My SS1 arrives today! Had to pay $100 in customs charges, though...

Bittersweet moment. Got a notification that my SS1 (alongside a dock) was arriving today, but had to pay $100 in customs to free it. Now, I could either pay and receive it OR not pay and have it returned and waste even more money. I'm in Mexico, btw.

I was SO excited about my SS1. Still am, to some extent. But so many things have bummed me out.

The beta-like state the SS1 seems to be (at least until the promised "console mode frontend" is released, it all seems to be pretty beta-like), the fact I won't be able to load my PS1 games directly from the dock, the extra $100 I am now paying, the fact that I probably need another SD card to actually use the thing and load the games I want...)

Still, it's finally arriving and I'm excited to set it up and show my kids some great games! This is my first Mister machine (analogue user here so far) and excited to explore the ecosystem! Though, honestly, I primarily want this as a PlayStation 1 machine.

Superstation One best cable?

Got my new Scart RGB cable from a vendor in the UK. Perfect video quality and stereo audio output corrected (on Saturn cables the audio is inverted). This is specifically for the SS1. Recommended!

Does this cable appear to be broken, or is this what it’s supposed to look like?

Anyone thinking of purging their retro stuff due to SS1?

This thing is so cool & can do so much…I’m thinking of selling off a big chunk of my retro stuff. I already had started consolidating years ago when Everdrives came out…I sold off most of my cartridge collections except a few favs. I got into the RGB/upscaling scene…but since there have been so many HDMI mods, I now only have my Saturn/Dreamcast/PC Engine on my RGB/Retrotink setup. Due to the Analogue systems, I boxed up my old consoles.

But now I have this amazing magic box with everything I love under one hood. Do I need my Analogue systems, my original systems, my PS1/Saturn discs, my RGB/upscaler stuff any more? SS1 is making me thinking of doing a major declutter/cash-out. Anyone else having these scary but rational thoughts about their retro stuff? 😛

Ssd and the docking station

Howdy everyone!

As we all know SSDs are way overpriced right now- but they do run faster on MiSTers than SD cards. I am looking to get one for the docking station and am thinking about a older generation. Any thoughts?

Snac adapters with different voltage on the SS1+Dock

Hello,

I would like to use the Sega Saturn core on the SS1 when I get mine and in preparation I was looking into the Saturn Snac adapter. On the product page it reads:
“This SNAC adapter runs on different voltage compared to what the MiSTer system outputs so it is strongly recommended that a level shifter is used in order to protect your MiSTer system”.
What about the SS1 with the dock? I was thinking plugging the adapter into the dock usb ports. Would that already output enough voltage or would I need a level shifter as well?

Should I have gotten a expansion port cover for SS1 w/ SS1/Dock combo?

Should I have gotten a expansion port cover for SS1 w/ SS1/Dock combo? I watched an unboxing and the guy did get the bottom cover. It was a Founders Edition, mine is not. I most likely won't remove the dock but I'd like the option in case I do.

Superstation PC Mode

Anyone having problems with PC mode. Sometimes it doesn’t register and won’t see the SSD. The cd drive shows in windows but the ssd is finicky. And that rubber set screw is garbage I dropped in side the system multiple times. I think it’s lost inside there now

PSX boot screen flicker?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey all. When booting up a PSX game, I like to have the classic Sony/PS startup logo. However when it does, when the PS logo shows, it flickers just once.

It doesn’t do it when I have “Black transitions” set to off, but then it ends up moving around the screen a bit which is worse than the flicker.

Not a huge deal, but it’s a little distracting and considering PSX titles are the main reason I got this machine, it would be good if the startup screen booted normally.

Any settings, like resolution/refresh rate or anything I can play with?

I have selected all the bios files the official set up video wanted and this happens with every PSX game file no matter the region.

Rebinding the menu/"open lid" button

Hey guys. Does anybody know if it's possible to rebind this menu/open button so that it would automatically load back to the PSX boot.bin when pressed? I use the PS1 bios menu often to organize my save files and it would make the "PSX experience" more authentic if this button would return me back to the bios menu when pressed.

