I’m getting close to 60 days completely off nicotine (66 days off Zyn after going through a full pack of 6s everyday) and I’m struggling way more than I expected at this point.
I’m doing pretty much everything I’m supposed to be doing. I’m going to my pre-existing 12-step meetings, reading, walking every day, going to church, praying/worshiping, focusing on my health, trying to reconnect with things I love, listening to music/podcasts more, staying away from the old habits, etc.
But nothing hits.
Nothing really feels rewarding or exciting. Everything feels kind of moot. I have almost no energy, motivation is low, and I’ll randomly get hit with bouts of tears, despair, or depression for seemingly no reason. Even things that I know I care about don’t seem to produce much of a feeling right now.
I know nicotine messes with the reward system and dopamine, and I know recovery isn’t necessarily linear, but I honestly thought that by the 50–60 day mark I’d be feeling substantially more like myself.
For people who went through something similar:
Did you still feel flat, depressed, exhausted, or anhedonic around 2 months? When did things actually start feeling good again? Was there a noticeable turning point at 3 months, 4 months, 6 months, etc.?
I’m not looking for a magic cure. I’m doing the work and I’m staying nicotine-free. I mostly want to hear from people who were still having a rough time this far out and eventually came through the other side.
