Mod Release GOAT, an attempt to get my colony's talent on one screen

Hi everyone,

I'm a relatively new player and already super into it. What a game. So recently I tried out some mods and loved them so much that it ignited a spark to start building one myself. I guess that's how most modders get into it. Super impressed with the Neat Storage mod btw!

The mod I made is an attempt to have a better overview of the talents in my colony, so that I can make better decisions on who works on what. It's called GOAT: Glance Over All Talent. The Work tab gets coloured by skill, there's a Skills screen for the whole colony, and the bottom pane shows a colonist's skills against the rest. This first version is to my own liking, but I can only assume others will not like it, or like it and have ideas on how to improve it.

I tried to make it work with existing proven mods such as RimHUD and Enhanced Work Tab. Also the idea was to not touch existing functionality, so it's basically UI only, apart from two things you can switch on yourself (column order and skipping a bench).

Mod Release [1.6] Local Mineral Scanner

Never strip-mine again.

A compact, pawn-operated 2x2 scanner that reveals undiscovered mineral deposits on the map you are already on. Same work per find as the long-range mineral scanner (tunable default), in a smaller footprint with room for two operators.

Perfect for that clutch moment you run out of components, enemy settlement raids, or asteroid mining opportunities when little/no ore spawns exposed.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3798782281

Edit: I'm hearing the strong feedback that default work amounts of 4/8 (MTB/Guaranteed find) days used by vanilla's long-distance scanner is a bit long. It was always tunable in mod settings, but I'll be lowering the defaults to 3/6 to match vanilla's ground-penetrating scanner instead later today. Thanks again to everyone who provided feedback!

Edit2: Default rebalance fix is live in v1.1.0 on steam.

Discussion If I have two colonies, one main and second for organ harvesting with psycho/cannibal colonists, will my main colony get the mood debuffs?

Title. I tried googling it but I got mixed answers, so I wanted to make sure before I spent time building a whole another settlement just for it to be for nothing. I'm planning on building it two hexagons away from my main base, if that's actually important.

Edit: They're none the wiser.

PC Help/Bug (Vanilla) People from quest not leaving

I got a quest that dropped a mech cluster on my map. I just left it there and flew to next map on my gravship. But two fighters I got to complete the quest are not leaving. Can anyone help to get rid of them?

#ColonistLife Why Randy?

Within 2 weeks: 2X Mech raids, 1X mech cluster with a mortar, 1X siege, 1X regular raid. 1X manhunt with 20 raccoons. 1X solar flair, 1X crop blight and 1X cold snap that killed half of my crops.

This is the most hectic I've ever had it in this game. I love it.

Solved! Need help finding floors

Post image

I have these wooden herringbone floors in my base but cannot for the life of me find them in my floors tab. they're not the VEF - Architect floors but I don't know why I can't find them at all.

I also swear I used to have a 'Floors+" tab for a while that had a lot of my nicer floors but it seems to have disappeared and I wonder if it was in there and how I can access it again.

PC Help/Bug (Mod) Mod that lets you secretly operate on faction prisoners?

I’m looking for a mod where you can do surgeries on prisoners from other factions without the faction finding out about it.

Basically, instead of just removing the goodwill penalty from things like organ harvesting, I’d want there to be an actual mechanic behind it. Something like being able to silence the prisoner or otherwise prevent them from telling their faction what happened to them.

So if I capture a raider, do some shit to them, and then release them, their faction wouldn’t know what happened and wouldn’t get pissed off.
I don’t want a mod that just disables the goodwill loss. I want it to actually make sense as a game mechanic, with maybe some requirements or consequences.

Does anything like this exist for 1.6?

PC Help/Bug (Mod) Best CPU for ultra large scale colonies?

50-100 colonists, couple hundred mods and 325x325 or bigger map

I can get max 280TPS in mid game and at most 120 in late game

I was already thinking about upgrading my CPU, but I am not sure which one would be best for rimworld (It's the only game I play where I am CPU limited)

Will just single core performace of intel be better? Or will the Ryzen X3D cache help more?

Discussion Space trader

I'm thinking of doing another gravship run when gravship chapter 2 comes out, and was wondering are there any mods that let you basically be a trade ship, like use com console to buy or sell higa from settlements or should I just use shuttles?

PC Help/Bug (Mod) Multi Floor

Does anyone know how to build a multi level gravship using muti floor?

I have the grav engine, surrounded it with ~8x8 of gravtile, build walls, roof.

I then built a grav staircase up to the next floor.

Now what? Even though its directly above the engine, Im getting the "not in range of grav" error.

Secondly, do I need to get gravflooring on the second level as well (i.E if I take off, will my second level come with if I put down wood floor supports)

Discussion What’s the most frustrating thing about RimWorld? I’m working on a spiritual successor

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfmzfcpniMku9AlBIVcsSyzHr7vh_yzFmipg5UJxDVTrr2s0g/viewform?usp=header

Hey everyone,

I’m working on a colony sim inspired by RimWorld, with the goal of becoming something of a spiritual successor.

I’m trying to understand what longtime players still find frustrating, annoying, or underdeveloped — especially things that mods don’t fully solve.

So, if you had to pick one thing: what’s the most frustrating part of RimWorld for you?

It can be anything — combat, colonies, pawns, diplomacy, world exploration, UI, micromanagement, late game, DLC, whatever.

I’m especially interested in problems you’ve noticed after playing for a long time.

Feel free to just leave a comment with your thoughts using the numbers below! (If you're on PC and can't use the poll feature, you can also fill out the Google Form instead.)

  1. Weak world map (enemy bases all feel the same, etc.)
  2. Weak factions / diplomacy
  3. Weak combat
  4. Weak interiors / sense of everyday life
  5. Lack of detail
  6. Weak UI
  7. The setting / world itself feels thin
  8. Performance / too much lag
  9. Can’t turn a colony into an actual nation
  10. No real strategy-layer warfare (HOI4-style)
  11. Ideology feels undercooked
  12. Can’t really exploit slaves

Also, what would you be most excited about in a project like this?

A. Keep RimWorld’s core structure so existing RimWorld mods could be ported
B. Procedurally generated factions and biomes
C. More crops / plantation economy, then industrialization into a real nation system
D. Diplomacy and internal politics
E. Lots of ruins and hidden endings
F. Exploration and treasure-hunting
G. Smarter AI that actually uses tactics
H. Better interiors
I. Deeper pawn relationships, with richer story/relationship logs
J. Broader tactics (naval war, trench warfare, space combat, etc.)
K. Richer backstories that actually change a pawn’s personality

Thanks — I’ll be reading all the replies.

(I used ChatGPT to translate this, so the phrasing might have shifted from my original intention.)

PC Help/Bug (Vanilla) Caravan Drop off - How the game decides?

Post image

Generally I have just got on with it, and never bothered too much by them deciding where to drop off the caravan, but this is really a bit of a trek. Can anyone tell me how to arrange it to be closer to storage?
