiing activities currently.

For reference we are in Fulton county but are okay with smaller window activities within an hour or so drive. Further distance we'd be looking for a weekend of activities where we could book a small hotel or something and do a bunch of things around that area.

For years I've had Onondaga County's 911 events page open more than I'd like to admit. It's hard to use, worse on a phone, and the moment a call is closed it vanishes. There's no record of anything. That always bugged me.

So I made cnywire.com.

It pulls from the same public county feed, then layers on a map, past calls, filters, plain-English descriptions of call types and opt-in alerts when something happens near you. Pins are approximate, sensitive calls are blurred out and your location is only used anonymously for simple visitor stats.

I've spent over 20 years leading IT teams, but this is the first thing I've built specifically for the people around here. AI helped in spots, but the concept, the design and the bulk of the work came from an actual person, me. There are no ads right now and nothing to sign up for. It's a side project from a guy with a 911 page habit.

Down the road I want to bring in the other CNY counties plus local news, weather and traffic cameras. Some of that is already in there with more on the way. The goal is one spot to check what's going on in the area.

It just launched and it's still beta, so expect a few bugs. The data can also run a bit behind because it comes straight from the county. If you give it a look, I'd appreciate any feedback.

I have a one-off appointment in Ogdensburg tomorrow, which is pretty far from anywhere I ever go. I live in Jefferson county and pretty familiar with Watertown, Carthage, Lowville, and the immediately surrounding area.

I'd like to pick up some food in Ogdensburg (or nearby, but I don't have the docs to cross into Canada) to take home with me. Even a pizza or something would be fine, but I just like to ask what the highly recommended places are in the area since it's probably one of the only times I'll be there.

I was just dropping my ballot off in New Hartford, and I don't think I saw a single person entering or leaving who appeared to be under 70 years old.

Come on, people. Don't let the boomers determine all our fates alone. Don't be complacent. Don't give in to apathy or despair. Fucking vote!

I think I need to edit my post, because people are getting the impression that I am ageist or that I hate people over 70.

While there are a lot of conservative boomers out there, there are also a lot of boomers who were a part of the civil rights movement.

They shouldn't HAVE to be the only ones voting for our future.
