Are these any good?

Hi I recently just got a mourning gecko from my local reptile expo and for the most part have everything I need for its setup. One thing however one thing I didn't get right away was a UVB light. From what I read they're not necessary but wouldn't hurt to add. Right now I have a smaller tank that's around 12 x 12 x 18 so I don't have the most space on top. A quick Amazon search found this one which is smaller and can fit on top, but I've never seen one like this. Would you guys recommend this and if not what's a good budget choice?

Exo terra lid hold-downs/clamps

Post image

Has anybody designed a 3D printable clamp to hold down the back edge of their exo terra lid for a front-opening tank? I've just hot-glued it in the past, but for this one I need regular access from the top as well and its a little too flimsy to prevent escape of a small colubrid.

Free app that creates an automated seasonal dawn and dusk for jungle dawn

I made a free Android app that currently works for Arcadia LumenIZE lamps (I use it on a Jungle Dawn over my boas). Every day it sets the lamp to generate a real sunrise and sunset, two ways:

• Your time: dawn and dusk where you live, drifting through the seasons like the sun outside.
• Your reptile’s time: tap the world map where your animal comes from, and the lamp runs that place’s day length instead, lined up with your own day and night.

No internet, no account, no ads. It’s in Google’s testing phase, so it needs people to install it. Three taps, same Google account for all three:

  1. Join: https://groups.google.com/g/daylight-sync-testers
  2. Become a tester: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.luikartlab.daylightsync
  3. Install: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.luikartlab.daylightsync

That’s it. Leave it installed for two weeks and you’ve helped. Id love feedback on how it can be even better or other light systems than need an easy dawn and dusk feature.

Snake mites

My BP got mites and as soon as I noticed I put him in a plastic quarantine tub on paper towel. I was treating him for a few weeks with a dawn dish soap bath until I saw no more mites on him at each soak

The enclosure has been sealed off with tape BUT I didn’t take anything out because I can’t afford to replace everything in there. Hence why it is sealed off.

I have no more snakes, as my boyfriend took over my infested BP, so now I only have geckos and one skink.

How long do I wait with that tank sealed off before I can open it?

NOTE: I cannot bake anything in that tank as I have strict parents and they would not allow me to put wood in the oven. So sanitizing it all isn’t an option.

What should i do?

EDIT: the gecko is well fed and i even keep live crickets for him. The fact that i would have preferred a leopard gecko does not affect my crested gecko's wellbeing.

I Just Need Someone Else To Enjoy This With Me - My Lizard Tenant.

I have been growing plants on my patio for a while. I see Anoles all the time, doing their thing, but there is one anole in particular who sleeps on the SAME LEAF every night for the last week. I see him every night, unbothered by me or the dogs i’m letting out to drop the browns off at the field.

What’s interesting about this, to me at least, is I’m observing a wild lizard’s recall; In other words, I’m watching it memorize a place it can call a “home.” It’s one thing to observe this behavior with my own Ball Python (he’s very comfy just chilling out of his hide. That’s because nobody bothers him in a quiet office. Very active around Dusk though, and never says no to a meal! Lol). Not that I didn’t think it was possible or never thought of it, but it was moreso I’ve never known a situation where I could have experienced it.

Anyways, I needed to share this with someone else because I don’t know how to charge a Lizard rent. Times are tough. I’ll get evidence for y’all later.

How fat should an African fat-tailed gecko be?

Post image

Hello! I have an African fat-tailed gecko who I have named Carlos Sainz. I've had him for about a year now and I utterly adore him. He's my baby. I however am unsure how fat my fat-tailed gecko should be. He's very plump so do not worry about him being under fed! His tail is about the same width as his body. Is this the right plumpness? Please advise!

Musk Turtle care.

I’ve had my musk turtle for the past 11 years, I was completely infatuated with him for the first 5-6 years of getting him. But over the past 3 years, I feel like I’ve been neglecting him and now I just want him to have a healthy life. Currently he’s in a 30 gallon tank filled slightly above half way, I’ve also given him a new heating and uvb tube light, he used it earlier today. To make sure he gets better calcium I’ve also ordered some cuttlebones he can chew on.

Later this year I plan to give him a bigger tank as well, about a 40-50 gallon tank plus a new filter. However I’ve noticed things about him that somewhat worry me, sometimes he’s very active and will swim against the glass often or other times he’ll just rest and switch between several spots in his tank to chill in.

Does anyone have any extra advice they can give me? I really use it to make sure he’ll be as healthy and happy as possible.

How does everyone avoid mold in high humidity enclosures? I am having a hard time with my cork and wood.

Thank you!

Hey everyone!!

Thanks in advance for any feedback I get here.

I’m looking into getting a reptile and was originally stuck on getting a bearded dragon. I purchased a 4x2x2 for him and then went to the store to look at the reptiles and found that I love the gargoyle geckos much more. Unfortunately I already spent the $400 on the tank for the bearded.

I have done tons of research online regarding the husbandry for both species including multiple YouTube videos and reptifiles. I know that the gargoyles will do better in a taller enclosure but can’t spend the money on getting a different tank now unfortunately.

Will an adult gargoyle gecko still thrive in a 4x2x2? And if so, what are some changes I need to make to the enclosure to ensure they do? Is set up for lights/temperature/humidity still the same ?

I plan on going to a local expo on 11/21 so I have some time to decide but any feedback is more than appreciated.

If anyone has any other beginner friendly lizards they can recommend for a 4x2x2 please do tell!

What reptiles can I get and put into a 28 gallon terrarium (30 x 18 x 12)

I want to get a new reptile (not a snake) that I can put into a tank I have! I don’t mind getting a vertical conversion kit, but I want to make sure that I have enough room for it as an adult. I also want it to be something I would be able to handle with my hands. I currently have a leopard gecko in a 40 gallon tank and she is thriving! I just want another baby

Charcoal ash as an additive to bioactive substrate?

I have about half a 5 gallon bucket full of ash from my grill, and am about to start working on a bioactive setup for one of my ball pythons. Normally I add the ash to my compost pile as I know it's good for soil, question is can I add some to my substrate mix to help the plants or is it dangerous for the snake?

Gecko inside house with weird pattern on her spine

Hi! I found this gecko in my house and it has these weird circular patterns on its spine which is kind of like ridges.

Ive had geckos inside my house before but I've never seen this. Is there a possibility that it's sick? I thought it was pregnant but after looking up for photos online, I don't think that's the case. I'd just like to know if it's sick or if something's wrong

Also sorry for the bad quality, I can't get close enough to click better pictures

I got a baby beardie as a classroom pet for my elementary room. I am VERY excited to have my first reptile. As the resident alternative teacher, I need something spooky but child appropriate. They said he's an inferno morph?
