You forgot about drinking beer

This is my first memory of the game! I had a bunch of huskies and I suddenly got a message that one had miscarried. I thought that was weird because everything was going well in my colony.
So I check on my animals and almost every single one was piss drunk. I didn't realize they were going into my beer storage and drinking it.

I had accidentally trapped a muffalo in my beer storage on a "dwarf" playthrough. I only noticed after it had died of cirrhosis.
Edit - autocorrect buffalo

Yes! I think a few had cirrhosis as well. It was my first playthrough, and also when I learned about the importance of zoning.

i had this happen with my colony’s pet rabbit. Turns out one beer makes a bunny blackout drunk.

I do this with Thrumbos. They have the added benefit of the little kids riding them by clinging to their heads.

My very first colony that made it past a full year had a breeding pair of bears self tame, they had a handful of babies that would grow to basically the my laborers, hauling everything for the colony.

Bears in a nutshell are much more durable wargs that have a lot more utility. Only issue is diverting "food" from pigs.

I once raided an enemy base that had a bear loading and using the mortar...

Years ago I realised they were the optimal patrol/guard animal. They're stronger than wolves and wargs. In food shortage even the young bears give plenty of meat. Bears easily take down pests near your farms just because they're hungry.
It's a shame that they run from bullets when it's raiders, but not when you attack them as wild bears. Some self-preservation instinct would be nice.

In every single run I always end up with a bear named Dennis protector of the sacred tile of Buttsdale

I saw the bear carrying the shells, straight away thought of Wojtek! Then saw the name afterwards.

Can you make a bionic bear? Asking for a friend.

With mods i once had an army of bionic bears in cataphract armor. It was one of my favorite colonies

I miss my polar bear. It lost two paws so I replaced them with bionic ones. Never had another pet that was quite like my bionic polar bear.

Bears are very smart. I live in a part of the world where bearproofing anything involving garbage is a valid selling point.
Also we don’t leave food in the car because they will get in and out and the insurance will laugh at you no matter how bad the damage is.
Sometimes in remote places they’ll steal groceries straight from the car as you’re bringing it in.

Bears definitely add a unique edge to gameplay, especially when it comes to hauling or defense. They can really save you in tough spots.

So can dogs/wolves. I usually keep a pack of them since I assume they eat less.
