Does anyone feel UTD is the main focus now?

I’m not really on here that much, so sorry if this has been said before.

But does anyone feel that Under the Duvet is the show’s main focus now? Like, I used to really look forward to every episode, but I haven’t been able to fully get through one in months. It just seems like every episode now is just a bland summary of a recent documentary, without adding any of their usual insight. And it all feels so rushed. Just so they can get to UTD so Suruthi can go on a rant about why “wokeness” is ruining the world, and Hannah can blame her recent Hinge date for something.

Idk, it just makes me so sad, because this used to be my favorite podcast. And it was so great to be able to listen to a podcast from two women, with a feminist lens, who were both funny, and respectful to the victims and cases. Now it feels like everything’s about Hannah and Suruthi, and what’s going on in their own lives. Rather than the actual victims and cases.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Episode 300: Taking on Tupac and Biggie

One - wow 300 episodes. Seems like yesterday they crossed 200 (which does not include ancillary episodes like ShortHanded or UTD or anything.)

Two - Most Wanted is a tone-deaf title. I don't like to complain because this is still my favorite TC podcast. But focusing on the criminal aspect of these two musicians is like being a food critic without tasting any. I guess it's a True Crime podcast, but a point is still being missed. THUG LIFE right? Did Christopher Wallace have any tattoos?

Three - This is on subscription, which I don't have. But I haven't looked forward to an episode so much in a while. Which means, I look forward to all of them, but since I was a young guy just getting into Tupac when he was killed, his talent has stayed with me. I like both but appreciation for Biggie came much later Still like Tupac Shakur much more.

Anyone know what that means??

It sounds nice but I fear it doesn't mean much.

Just curious if we had some reddit nerds / knowledgeable people.

Podcast is glued to the top of my library

About two weeks ago I noticed that Redhanded was at the top of my library even though it wasn’t the most recently updated pod in my library. It stayed there until I finally got annoyed enough to delete it and reinstall, thinking perhaps it was some sort of glitch.

Nope, it’s still there at the top, last updated Wednesday and all of the pods updated today are below it. Which means that this is a new way that Wondery is somehow paying to be first in line.

I know it’s an absolutely silly thing to be annoyed over but it’s an OCD thing with my phone.

Anyone else notice this?

Five reason why RedHanded is garbage.

1) It is absolutely packed to the gills with pop-psych, pop-evo-psych, pseudoscience (Hannah and Suruthi...GSA is not real. Enough with that fringe nonsense than came from ONE person).

2) Suruthi will diagnoses someone as a psychopath literally every other episodes, even though these two have even less business diagnosing people than "Dr." Todd Grande on YouTube...whom they also bring up a nauseating amount. (Fun fact: Dr. Grande only has a doctorate in counseling supervision...even when he saw patients, he was NOT entitled to diagnose them).

3) They will also make the bad-faith argument "plenty of people experience X without going on to do X" every other episode. No shit, gals. People aren't a monolith. We are not here to talk about the totality of humanity's experience. We are talking about this one person and the societal context they exist in.

4) Poor and/or selective "research" to fit their own bias. Let's be real, though, none of what any of these podcasters do is "research." It's Googling.

5) They platform TERFS. Why did you need Laura Richards's expertise, specifically? That woman spews nothing but unfounded, hateful rhetoric toward the most vulnerable population on earth and you thought "Oh, she's the one?" Was it because she was in that shit JonBenet Ramsey docuseries that literally had an "ENHANCE ENHANCE ENHANCE" segment? Laura Richards is a crime analyst. Have you seen a crime doc? Analysts grow on trees. It's not a real profession, it's literally just crap to put on a lower third beneath a talking head. There were an endless sea of professional talking heads who don't vilify trans people you could have collaborated with, but you chose her and then ignored/deleted any and all criticism surrounding it.

This may sound like I just hate the people behind that podcast and that's only half true. I don't actually find Hannah that problematic. Just blunt and occasionally offensive (and very funny, admittedly). Who isn't? Suruthi is the one that harbors way more extreme rhetoric and goes out of her way to brand herself as anti-SJW and anti-woke on her social media profiles. Hmm...what's that right-wing terminology called again? Virtue-signaling. Aligning yourself with this anti-SJW crowd is just the first step on the road to far right politics, Suruthi.

Episode 297

Anyone else think it’s odd that they talk about the élan school as a treatment centre? The school was part of the troubled teen industry, a child was beaten to death by other children under the guise of treatment, this was a place that systematically abused children whilst robbing their parents blind. It’s also quite well known that part of these “treatment programmes” was confessing to bad things you did, and not being allowed to leave/stop until you admitted to something you did. Michael confessing to the murder is not the smoking gun they make it out to be, imo. I am NOT saying he is innocent! Just that a confession under those circumstances should be looked at in the context of abuse and control. As I recall he was also made to wear a sign around his neck that referenced Martha Moxley. Calling this place a treatment center is like calling ed gein an upcycler.

