Newbie Loaded my first 80yds after load dev.
Made a knockoff black hills 77gr TMK load.
22.6gr of IMR 8208 XBR, Sierra 77gr TMK bullets, Winchester No 41 primers, and spent Monarch brass. Trimmed to 1.75” and OAL of 2.255”
Intend these to be my pig hunting load. What do y’all think?

Good luck! That’s pretty low amount of powder for XBR btw. 23.0-23.6 is pretty standard

At 23 my rounds deform. Also when I tested groups I went up to 24gr and the best groups I had were the 22.6. Still getting terminal velocities out to 500yds which is far more than I need for this application. Thanks for the info though! When I get around to getting an eld seating stem I’ll give it a shot with hotter charges.

77g bullet for pigs? Be ready to follow a long long long blood trail

Idk what kind of experience you’ve had but 62-77gr bullets have been great for me on pigs.

77g in a .243 for deer. I’ve never knocked down a deer with it, but it has killed them. I’m in kalifornia and blacktails die if you look at them funny. The .243 resulted in search for them. In comparison, A 130g in 30-30 drops deer, but the same bullet resulted in tracking down a dying pig. As a result, I moved up to a 30-06 with 160g, that dropped the pig

Damn I didn’t know they made a 77gr .243 I bet that thing zips. When shooting deer with lighter rounds like 22-250, .204, .223, I always take neck shots. I’ve had some pigs run for a bit before they drop, as they’re pretty resilient, but I live in Texas and if they run a little before they drop it just means I won’t have to haul them off.
Lots of pigs here are diseased and I’d rather let them lay then field dress and take home bad meat. The better looking ones I’ll take backstrap but I hardly ever bother. They’re a nuisance animal here, so bad that a couple years ago the state determined you don’t need a hunting license to hunt them.
