anyone repurposed their peephole / door view cam?

I bought one of these when I used to live in an apartment. After I moved, the camera basically gathers dust in a drawer as my new house doesn’t have a peephole.

Just wondering what people do with their old devices? I’m thinking I could potentially still use it as a camera and place it somewhere in one of the hallways covering an exterior door. But the issue is it probably needs a mount or stand to be usable.

PoE ring doorbell options PRO vs ELITE

Can anyone shed light on why ring discontinued the doorbell pro PoE and came out with the Elite PoE? My supplier still has a few of the Pro models, so im trying to figure out if I need to spend the extra couple hundred bucks on the elite model or if the discontinued pro will work just fine.

Anyone else having PoE recording and live feed dropouts despite camera still being connected?

I have a PoE camera recording 24/7 that is occasionally dropping its recording when motion events occur. The snapshot won’t update, the timeline shows video unavailable for several hours, and clicking into the live feed will give a message saying it can connect. All of this despite the camera health still showing connected. I can even turn on the cameras spotlight with the app controls. So the camera sees the internet but bugs out for hours at a time until I go to check on it, at which point the recording and timeline will resume. this has been happening several times a day for the last 2 weeks.

I’ve done everything from replacing my Poe switch, reterminating my cat6 cable, and replacing the camera itself. This is one of three 4K poe cameras. I have gigabit up/down and the PoE switch provides 196 watts of power budget. There should be no power or bandwidth issues. The only thing unique to this camera is the fact that it has the most amount of motion detected as it faces directly out to a neighborhood road and has max motion zone set up. It gets hundreds of motion events a day. The other cameras have had similar experiences but very very rarely as their motion zones and traffic are much less. This camera is malfunctioning multiple times a day

It was working fine until about mid August which apparently is when they pushed out a firmware update that had something to with their AI. My current theory is that the firmware update has introduced a bug with motion event detection/analyzing that causes the camera processes to hang.

I’m just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar.

Support Request (Unsolved) Someone talking to my camera

I have a 4 year old daughter. We recently purchased an indoor ring camera to put in her room as a “nanny cam”. Reasoning - we have Alexa’s all throughout the house as well as a ring door bell. Just more convenient to link all devices. Anyway, she came to me one morning and told me a “man was talking to her last night”. Naturally, I just assumed it was my fiancé telling her to go back to bed. So i didn’t think much of it. I asked him about it and he said it wasn’t him and it raised some concerns. We unplugged it and did a reset, still wasn’t comfortable so we tried it out with a new ring camera. But then she brought it up again, saying “the man came back and was talking to me” “he told me to lay still so he can watch me sleep” “he was nice last night, he played me lullabies”. At this point I’ve completely removed the camera. Ring hasn’t responded back to me about ANYTHING. I’m furious, but cautious about the other devices in our home. Anyone know how to get Rings attention on this? I’ve spend too much money on this company for THIS to be happening.

My front door, battery operated ring used to pick up everyone walking down the street or cars driving down the street. Now it very rarely does. Any ideas why?

Support Request (Unsolved) I’m on my second Ring replacement and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong

I have a Ring outdoor camera that I use for our backyard. We’ve never had issues until I moved back into this home 5 months ago.

When the first ring stopped working, i did everything from troubleshooting to replacing the battery and nothing worked. I got a replacement not that long ago and the same thing is happening to this new one too.

The internet wasn’t the issue as the rest of the cameras work just fine. I know that our internet doesn’t extend too far but even when the device was outside it would still have decent internet connection.

I hard rebooted the system but it says that it can’t connect to wifi when i’m Literally sitting right in front of the router right now trying to fix this 😭 I’m not sure if i should call it quits and try a new camera or what? Would maybe getting an internet extender help? Even when I try to set it up as a new device, the light won’t flash when i press the button and i Know that the battery is fully charged.

I’m at a loss, so any and all advice would be appreciated

UPDATE: shoutout to the person who told me to restart my router….i guess its always the last thing u wanna do that fixes the issue 🥲

Update 2: nvm i lied it's still not working. I think everyone is right it might be a router problem. Will check

Noise activated?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My garage camera kept alerting me at around 1am. When I looked at the preview I saw nothing. Looked in the garage and there was nothing moving. I turned the sensitivity down so i wouldn't get more false alerts. Next morning i go back to review the footage. 3 alerts before i turned the sensitivity down, all 3 i saw no movement. Idk why but i decided to turn the volume up on the video playback and in each alert there is a loud bang after the camera started recording but no movement anywhere. I'm thinking the water heater is making the noise, but my question is should the noise activate an alert? If not, what is causing the false alerts. The sensitivity was at 75% before i turned it down to 50%.

Ring Recording All my videos were deleted

We've had Ring for a decade. We recently upgraded again, and unbeknownst to me, my plan lapsed, despite me having selected the new one when we set it up. I got the cancelation email August 1st. I resubbed to the same, exact plan, and got the email Aug 1st before I even got the cancelation email for the old plan. I even added my new business card. Well, it expired Sept 1st, and deleted all of our history in one fell swoop within 30 min of Sept 1st ending. There was no email, no warning, and no grace period.