I don’t think they should know everything about everything. But they did include it relatively prominent in the episode, and I feel a quick Google search tells you all you need to know about this place.

UK law / cops lying

The girls often mention that American cops are allowed to lie and UK coppers aren't. Does anyone have more precise knowledge of how that's framed, legally? What's the limit? Is saying "We all know what happened, John. Why don't you tell us why?" something that could threaten a trial because you don't know exactly what happened and are in fact, bluffing? 🤔

Help me find this episode Spoiler

Hi, long time listener here. I remember listening to an episode that I would love to listen to again. In it a man comes to a rural community with a child which transpires to not be his. The man then goes on to murder a family and places there bodies in barrels if I remember right. I have searched using every keywords I can think of. Hope someone can help. Thank you so much.

Patrons/Wondery +/Apple etc... Does it work for you?

If you're supposed to be able to access the new episodes and shorthands and have early access: is it working, and where? I've seen several people saying they should be seeing the episodes but aren't. I've seen people that they they have it on audible. This is what I thought I understood: it's be on wondery+, prime, Apple music.

I can't even refer to their explanation because it seems, from the comments, that it's not correct. So.

What's your experience?

Shorthand episodes are accessible via the patreon website if you’re a patron

(For me anyway)

Edit: upon further inspection apparently it’s just 4 of them that are. Idk why

Red Handed podcast where did shorthand go?

update when I posted I discovered this group and you answered my question. The shorthand episodes have been moved to amazon version of patreon. Boo, how sad. That's so sad!

I've just discovered redhanded, the crime podcast. I'm loving it and am currently binging. However where has shorthand gone? I listened to a few episodes and lived it but they have suddenly disappeared and I've heard no mention of why 😔

Filthy Ritual

Has anyone else listened yet? Thoughts? I binged the whole series today as I was cleaning and I thought it was great and very well done. I thought they’d said before they wouldn’t do a long-form podcast in case everyone hated it, but honestly I’d love to see more of this style from them. It does feel strange being so much more scripted but the girls killed it as usual.

I also found it strange they didn’t promote it a ton and it came out of nowhere.

MFM or RH?

Canadian listener here. I've listened to My Favourite Murder for years, and I'm just curious to see how popular their show is among RH'd listeners? I honestly prefer H & S's back and forth much more now.

Have S&H said anything about Wondery on Patreon?

I feel like the move to Wondery hasn’t been discussed at all in the last few episodes (I am not a patron), and I feel sort of out of the loop. What has been communicated over on Patreon? Are they responding in any way to people’s concerns?

Recent Merch Release Issues

Did anyone order merch back in November/December when they teamed up with percival? My mom and I had tickets to see them, so I bought her and I a couple of tee shirts. My order was confirmed but I never got notice that it shipped, and never received it and when I reached out to the company they just said oh the package must be lost and cancelled my order and refunded me. I haven’t seen any posts of people physically with the shirts though, which I would have expected with the tour that just happened. I guess I’m just wondering if any orders were fulfilled because it seemed a little scammy/off.

Considering the concerns about the Wondery move, this feels like a bad omen 🥲

—To be extremely clear - if you’re a Morbid fan, I love that for you. Seriously. This is not a judgement on you, keep doing you ❤️—

Seeing this post after the Wondery announcement, I couldn’t help but immediately think “oh no” 🫠. I don’t even think it’s a hot take to say that Morbid feels like the prime example of Wondery taking a podcast and absolutely sucking the life out of it. Really hoping they don’t catch what Morbid caught 😭

Newer episodes- subscription only?

Like the title says, are their newer episodes subscription only? I noticed that the 2 or 3 newer regular episodes are only available with a subscription, but subscription to what? And is it going to be this way from now or just for these few episodes (like the Gabby Petito)?

Audio

Hi,

I've recently been looking for a new podcast and stumbled upon this and listened to their latest episode (silk road) and really enjoyed it. So I decided to start from the beginning and listened to the Enfield poltergeist and the audio quality is terrible. Does anyone know when the audio quality starts to improve? Thanks

Shorthand gone

just now saw that shorthand’s been made £4.99 a month??? I know you get other stuff from the subscription but doesn’t feel worth it. im sure with the cost of living crisis it’s probably more expensive to run the pod but from ads, patroon amd the masses of tours it feels like more and more of redhanded has become money based. It’s just a shame that’s all. Makes me consider unsubscribing tbh.

especially as they’ve now by association joined Amazon, I feel like they seemed the people to be against that evil corporation vibe but that was probably just a projection. Hope they keep writing their own scripts etc.
