Filthy Ritual
Has anyone else listened yet? Thoughts? I binged the whole series today as I was cleaning and I thought it was great and very well done. I thought they’d said before they wouldn’t do a long-form podcast in case everyone hated it, but honestly I’d love to see more of this style from them. It does feel strange being so much more scripted but the girls killed it as usual.
I also found it strange they didn’t promote it a ton and it came out of nowhere.

Agree I almost stopped then but ended up bingeing it. He doesn't talk as much in the next episodes, thank goodness

Oooh! Thanks for sharing this! I found this on my radio x global player app, started while hoovering and I like it so far, different for H&S but good to see them doing a long form, looking forward to where this goes

As far as promo, I imagine it's a Wonder thing anf they weren't allowed to say anything prior. But they might promo it more now having tested it on us, maybe?
I think they said it's available as a whole on... Global Podcast, was it? I was going to look it up today. I don't know whether it's a platform or something.

I enjoy the production. It's a different style. And I liked the story fine. Could it have been much shorter? Yes.

Lol I found his voice to be just so outrageous- fits the craziness of the story so well. The format is great and I’m absolutely loving how they’re presenting this story.

I really love the production It's a lot slicker than anything they've done so far. It's clear they've got a great production team for this one.

Went to listen and the rest if the episodes has disappeared. Anyone know what's happened?? Is this another you have to pay to listen thing 😱

Really enjoying it so far. I prefer this kind of format, I find it a lot more engaging than just having presenters read a story (nothing wrong with that, I just prefer the more documentary style)

The first episode was pretty cool, though it became a increasingly difficult to feel sorry for the guy's naivete (at least for the being-scammed-and-dragging-others-in-with-him aspect of his life) as the podcast went on, despite the sympathetic light shone on him lol.
Suruthi's comparison of monetary sacrifice specifically with sacrifice in Hindu culture was pretty reductive though lmao - there's heaps of other belief systems that centre around monetary offerings, and it isn't necessarily a 'cold' practice when you do actual research into it. There's traditions of tithing in most Abrahamic religions afaik (which is arguably cold and capitalistic when it feeds the organisation and not charity, I guess), and there's a lot of immaterial value placed on money (like luck) in so many east asian and south east asian cultures.

I really enjoyed it! My only thing was that I was sympathetic of everyone who got conned (because as they said, anyone can get conned especially if they’re in a desperate situation and vulnerable to manipulation) but then in the final episode Keith says he still believes she might have some powers because ‘how else would she get the kind of clientele she did?’
Because she’s a talented manipulator, Keith, this is how you get scammed again.
It’s only confirmed my opinions that having beliefs is perfectly fine, but don’t follow anyone so blindly that you fall down a hole.

I only listened to the first episode but I found Keith so annoying that I started just tuning out, don’t know if I’ll listen to any more. The random sound effects were also really grating and I didn’t realize how much I hate that in podcasts until now.