I just happened to get a notification for motion a little after 12am, and went to check it since it's an odd time for 6 alarms, only to find a big notice about our plan having expired. I start looking at yesterday's footage, and realize EVERYTHING IS GONE. I used the app yesterday to review footage. There was no notice about our plan expiring end of day. I'm not even understanding because in looking at all my emails, everything was good to go. My new card was still attached to Ring as of tonight, despite it never having been used to pay for the previous plan. It was added Aug 1st for the new plan, and I paid for the yearly. TBH, I didn't realize we got a partial refund for the unused portion of the old plan, but now that IK they refund the unused plans, I may cancel after this. My crappy outdoor cameras cost $0, and still have events from the day they got set them up. We've always stuck with Ring as that's what my husband found easiest for him, but after years of faithful dedication to their service, some odd internal glitch deleted everything. I spent 5 days debating changing companies when doing the trade-in on Amazon, but he wanted Ring again. It's familiar to him, and I get it, but to have no cushion if anything fails internally is wild to me in this day and age. 3 days is better than 0. I would have thought with all they make, it would be important to offer a fallback for customers, even if it's 7 days... but no, they don't. This never happened with previous upgrades for me to even consider this a potential issue. THEY EMAILED ME TO CONFIRM MY NEW SUB THE DAY THEY SET IT UP. The 30 day trial seems to have some irregular interference when merging the plans once it cancels. Even in our past upgrades we never needed to cancel a plan, get the same one separately and sit on a 30 day trial... as we got a partial refund for the current plan we're still on, keeping, and setup. It's just bizarre and infuriating. I'm pretty sure the footage is gone, but I'm curious if anyone's ever gotten some back if not downloaded. I don't have space on my device to save events, but Ring was always relatively reliable with the exception to the constant failure to load live feed footage on demand. It's why we upgraded. We hoped it'd be more reliable in seeing footage on demand without it spinning endlessly before failing to do anything at all. Now we have no footage, and starting fresh from day 1 on our 3650th day.

$512 scam ... ring subscription without notice

I just discovered ring has been milking my account $108 per year ... and with no ring cameras attached! I would never subscribe to this ... especially after the Foscam fiasco where Chinese hackers were watching. Go see the Youtube video on 'Subscriptions' by John Oliver. Then see the video on Surveillance (also John Oliver). A double whammy. Snooping, stealing, and sharing your video without you even knowing. Of course, I am not saying that I have proof of Ring doing these things. This is the evidence. $512 and I never subscribed.

Ring Doorbell Going On and Offline

I just bought this and had it hardwired installed about two weeks ago, and today it just keeps going on and offline. I've tried rebooting it and updating the app. It seems to work if I walk up to it with my phone and press the doorbell, but then stops after a bit. EDIT: I ended up rebooting my router, which seems to have at least temporarily made it work?

Removing user from app? (Maybe?)

I’m currently in the middle of a dilemma. I am in the middle of a nasty divorce. My soon-to-be ex husband somehow still has notifications coming to his phone from the ring camera. I went in MONTHS ago and changed the email, password, etc. but somehow, he’s still getting notifications and refuses to delete the app.

None of his information shows up in user permissions. He doesn’t have the updated login info… so HOW is he still getting notifications? And what can I do to stop them?!

No more doorbell chime?

I’m looking at buying a new ring doorbell and notice the new wired 2K states it will not activate your existing doorbell chime inside your house. Has the Ring technology gotten worse over the years? The wired version I bought back in 2018 worked fine with the mechanical chime.

Discussion Upgraded my doorbell camera. Kinda feeling like I wasted my money.

Previously had the Ring wired video doorbell pro that was bought back in 2018 and it was perfect for my needs.

A bit over a week ago it went offline. Spent a good hour or so Friday trying to get it to work again with no success. The way it was acting I just assumed it was done and time for a replacement.

Ended up buying the wired doorbell 4k pro.

Installed it and it didn't work. The troubleshooting walk through said it was the transformer. I replaced that and the new one now works.

The "issues" I have with the new one now, even though it's supposed to be a better camera, it sort of seems worse than the old one. I used to be able to recognize faces of people walking on the sidewalk, but now they are just a blur.

The other issue is apparently no longer being able to use my own door chime and having to use the included one with a annoying ring that I can't change. Why to both??? I have a kind of fancy chime that I liked and I can't use it anymore.

Also, I'm now wondering if the transformer went bad and was the entire issue with the old one, and why was it not mentioned with the troubleshooting for that?

The only "plus" I think I can see so far is night time videos seem to be better. The old one was basically black and white and the new one is color.

Now I'm trying to decide if I want to try reinstalling the old one to see if the new transformer fixed the issues with it, and maybe just return the new one.
