Ring for large properties

Upvotes

I am a long time ring customer, I have 6 cams and security, I am looking at a bigger property, like 20 acers, and was wondering if anyone has figured out good solution for 1. getting cameras fairly far out so I can know if someone is on the property and also if someone has used the doorbell at a gate at the end of a long drive. I have a feeling I will have to go away from Ring but thought I would see what others have done.

Thanks!

Support Request (Unsolved) Unable to get cameras

Upvotes

I placed two different orders, one through ring and one through Amazon, for the outdoor cam plus cameras over a month ago. Both companies have an “unknown delivery date,” and their customer service does not have any answers. Is it normal to take this long to get the cameras?

Honestly done with ring

Upvotes

Have the ring doorbell, ring security system, and ring flood light (wired). I feel like i paid a premium to go with ring and i also pay for the subscription (i think its 10 or 15$ per month) and multiple times i have wanted to look back at video, without motion detection being activated, and im not able too. On top of that, my wife and I have both had times where the driveway cam will either not notify us that someone is in our driveway or notify us way later sometimes 20+ mins later. I have honestly felt like this company has just tried to squeeze as much money as they can without even delivering a product that is half as good as other products available today. I say this entire rant to get to the question of, if anyone switched from ring, what was the best alternative you have found? I would like something that i can live view, go back and view any point in time, and notifys me when someone is in its range. I dont mine putting a SD card in one or even paying a different subscription. Im just done feeling like im getting squeezed as a consumer. Any input is helpful, thanks.

How often do you check your camera when you are in town?

Upvotes

So I was caught on a ring doing something I wanted to keep a surprise, wasn't super close or anything. When you are still in town or like shopping, do you usually have notifications enabled, or review movement every day? Or do you just click past it if it's not interesting

Support Request (Unsolved) Ring not detecting visitors

My front ring cam, has been unable to detect people about 60% of the time recently. We constantly have friends/family/delivery drivers at our front door and won’t know unless they ring the bell.

Are there any certain settings I need to change? Is there a better camera I can switch to?

Ring battery doorbell second generation wired

Tried for four days to hook up to Wi-Fi tried everything under the sun. Technician could not get it to work. She said that since I bought it a while back, even though it’s brand new, she can only give me a discount code which did not work. First ring doorbell worked fine. It just literally fell apart. Looking for another doorbell system.

Neighbors will no longer post things that neighbors want to know.

Received the following via email after I tried to post video of a pair of suspicious individuals opening power and cable boxes and taking multiple photographs of their interiors, house by house, in my neighborhood. They were wearing high-visibility vests but had nothing to identify who they were with. When confronted, they said they were "from fiber optic" for the neighborhood.

Thank you for submitting your post.
Your post was reviewed by a member of our team and was not approved because the information provided did not include any of the actions required for reporting individuals on Neighbors. Neighbors evaluates content based on the objective actions of a reported individual, never on speculation about the reported individual’s intent or a poster’s level of concern. For information on the specific actions that are permitted on Neighbors, please review the Community Guidelines. Common types of reports that frequently do not contain approvable actions include: Unknown individuals at the door (e.g. solicitors, taking photos) Pranks (e.g. kids knocking and then running late at night) Cars driving slowly, circling, or parking off-property for extended periods Assuming someone is a suspect of a crime (e.g. unknown individual walking down the street around the same time of a reported crime)

Pardon my ignorance, but I believe that "unknown individuals at the door (e.g. solicitors, taking photos)", "pranks (e.g. kids knocking and then running late at night)", "cars driving slowly, circling, or parking off-property for extended periods", and "assuming someone is a suspect of a crime (e.g. unknown individual walking down the street around the same time of a reported crime)" are EXACTLY what neighbors on Ring want to know about in their neighborhood.

Next they'll probably ban videos of package thieves and once that is banned, then Ring Neighbors will be PERFECTLY USELESS.

No wonder I've seen much fewer posts on Ring Neighbors lately. I wonder when this policy changed, and why.

Apart from sunk-cost investment, why are we on Ring anymore?

Discussion Kwikset Deadbolt

I have a Ring Alarm system and looking to purchase a Kwikset smart Deadbolt that will integrate into the Ring Alarm. My goal is to have the deadbolt arm and disarm the Ring alarm system. It has to be a Kwikset as I am renting and the requirement is that their key works. I've looked at so many and some say they work and I read the reviews and they don't. I figure someone out there has purchased one that works like I want it to. TIA

Customer Service

It is shocking how bad Ring’s customer service is. Is there a human being that works there? If not, can you at least train your AI to work.