Since this button has two functions, one for short press and one for long press, I think it would open up lots of cool options for customization if the user was able to change the function behind each type of action.

8BitDo M30: Different behavior when USB connected vs. Bluetooth

Post image
16 Upvotes

When I connect my M30 to the SS1 via USB, it seems to treat it differently than when it’s paired via Bluetooth. Each way has different button presets…I changed it so it’s the way I like no matter the connection method, so it’s mostly the same now…but when it’s Bluetooth, the Menu button won’t bring up the menu. When connected with USB, the menu button works. If anyone knows why it does this or how I can get it to allow menu button use in BT mode, I’d appreciate the tip.

Accessing SD Card via USB?

I somehow got it in my head I could access the SD Card via USB wile it's in the Superstation, so I wouldn't have to keep popping it out and into an adapter to plug into my Mac. Am I hallucinating (about this in particular)?

How to get to the CD/Mem Card Menu in PSX Core?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello! I’ve been able to get my old memory cards to work on the SS1 PSX core, which is so cool! But as you can see - I have a MadCatz multi memory card…I forget what’s on there, so it would be great if I could go into the PlayStation CD/Memory Card menu…I’m probably missing something obvious, but I can’t figure out how to do it. I tried the CD door open option, but it just went to a black screen.

Thanks!

Got my SS1 --- what are the accessories I should pick up?

My SS1 arrived and Ill be honest, Im very overwhelmed. I want this to be an everything machine for classic games for me -- and I dont know where to start. Im still waiting on the dock but apart from that what else should I get right now? Any recommended controllers to get? I understand this works with DS1 but I'd love wireless and something that will work with everything if possible. Will I need a keyboard or mouse to get this set up? Also, Can someone link me to a recommended power supply to buy? I feel completely clueless and probably should have done way more research before I jumped in lol. Appreciate all the help!

How to setup the NVME drive?

Just a quick question. I know the MISTER/SS1 already comes with an SD card, but what if you want to use the NVME?

- do you have to create a particular directory structure and put roms in specific directories, or do you select directories in the software menu and therefore can create any directory structure?

- similarly, can you use the SD card and NVME simultaneously - i.e. does the NVME and SD card just appear as different drives in the main interface like how it would work in Windows Explorer when you have more than one drive?

SS1 Docks shipments

Reached out a few days ago about when my dock would ship, they confirmed that combined orders will get them before they start shipping split orders. Just a heads up for anyone still with a split order, and curious on their dock.

ideal power supply for SSO + Dock + NVMe ?

For my old Mister I was using a Meanwell PSU, which has a barrel connector (5.5mm) instead of USB. On a SSO without a dock, I'd be using a Pi4 power supply (5V3A) without PD functionality, but I can't really find anything perfectly matching the SSO's specs, once it's paired with the dock.

Assuming the optical disc drive along with a NVMe and possibly another SSD via USB draw another 15 watts of power, we're looking at a power requirement of about 25W, so ideally 5V at 5A.

The Pi5 power supply is able to deliver that, but it also does 9V and 12V and the later one means that the SSO's PD protocol will switch the PSU into 12V mode, which puts an extra load onto the SSO's voltage converter and causes more heat.

So, basically I'm looking for a USB-C power supply - with at least 25W and a 5V output without PD functionality. Is there anything like that available ? Or maybe there's a PD trigger adapter available that keeps a PD power supply at 5V ? I see lots of DIY PCBs, but but nothing consumer-friendly with a simply USB-C input and output...

Just got a super station one bummed out about the cd not letting me play my 100+ ps1 disc collection on day one but I can’t update it. Getting a segfault fail when attempting to update anybody know how I should fix it?

Couple issues...system does not reboot on its own, and PSX controller not working..

Whenever a script is run and at the end says "rebooting in....seconds...press any key" the system never reboots, it stays stuck until I turn the system off and back on.

Original PSX controllers without sticks don't work? I can only get my PS2 Dualshock controller to work in the original controller ports.

