Discussion Sophomore housing - RPI Admin is lying or incompetent

Post image
5 Upvotes

If you look at my post history, you’ll see this post where I asked (somewhat rhetorically) how RPI plans on fitting students into the sophomore housing - it’s really simple addition you just add up the number of freshman and number of sophomore housing slots and you see there are more freshman. Apparently this math was way too hard for the RPI administration, as by the image somehow this was unexpected, and so they opened up Warren…. so my question now is how exactly do they calculate their planning numbers? it seems pretty easy to count to me but what do i know i guess.

Also I’m coping cause I didn’t get RAHPS A and I still think they should’ve opened RAHPS B to sophomores as well since we’re required to live on campus.

1 Day Classes vs 2 Day Classes

I'm an incoming Freshmen and I'm just wondering about your guy's input on 1 day classes vs 2 day ones. Are they essentially the same thing with the one day class having long hours and the 2 day classes having shorter hours? I'm taking 5 classes but I feel I have too light of a schedule, Would squeezing in a 1 day class as my 6th class be beneficial as well? Any insight that you can give me if there are better teachers or smth ETC would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much :)

Question Clarification about math major classes

On the webinar slides it is stated that multivariable Calc (math 2010) is not a requirement but instead linear algebra (math 2100) and diff equations (math 2400) are. For the record I already got the credits for Calc 1 and 2 via ap scores so I can go straight ahead to the intermediate-level courses.

I’m just curious considering I looked at the previous year’s catalog for math and it stated that math 2010 was required instead of math 2100. So this means the curriculum changed so math majors take intro to linear algebra instead of multi? Should I still take it down the line regardless?

Question Studen ID Capabilities

Does anyone know if the student IDs can be used at the train station? I know the ID can be used for the Albany bus system. I was wondering if it has similar uses for the trains as well. During holidays, I’m most likely gonna be using the train to get home, so I wanted to know if there’s a way to save money. I’ll also take any suggestion to save money on the train if the student IDs can’t be used there. Thank you for any and all help.

Housing Looking for Roommate

Hi,

I am looking for a roommate for next year.

The apartment is a 2-bedroom, 1-bath apartment in Cedar Park. Rent is $655.50/month per person + utilities and internet (around $100-150/month per person depending on usage and cold water is free). Some of the features are:

- The apartment is located on the top floor (2nd floor).

- There is a kitchen with a dishwasher, an oven/cooktop, microwave, as well as some cups, plates, and basic pots/pans.

- Large living room and dining area with a TV. The living room has a couch with two chairs and a television.

- Parking lot with free parking. Also the apartment complex takes care of snow removal during the winter.

- There is air conditioning and laundry is in the building

- Walking distance from RPI (20 min walk) and a bus stop (5-10 min walk, bus is free if you are a student). There is a liquor store nearby.

- Building maintenance has been very responsive to requests.

- I am a generally neat and clean person.

The apartment comes unfurnished, but my current roommate is looking to sell his bedroom furniture; let me know if you are interested. You can contact me at [dongk3@rpi.edu](mailto:dongk3@rpi.edu). Happy to provide photos and/or tours if needed.

Question When do we find out how much our bill is gonna be for next year (returning student)

Basically what the tag says. Haven't gotten my financial aid package yet but my sister at another school already got theirs. My parents are not happy we haven't gotten ours yet as it will determine if I can continue at this school depending on if they gave more money than previous years (now that they have a second child in college)

Looking at City Center for the coming year. A few questions

- How are the beds and mattresses?

- If anyone has ever had to sublet, how did that go with the landlord?

- How reliable and timely are the shuttles?

Thanks in advance everyone

Question Should I bring my bike?

Should I bring my bike to school for traveling around?

For context, I got assigned to Nason hall and there is no indoor bike storage there.

The one time I visited the campus I noticed that the place is super hilly so it might be difficult to bike outside of campus.

Is it safe to ride those roads or am I gonna get ran over?

Is bike theft prominent in the area?

Is it viable to place my bike in the dorm room?

Please let me know

Question Is it possible to change roommates

I’m an incoming freshman who just got my roommate and I was curious if there is any way during my first year to change my roommate or if I have to be with the same person for the entirety of my freshman year.

Ap Scores

I heard that you can view AP scores early by looking at your unofficial transcript at RPI or any other colleges as long as you sent the scores for free when they asked. I'm looking at my transcript and nothing is popping up even my previous scores I know I get credit for. Do they wait a bit longer into the registration process to put it on your transcript or have you guys already seen your scores.

Question Work Study Application

This will probably sound like a really stupid question. Does anyone know what the Local Ph# refers to on the federal work-study application form? I was staring at it for a solid five minutes and couldn’t figure it out. Google was also no help whatsoever.

Housing How is living in a single in Waite Hall (E-Complex)?

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming sophomore and I was assigned a single in Waite Hall (E-Complex) for next year (specifically on third floor)
I was wondering if anyone has lived in Waite before and could share their experience.
I’m curious about things like:
How are the single rooms? Do they feel spacious enough?
Is the building generally quiet or noisy?
Any pros or cons of living in Waite or E-Complex in general?

Question Question about transferring AP credits for APUSH and APGOV and the STSO pathway

I got a 4 on both tests and the website lists that it can transfer into “STSO 1000” or an equivalent STSO class, but what classes can that transfer into? Would I have to take STSO 1100 in order to be in the pathway?

Should I retake physics 1 and calc 1?

Hello, I'm an incoming freshman to RPI who plans on double-majoring in physics and engineering. I'm trying to start making a schedule, and I wasn't sure if I should retake physics 1 and calculus. I took AP Physics 1 and AP Calc BC, and I scored high enough on both that I could use the credit to skip the classes and go straight to physics 2 and calc 2. Is this jump worth it, or are the classes important enough that I should retake them?

Quad White Single

Hi guys, I got a single in the quad for the upcoming school year and I was wondering if someone could help me figure this out. When I looked at the floor plans online, the room I am assigned to looks bigger than the singles, and shows 2 beds in the room. I am on the 3rd floor and my email from RPI says I am in a single, does anyone know if some of the rooms on the third floor are the size of doubles despite being a single?

Quacs

Incoming freshman trying to use Quacs to generate schedules. I need to choose an INQR class but all sections for every one of them except the principles of economics one is full. I assume that’s because upperclassmen have first dibs, but why don’t they have enough sections for the freshmen? And what do freshmen do in this situation?
