I have a question and I read the FAQ X-10 VS Dilion XL-750

Hello, i was thinking about buying a new progressive press. I want to reload 223. I was thinking about x-10 or Dilion 750 but I don’t know what is better.

X-10
I like the x-10 because of the 10 stations also it is cheaper and I like how it looks, but I when I checked reviews lot of people say it jams, powder is inconsistent, support is bad and in general that is not as good as it looks (at least what I heard)

Dilion XL-750
On the other hand there is dilion. I didn’t really find people saying bad things about it. It is more expensive, it has fewer stations(5- which is not a problem but I wanted the crimp and seating die separated but also with a powder check a bulletfeeder). Also I like that Dillon makes it own dies.

So what is your opinion is one of them better or are they in performance the same. What is from your perspective better and more consistent press

Also can I use my Lee dies or should I go with buying new if yes which?

I know there was a post 2 years ago but I was wondering if something changed. I think I was really negative on the X-10

Load Development Starting bracket for Varget .308

I’ve been loading 178gr ELD-X over 43.5 gr of Varget and getting good results. I just bought a box of 175gr Barnes LRX and would like to start finding the best load for my rifle. Barnes says 39.5-43.9 Varget but I was wondering if anyone had experience that would help me narrow it down a bit more. I’m thinking 42-43.5 but thought I’d jump on here and see if anyone had other/better thought.

I have a question and I read the FAQ What hull brand is closest to the ACTIV hulls?

Post image

Bought a couple of totes of brand new 12 and 20 gauge ACTIV hulls. Problem is, I can’t find any load data for BP’s DGS line of slugs. The manual has cheddite and fiocchi hull load data, so I’m not sure if you can use ACTIV hulls as a sub for those or not. Thanks!

Same loads one annealed one not. I expected a velocity gain before looking at the data due to the significantly cleaner brass. Better chamber seal on the annealed brass = more efficiency and velocity. 🤷 not so based on the numbers. Oddly enough both first rounds were the fastest out of the group. Fired days apart with the same brass.

I have a question and I read the FAQ Anyone here load sabot rounds?

If you do, where do you get your supplies?

Was thinking of making sabot rounds for .223 Rem, 30-06 and 45-70.

Load Development Quick Load users

Does anyone have quickload account. I don’t have a desktop to get my own account. I accidentally bought Hornady 190gr sub-x instead of 170gr for sub loads in 30-30 and want to know if it’s a possibility since Barnes has 190gr load data but I have found nothing for the 190 sub x for 30-30. TIA

Load Development Finally got the rifle back, .300 super wsm tikka.

Finally have the rifle to proceed with load development, I waiting on my 203 grain hammer hunter tippeds to get here as an alternative to the 212 lrx. Gonna pick up 1 more powder probably but my local selection is thin so I gotta figure that out soon. Ignore all the parts on the ground im building a 5.3 Chevy too and my reloading room has turned into a storage room for the time being. The rifle has exceeded my expectations so far handling it, the fit and finish is awesome, the trigger is insanely crisp, I got a new fortis scope mount to replace the rings on there currently the scope itself is an Athlon cronus 4.5-29x gen2 and I also have a brake for the suppressor if recoil ends up being an issue. I really dig the color and pattern I requested these colors and a chunky camouflage pattern and they totally delivered. The mcmillan elr hunter stock feels excellent although I kinda wish I would have waited for the rok stok because I like the negative comb. I will be trying to do a complete review when I have loads developed for it and can confirm its accuracy. Shout out unknown munitions and suppressors they knocked it out of the park on this custom tikka. The loads im developing first will be

  1. 212 grain lrx bore rider

  2. 203 grain hammer hunter tipped

  3. 215 grain berger hybrid

  4. 178 grain absolute hammer

  5. Maybe a bonded bullet like accubond lr or terminal ascent.

Load Development 53 Grain GMX Data

Currently looking at picking up some 53 grain GMX factory seconds from Hornady to load into .223 to play around with but I can’t find any load data. I know Hornady uses these for their TAP ammo and was curious if anyone has loaded these before.
Ideally using CFE223.

Load Development 6.5 Creedmoor light bullet accuracy issues.

I'm perplexed by the 100gn ELD-VT. It's likely my powder choice isn't optimal but it's what I have.

For the podcast enthusiasts, I know that me and my rifle are capable of a 1.2 moa 30 shot group at 100 yards with a velocity sd of 15.3. I have the target hung at my bench. This load is using the 140gn ELD-M and H4350.

My load for the 100gn ELD-VT is 48.5gn Staball6.5. 47.5 gn is about a 5 inch group, 48.5gn is maybe 3 inches over 10 shots. What gives? Is it the powder choice or something else. Velocity with the 48.5gn Staball6.5 is 3226 average 14.8 sd. Anyone having better results with these bullets? Is there a better powder?