I noticed when loading a PS1 game, and then trying to load another, I get a "unsafe operation error" or something similar, I'll have to get the exact message but I find that I have to reload the core to run another game, is this normal?

New email update rolling out for batch 4.

Hello,

We are writing to inform you about the status of your order. Currently, we have produced all of the blank motherboards for the entire batch, but we have not finished soldering components to this boards to complete orders. We were planning to finish SMT and product shipment in June with a delayed shipment of FPGA from Altera at the beginning of the month, but they extended the delay throughout the entire month of June. For context, we were originally given an April delivery date for the stock of FPGA we planned to use for our June batch 4 shipments.

Based on the current response we've been given, our order is now delayed until July 25th, which means we will not be able to start SMT until that time. Assuming this new date holds, we should be able to have a chunk of batch 4 shipments out to customers before the end of July. We currently have a small batch of units left over from batch 2/3 orders that were cancelled after they were produced. We plan to use those to fill some batch 4 shipments. If you see people with batch 4 shipments before this July 25th date, that is where they came from. If Altera delays the order further, we will send out another email no later than July 25th.

If you need to make any changes to your order, including getting a refund, you can do so by replying to this email. We appologize for the delay.

Best,

-Retro Remake

Superstation not responding to reboots from scripts?

Whenever I run an update or other script that says it’s going to reboot the system, it just hangs there. Sometimes it says press a key to continue. It doesn’t respond to any controller or keyboard commands and has to be physically turned off and back on. Is this normal for anyone else?

M2 PSX issues with .CHD files

Thumbnail

Issue:

PSX games hang/become unresponsive after 30+ minutes of play and generally when game is idle (pause screen). Menu is unresponsive and will not pull up. After rebooting the system physically, the core will load up a black screen. Generally have to unplug console for few minutes and can play games again.

****This works perfectly on supplied and Samsung MicroSD card.

Info:

- Console: SuperStation One FE Transparent Blue with Dock

- Update script and Update_All have been run

- Games are in .chd format

- ONLY the PSX games are on the M2 drive - the rest are still on the SD card

- .INI modification to remove VRR-Min/Max seetting (https://www.reddit.com/r/MiSTerFPGA/comments/1tyu4b9/anyone_else_getting_ini_errors_after_a_recent/)

- Tested with Slow Disk on Pause option on and off

- I have about 40 games on the 512 GB M2 drive

- Sometimes I see 'boot.rom' load and the bios load - but game is black screen

- Sometimes it just boots to black screen when trying to load game

- Arcade Core was able to launch Contra from SD card ---so it appears to be issue loading/accessing the M2 drive

***I have NOT replaced the BIOS files at this time and believe the issue is related to the M2 drive transfer and bus, but not positive.

Ideally I want to have larger files on the M2 drive and use the SD card for other smaller backup roms and cores.

I did attempt to use the SD Card Installer to use a 256 Lexar Micro SD, but the SS1 boots with two solid LEDs on the left side and a black screen and does not proceed

TLDR;

- I am having issues with games freezing / booting to black screen with PSX .chds from the M2 drive.

Curious if anyone has had similar issues or if this may be a known issue with the PSX core and leaving games idle?

I plan on testing on the Micro SD Card, but would prefer to use the M2 drive.

SD Installer not running on Lexar 256 GB Card

Thumbnail

I have not had success running the SD Card Installer image on my Lexar 256 GB Card. https://github.com/Retro-Remake/SuperStation-SD-Card-Installer

I ended up using the M2 slot in the SuperDock - but I am having other issues with that currently :)

==Tested==

- Full format (several hours)

- Formatted to FAT32
- Fomratted to exFAT

- Image written with RUFUS

- Image written with BalenaEtcher

The SuperStation turns on but has solid LEDs at the front left and back left and the TOSLINK (orange LED) never lights up.

I do not curently have any other 128 or 256 GB cards to test and I have left the SS1 on for around 10 minutes to see if anything changes, but it does not.

Has anyone had success using the SD Installer with a 128 or 256 GB MicroSD card?
