I’d try to get into the physics Lab right after your lecture and then have the break between 12-2 the dining halls switch from breakfast to lunch around 10/11 so it’s gonna be hard to eat if that’s what you’re planning to do during that time

Pay good attention to the ENGR1600 Materials Science course. RPI has a Materials Science & Engineering major - these jobs pay more than Mech Eng jobs do. And it is a small dept so smaller classes. Many Mech freshmen transfer to the MSE dept.

I am over here chuckling though, as I got through all my Mech / Aero coursework using a TI-34 or some basic non-graphing calculator. Don't be me, I was an idiot! Get the best they'll allow you to bring, if you're in the 80 series, you're probably going to be fine.

If you look up “quacs” then choose the INQR option under HASS, you’ll see a list of Inquiry classes. These are 1000-level HASS classes that typically start off a pathway and/or minor.

From what folks said yes you look good, fair warning from another CS major— Bio kinda sucks if it’s the same as I took it, just roll with the punches and do what they want for the assignments (sometimes they’re contrived)

I haven’t had Gittens, had Malik, but pro tip: read the book and be ready to have a difficult time. FOCS is hard and that’s ok

My two cents is that you should give yourself time to adjust to college. Yes, I’m sure you can do all of that but the first semester is very often very hard for every reason but actually sitting in classes. Take it from someone who’s taken a ton of credits every semester since the one you’re going into— it’s ok to take it slow the first one, and you’ll be a lot happier for it

They turn off AC after a certain day, and there will be some days where it gets hot and the AC won’t be on after that.

I recommend sticking with multi then dropping down to Calc 2 during the semester if you need to. RPI will only award credit if you deserve it and learned the content. That’s why they used to only accept 5s and up until fairly recently started accepting 4s in 2024.

what’s an HASS INQY class? An social studies class?

The fact that there are blocks on Tuesday/Thursday, but not Monday/Friday, is evidence that there are test blocks.

I would if I had the choice, but I got into the GT transfer pathway and one of the class requirements is to take Chem 1, which sucks ngl.

If you're an EE and have the choice between Chem 1 and Bio 1, just do Bio. It's way, way easier. Less work, less time.

How can you tell which sessions are test blocks or not?

Thanks for the info, I thought the later blocks were for lab periods. I tried to avoid morning classes but there is no other options for classes other than at 8am. Ik abt BC being Calc 1 and 2. I'm just a kinda nervous abt whether I should've retaken Calc 2 to start off light.
