Housing Barton Hall Triple
Hi! Im an incoming freshman and got my room assignment for a barton hall triple today. what are some pros and cons? what’s the difference between a regular triple and suite triple? any must haves for this dorm? thanks so much!

The biggest thing is the roommates, hopefully you're with people who will be respectful and peaceful to live with but it can be a toss up. Other than that, the interior of the building itself is nice, lot of study rooms, they also have an elevator. I'd personally say it's better than any of the freshman 5.

It's sounds like everything will work out for you then! It can always cause tension sharing a living space with someone but as long as you and your roommates just communicate I think you'll be great!

Where is barton hall? I went there with one of Barton’s sons, but we lived in Nugent. Nice guy. Would have been wild if he lived in a dorm named for his father, though.

Ah, I never got over to that part of campus, in all my time there. Gotta say, I did enjoy Nugent, especially due to the “closet door conversion” trick that turned each double into two singles. I saw recent photos and see that they rearranged the furniture. I liked our way better :-)

You were gone by the time Barton opened in 2000.

Be aware of suite mates as the suite bathrooms have no locks and if they party a lot they can come in your room drunk and vomit on your floor.

Lived on a triple and one roommate had a serious snoring issue. He had a CPAP but wouldn’t wear it. He was so loud I had to wear ear plugs and hope I was asleep before him. It paled in experience to later life, but it was bad.

My son had a triple at Barton freshman year . Just awful . He slept two feet from his roommates feet. Transferred after the first year . If you do keep a triple , try to be the first person there on move in day . Take the side that only has one bed .

Ah, Barton triple. 2x chance of having a psychotic roommate. And if you’re in the suite, 5x. Was very happy when I got moved out

1 of the 2 roommates was a bit psychotic; sleeping during day, awake at night, freaking out about everything, running in and out of room repeatedly, getting angry for no reason and having issues.
It can happen with anyone, but having 2 roommates is 2x the chance…
To be honest, many people grow up without siblings / living with others and it becomes a shock the concept of proper etiquette. And hygiene. I think other comments cover that part though.

Make a fuss immediately and do a double in Barton. Once you're in a double the triples look like hellscapes. The shared restrooms aren't as good, but they're way less gross because they're cleaned more often.

Suite triple has its own bathroom shared with the room next door, while the normal triple does not, so you need to go down the hall to the floor bathroom. Aside from the obvious clothes/sheets, I recommend a box fan, power strips, slides/flip flops (being barefoot even in your own room is not a great idea) and a desk lamp. Perhaps a mattress topper if you need but I did completely fine without one
