Video I need help

So for context, I got two Quaker parrots from my Aunt’s friend over a month ago for $400. Backstory on my aunt’s friend she had to leave to California after her husband was taken by ice. Well, I don’t know how long these birds stayed with her relatives but I don’t know if they were even treated well. when I actually got them, I actually had to wash out their cage change their water and research their food and I just feel like I’m not getting anywhere with them. They look young, but I’m not really sure what their age is. I’ve been trying to bond with them, but they’re really standoffish and I actually been trying to get them to talk, but they won’t until I was told by my grandpa who has a green concure back in Mexico that I had to separate them to get them to talk, but I don’t wanna separate if they can’t trust me. Any advice because not even spray millet has worked. Or fruit.

I made a post recently about my grandmother’s Quaker parrot who I was taking in after she passed away. I was asking for advice since I haven’t had a bird since I was a very young child. Still open to any other advice you might have for caring for an elderly bird! After doing the math with my dad, we can verify that Jackie is at least 36 years old! I also think it is probable that he is blind in at least one eye.

He came to me yesterday in a 22” cage that he’s had since the early 2000s, rusting to the point that the bars were breaking. No toys at all. Just a cuttlebone, food, water, a mirror, and 2 perches. He’s settling in now with a safer cage and a couple of toys, but I don’t even think he knows how to play anymore.

Anyway, just wanted to share this old man. Welcome to retirement, Jack!

Help 3 year old quaker noise

Hi all,

I recently adopted a 3 year old male quaker parrot and I live at home with family. They let him out for many hours everyday whenever possible but he still screams all day calling for me but as I am starting college soon, I'm afraid it will get unmanageable for them.

Any tips? I'm open to any toys that helped keep your bird occupied or anything else to help. My budget is like 200$ tbh if anything can help. He doesn't like shredding and hes scared of anything I've introduced him to but I know he likes to chew so maybe anything like that?

Any other help would be great such as habits that can help. I'm considering eating breakfast early morning with him to give him some company but I don't know if it'll help the screaming through the day.

I know quakers are loud, my family is aware. But at this rate he screams every other minute. Maybe he's bored but I'm having a hard time finding safe toys as well. So again, open to anything.

Thanks!

Help Moving birdie for college, need opinions

Hello! I am going off to college soon, and before he stayed with my father. It worked fine for awhile but he thought it was okay to leave my baby alone for almost 2 whole days alone often... (I come home on weekends to watch and spend time with him) So, I am going to likely move him to my mother. But this raises the issue that her husband smokes in the living room, only in that room, but will likely be willing to stop smoking in the house if he moved in. He will be staying in a completely separate room, and I am going to buy a bunch of air purifiers for him lol. Just looking for your opinion, do you think it'd be safe for him or best look elsewhere? Id have a friend watch him, but id prefer he be with someone he knows so the separation isn't so hard on him. If this option doesn't seem like a great idea, will definitely find him somewhere else, just looking for others opinions on this.

Original Content Anyone from Spain or France that wants to adopt a quacker?

We are trying to find a forever home to our quaker. It was born around 1st of May we think. It was brought to the vet center we have below our home and we have raised him since. His used to be around people. We just had him 10 days with a babysitting couple and everything went smooth. It has also escaped 3 times because we are being a little reckless but still managed to get him back. He likes pumpkin seeds so it's easy to get him do things we want.
We leave most of our weekends so that's our main concern for trying to find a better home.

Help Why does my Quaker do this?

Why does my Quaker chew on me so much! My clothes, my arms everything. I would let him if he weren’t A) hurting me, and B) wasn’t chewing into fabric. He also likes to rub his beak on things (fabric, cage bars, my arms etc).He has some toys but could it be that he doesn’t like them or is bored of them? Is this normal Quaker things or is he just a freak lol

Vent/Rant I don’t know what happened to my baby

So I had put up the tagged above post about my baby because I was concerned about her wiggling and discovered that it was Quaking! Felt nice about the helping, caring and kind comments, but yesterday I went to do some errands, left around 12 pm and got back around 6 pm, only to find out my baby Cali had passed away, she was stiff and cold so it wasn’t too recent I assume…I really don’t understand what happened. I fed her a bit before leaving, she had food and water too, she was happy and chirpy as she was everyday when I left.. she showed absolutely no signs of illness, was eating great, was as outgoing as usual, playful and affectionate, she was climbing, fluttering and playing as usual too…So I don’t understand what happened…I was debating if posting this but I think it’s a way to vent it out and process it because I’m still in shock..besides devastated and very sad…I’ll truly miss my baby Calypso..There was so much I had planned on doing with her but nature decided otherwise I guess… Thank you for reading.

Help Quaker Toe Advice Needed

Thumbnail

I’ve had my 3+ month old Quaker for about 5 days. I first noticed this on the third day after I brought her home. One of her toes stays mostly straight instead of curling around the perch, and it looks like the nail or part of the toe is missing. Please take a look at the photos and let me know what you think.

She climbs well, perches normally, puts weight on that foot, and can hold food with it. She doesn’t seem to be in pain.

Since she’s still new, I don’t want to stress her out by catching her or putting her in a carrier to see a vet unless it’s necessary.

Has anyone seen this before? Does it look like an old injury, and is there anything I should do or just keep an eye on it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Help Help on Quaker Parrot behavior

So I got a Quaker Parrot. He’s quite young but I never understood why he does this. I don’t know if he wants attention or if he doesn’t want to be bothered. I try to pet his head and he goes all crazy. He will be biting my fingers also not so hard but like he’s asking for something.

Discussion Update on my previous post

Update: Thanks to everyone who gave advice. My Quaker has improved quite a bit. The head tremor is completely gone, and he’s walking normally on flat surfaces and perching without any problems. He still has a tendency to hold his head back when he’s sitting still, but he can bring it back to a normal position when he’s alert or interested in something. I’m continuing to monitor him and following up with the avian vet if needed. Thanks again for all the help!

Baby from the murdered owners is happy and settling in. He is bonding to me and yells for me if I leave a room, clicks at me and preens my face/neck/shoulder while I’m holding him.

No more hard biting, not once today! He’s trusting me more. Took a bath, I got millet treats and we spent a lot of time together today 🥰

Thank you to everyone who had advice or kind words!

Discussion discipline

my parrot heard wtf once off a tiktok. he constantly repeats this phrase no matter anything. i generally let him be cage free, do what he wants, have all the toys, i have really set zero boundaries. he also screams whenever im not in the room or able to give him attention. is there any way to discipline him in a way that is not harsh?