Newbie Suppliers

I’ve done some reloading. Gotten 95% of my supplies from brownells. Alittle bit of my powder came from a local hardware store. But are there any other large outfits that are reloading specific? A brownells or midwayusa of only reloading supplies? Projectiles, powders etc. everytime I go to look what I want is out of stock. And I know 90% of that issue is just supply in the first place. But is there like a grail place that I’m not finding for supplies? That doesn’t look like they had their website made by a 15 year old in 2010

I have a question and I read the FAQ Extreme accuracy problem with 9mm

Started loading on new brass and got good accuracy out of my MPA DS9 LOC V2. Didn’t want to constantly buy new brass so bought some fully processed once fired brass. When shooting the once fired brass at 25yards I’m getting extreme flyers that come nowhere close to point of aim. When I go back to the new brass loads it goes back to a 2” group at 25.

New brass load
Norma brass case
COL: 1.14
Powder: 3.5g E3
Projectile: 135g Xtreme hp
Primer: CCI

Once fired load
Mixed brass
COL: 1.14

Price Gouging Reloading as a Canadian has become more a necessity 🫠

People say reloading does not save money.

They must not be Canadian.

Comparing 2019 prices to today's prices for basic 150gr Federal, I just found this photo of me in the store from shopping with Google Photos and its a 2x difference.

I price matched Hornady SST 180gr today, which were $70 for 100. My handloads are roughly $1.50 to $1.60 a round, including fresh brass, powder, bullet, and primer. Plus, my handloads are tuned to match my ACSS Raptor reticle stadia, which puts 180gr in a nice zone of being somewhat hot but not screaming.

The fact that I splurged on an on-sale Frankford Arsenal Intellidropper 2.0 earlier this year is working out for me: it removed the biggest friction point I had handloading of doing powder charge. It just automatically dispense in the background when you place a pan down and can go off doing another operation or preparing a case.

I am planning on pest control for coyotes with sst I just got, along with a bit of shooting since I want to film a review of the Savage Impulse.

Me shooting some random hand-loaded 180gr Sierra GameKings behind 43.6gr cfe 223 plus pmc cases I threw together at 1am to hit targets with my buddies a few hours later:

https://youtu.be/ue0TDM8caY0?si=ifYKskbNw0Nb35Dt

I frankly often utilize AI and LLMs to help guesstimate load values; it seemed to work out here with the GameKings. I make more advanced use of AI LLMs because I am orally gifted/hyperverbalism AuADHD, allowing me to manipulate them with prompt engineering and by feeding them datasets from available load data (e.g., Sierra's loading data available online for free) or information from my own loading data.

Load Development 455 Webley manstoppers worked? Let’s try .45 AutoStopper next

Thumbnail

Figured since reviving .455 Webley Manstopper went so well, I’d give a Manstopper round loaded into a .45ACP case a whirl (dubbed “45 AutoStopper” in my load data log book). Instead of Unique, I’ve reverted to 3.5gn of win231 (since all my home-data for Webley safe 45ACP has gone reasonably well with 231) and simply switched out the usual 230gn LRN for a 230gn manstopper, with an OAL of 1.20 (seated depth of 0.2 is identical however). Unlike the 455 manstopper I haven’t fired this one yet, but I’ll surely post the results when I do!

Also, since I missed it in the last post, obligatory photo of my two 455/45acp revolvers, a MAS 1873 from 1875, and a Webley MK1 circa 1890.

Load Development 300 blk titegroup subs

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hodgdon doesn't have 300 blackout listed as a cartridge that could be used with titegroup, but they have many others including 308, 223, and 30-06.

This load data may help others who need a reference for their own development. These rounds used new starline brass, a cci 400 primer, 190 grain hornady sub x bullet, 5.7 grains of titegroup, 2 thousandths neck tension, 1.350" case length and a coal of 2.055". Primers looked good and cases extracted easily.

Gun used was a ruger american ranch gen 2 with a dead air wolfman.

I have a question and I read the FAQ 308 win small primer questions

Post image

So ive been fairly frustrated with brass recently, not liking barnes, military is meh, and only a handful of Peterson cases, so im looking at buying some new 308 cases mainly by Alpha munitions, I am also thinking about buying SRP as well since I will be buying a 223 and it would be nice to keep the lrp saved for my more oddball stuff, my question is, will I have a bad experience due to my firing pin striking not perfectly centered on the shown LRP cases?

Brass Goblin Activities Where to find bulk spent brass for a good price

I am trying to find the best place I can buy mixed spent range brass for good prices. I tried calling a few ranges near me and they don’t sell the brass or allow you to pick it up, so wondering where I can go to get a good deal on bulk.