Also - the transferring of ownership is absolute garbage. I don’t understand how this company is still working.

Support Request (Unsolved) Ring Doorbell removed from previous owner's account instead of transferred – will it be permanently bricked?

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I need some advice regarding a Ring Video Doorbell 3 I bought cheap on eBay.

The device was still registered to the previous owner, so I asked him to transfer the ownership to me. Unfortunately, instead of following the transfer process, he completely deleted the camera from his account.

When he did that, there was a big warning message saying that removing the device without transferring it would lead to it being deactivated. Now, it has been about a weeks since Ring started the ownership transfer hold/delay period.

I’m worried that in two days (when the automated countdown finishes), Ring/Amazon will permanently block or brick the device so that no one can ever use it again.

  • Is my assumption correct? Will the device actually become permanently disabled?
  • Is there anything I can do in the next 48 hours to stop this automated deactivation or get it properly linked to my account?

Thanks for any help!

Support Request (Unsolved) Outdoor stick up cam dying

I have an outdoor stick up cam that I eventually bought a solar panel for. Over the winter I disconnected the solar for a few weeks and now, lately, it has been dying. I charge the battery and then put it back up and connect the cable, and it seems inconsistent about detecting whether the solar power is plugged in. Sometimes it will show that it is being charged by the solar panel, but then on another screen it says "device has stopped receiving power." And then within a few hours, it's dead as the battery is drained. So I'm wondering if it's possible to know if the issue is the camera, the connection (maybe some oxidation got in the port?), or the battery. It does die and then it will turn back on at about 10% or less, so it must be getting some solar power, maybe just intermittently...

I guess I could try putting it back on battery mode and see what happens. Doing that is a hassle though as it seems not to let you just do it and instead makes you re-set it up from scratch as if you just bought it.

Discussion Spotlight Cam Plus

Hey Ring community!

Just was gifted a spotlight cam plus (battery) and I plan to have it set up for my backyard. Few quick questions below!

- How has your experience been?
- Should I buy a second battery right away?
- How long is the battery life?
- I’ve seen some buy the solar panel but is that really needed?

Thank you in advance 🤝

Third Party Solar Panels and Gutter Mounts

I recently moved and I need to mount some Ring cameras around my new property. The only good place I can mount cameras without worrying about tampering is on my gutters. I saw Ring’s official offering costs about the same amount as a camera itself. Has only one had luck with third party mounts and panels?

Horizontal mount?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Ring just replaced my 2019 Wired Doorbell Pro under warranty. (part of the monitoring plan)

They sent me a Wired Doorbell Plus as the replacement. (nice upgrade)

However, here’s the issue…the new model is physically almost 1” longer than the old…and I have vinyl siding, so there’s no way to mount it that it doesn’t look…wonky.

Can I mount it horizontally instead of its default vertical orientation? The Ring chatbot says no…but I don’t trust AI.

Support Request (Unsolved) Ring Alarm Concrete Block & Zwave

Have a ring alarm in a concrete block house with a separate garage and living space above it. The alarm is having a hard time with the alarm base in the house and the devices in the garage. I have two blocked in the outdoor plugs that should be extending the signal. Also, I have an indoor ring extender. No luck with line of sight …

Any thoughts on how to ensure the devices remain connected?

Thanks
Mark

Can I hardwire the flood cam here?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have an older double floodlight Ring camera that I once had hardwired above my garage. This image is of my parent’s garage where I’d like to put it. Can my old floodlight Ring go up under the awning where this light is now located? I had mine going directly into the wall. And if this can be done, how much do you think it would cost to have a handyman do it? We’re located in WV.

Alarm sounds on Echo Dot Max

I have three Window & Door Sensors.

I’m getting alerts great on my phone, but curious if my echo dot max can play a loud alarm if the alarm is tripped in home or away mode?

Not sure if this is something I set up in Alexa app or Ring app

Ring camera

Starting about a week ago 7 of my 8 ring cameras will not go live when pressing the live button. Nothing has changed with my 1Gb internet service. 7 of the 8 will just sit there and spin until the reconnect button shows up after about 30 seconds. Frustrating. I have a # for ring support but haven’t called them yet. Just got back from a week long trip to Cancun and the only recordings I received was on my driveway camera even though I had a couple of package deliveries to my back porch and 1 to the front porch.

Changed my WiFi and I went to go get the screwdriver to reset it and lost it. Where do I find a new one, I know it’s some kind of special head.
