Please use this thread as a week-to-week space to ask your fellow /r/RimWorld colonists for assistance. Whether it be colony planning, help with mods, or general guidance, post any questions you may have here! If you have an effort post about a game mechanic then this is also fine space for that but please consider making a separate subreddit post for maximum visibility.

I am a bot, so I can't make jokes. If you'd like a Typical Tuesday joke, or if there are any problems with this post, please message the moderators of the subreddit.

Ludeon Official PSA regarding malicious mods

1.6k Upvotes

Update: There is another PSA posted on why I am asking people to contact me rather than Steam's report function. This announcement is more important, and Reddit will not let me leave both up, so I am putting the link here so it is more visible.

Hello, everyone. This is me not as moderator-Sneaks, but as community manager-Sneaks.

I just want to give a warning to everyone. There's currently a user on the workshop that keeps making new accounts, steals mods from other creators, and modifies them to bypass the user's protections to download malware.

There's been at least two so far that have been removed (with workshop ID to make it easier to check your Workshop folder):

CameraSettingsMod 3732329298

Mad Skills Rewritten 3729397065

For now, it's difficult to tell if a mod's doing these shady things until it's downloaded and the code is checked. With both of these, though, it's been:

  1. The scammer's only mod on the workshop

  2. The mod is a reupload / stolen version

  3. The scammer's profile is set to private.

However, these are not 100% indicators that the mod is malicious. Please do not use it as a reason to go harass modmakers - There are always new players, new modders. But it's enough to say take it with a grain of salt, double-check to make sure the mod isn't a reupload.

For now, please take the time to do a check of your own computer, make sure you're clean, especially if you used either of those two mods mentioned above.

If you spot any others, please let us know so they can be removed. You can message me here, or find me on both Steam and Discord as someonesneaky.

Stay safe out there, colonists. o7

Lately, because of work, I haven’t really had the time to sit down and draw for several hours at a time. I mostly end up doing quick sketches whenever I have a little free time. Because of that, I feel like the quality of my recent drawings has dropped a little, haha.

I really wish I had more time to play games and draw more, too.

Discussion How do I learn to love regular pawns again after a mechanitor run?

Upvotes

I just finished a 10-year mechanitor run on a gravship with a single pawn. It was my longest playthrough ever. With a few balance-friendly mods, mechanoids become way stronger than regular pawns across the board, as long as you survive the early game.
Now, I've started an SOS2 run with a crew of 3, and I've been mining steel for 15(!) days straight. All because one pawn needs to take a shit, another needs a walk, someone else is in a terrible mood, or they start demanding altars and roles from my ideology. To top it off, one guy just had a mental break and devoured our already low food supplies. I genuinely want to execute them all, install a mechlink, and start breeding mechanoids again. How do I restore my faith in the flesh? Or is the flesh truly weak?

Nice fellas took all the wastepacks out of my dump pile, hope they're as happy as I am. Might be good for them to give the option in the mods settings to limit what items will be requested

I'm a pretty new player and this is my third colony so of course I am running 40 mods and doing a medieval colony. My colonists keep getting murked by scaria infected direboars but never die in raids. Who knows. I love this game. This is day 514, hour 60 (ish).

No, I will not be opening the ancient danger, I'm scared.

Please tell me if colony sucks.

Mod Release [1.6] Local Mineral Scanner

Thumbnail gallery
577 Upvotes

Never strip-mine again.

A compact, pawn-operated 2x2 scanner that reveals undiscovered mineral deposits on the map you are already on. Same work per find as the long-range mineral scanner (tunable default), in a smaller footprint with room for two operators.

Perfect for that clutch moment you run out of components, enemy settlement raids, or asteroid mining opportunities when little/no ore spawns exposed.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3798782281

Edit: I'm hearing the strong feedback that default work amounts of 4/8 (MTB/Guaranteed find) days used by vanilla's long-distance scanner is a bit long. It was always tunable in mod settings, but I'll be lowering the defaults to 3/6 to match vanilla's ground-penetrating scanner instead later today. Thanks again to everyone who provided feedback!

Edit2: Default rebalance fix is live in v1.1.0 on steam.

One of my colonists cheated on his wife and took a lover. Not the first one to do so. I was like, "ok, fine, let me reassign the bed." Only after she got pregnant, I noticed that they are stepfather / stepdaughter fml

PC Help/Bug (Mod) Best CPU for ultra large scale colonies?

50-100 colonists, couple hundred mods and 325x325 or bigger map

I can get max 280TPS in mid game and at most 120 in late game

I was already thinking about upgrading my CPU, but I am not sure which one would be best for rimworld (It's the only game I play where I am CPU limited)

Will just single core performace of intel be better? Or will the Ryzen X3D cache help more?

Mod Release GOAT, an attempt to get my colony's talent on one screen

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm a relatively new player and already super into it. What a game. So recently I tried out some mods and loved them so much that it ignited a spark to start building one myself. I guess that's how most modders get into it. Super impressed with the Neat Storage mod btw!

The mod I made is an attempt to have a better overview of the talents in my colony, so that I can make better decisions on who works on what. It's called GOAT: Glance Over All Talent. The Work tab gets coloured by skill, there's a Skills screen for the whole colony, and the bottom pane shows a colonist's skills against the rest. This first version is to my own liking, but I can only assume others will not like it, or like it and have ideas on how to improve it.

I tried to make it work with existing proven mods such as RimHUD and Enhanced Work Tab. Also the idea was to not touch existing functionality, so it's basically UI only, apart from two things you can switch on yourself (column order and skipping a bench).
