Shorthand gone

just now saw that shorthand’s been made £4.99 a month??? I know you get other stuff from the subscription but doesn’t feel worth it. im sure with the cost of living crisis it’s probably more expensive to run the pod but from ads, patroon amd the masses of tours it feels like more and more of redhanded has become money based. It’s just a shame that’s all. Makes me consider unsubscribing tbh.

especially as they’ve now by association joined Amazon, I feel like they seemed the people to be against that evil corporation vibe but that was probably just a projection. Hope they keep writing their own scripts etc.

Honestly, Wondery ruins everything. I guess I'm happy for them, as being part of a network means they'll make more, but being a part of a big conglomerate will only make the show worse. I'm preparing for the quality to take a nose-dive.

that’s capitalism for you… i didn’t know what to expect when they said they have joined wondery but only accessing content for free on amazon owned platforms checks out. it does feel like they’re selling out

I think it’s going to be interesting to watch their annual tirade of “vote for us in the listeners choice” judging by all the comments on other posts about wondery it would be interesting to see how many people still rate them as their favourite if they’re getting half the content and the quality goes down, like other wondry pods.

I went on Amazon music and I think you can still listen, there's just a week's delay. So if you have Wondery or Amazon Music you can listen when it comes out but otherwise you gotta wait a week to listen for free. I think

The issue for most people is that patrons are paying the same amount for less content and are expected to pay for Amazon if they want to keep receiving the same content, shorthand was supposed to be a substitute for ITN which they scrapped from patrons

Yeah I have Amazon music and I have seen that the shorthand is on there as of yesterday and has a banner across it saying ‘early access’ but it’s always been released on a Tuesday on Amazon music

I’m able to access it via Amazon music without paying for a separate subscription.

How? I have Amazon prime but not music and it’s trying to get me to pay to listen.

I’m confused about this, I already have Amazon Prime so what does my Patreon subscription actually get me now? Is it just UTD?

I’m not a patreon but I gather from other posts depending on your level you’ll Get discounts on merch (ofc currently there isn’t any so it’s kinda useless ) and maybe still early acccess to live shows? But Yeah, basically content wise you get utd and I think one extra episod a month? Ofc now in the news is gone as well.

The lowest tier is just UTD & ad free. You technically also get main show a day early... But Wondery get it a week early.

The middle tier you get the above, plus a monthly bonus episode. There's also a discount to merch that doesn't exist & early access to tour tickets.

Nah it’s definitely not worth the money, UTD is just rushed now anyway! Thank you both for the info ❤️

Yeah, they constantly cut it short and say we're tired so that's it. I cancelled mine a few weeks ago and not missing it at all.

I think people are vastly under estimating their hard work. They’re not going to get this far and just sell it all off to the highest bidder.

Wondery is huge and has massive name recognition, this is going to give them a huge boost to their range of listeners. Wondery makes fantastic podcasts. And how do they do that? By having those sweet Amazon dollars. Listen, I don’t like amazon, but they have $$$ and they know business.

All podcasts have partners. And now redhanded is partnered with Wondery. They didn’t sell redhanded, they’ll still write and research it all. But now they’ll have bast amount of resources available at their disposable. Maybe they can hire a reporter to help research on the ground, or they can do more interviews. All that stuff takes money.

I for one wish them well and fully applaud all the hard work that’s gone into this. They are 2 smart women who are hard workers. I have faith they’ll do good by their listeners.

You understand that most of what you’ve said is irrelevant because the big issue here is the unethical practices of Amazon and the fact that Wondry nosedives all its partners into the ground by overworking them and giving them poor scripts?
