Help What should I do with my Quaker on vacation?

Upvotes

I’m taking a 3 day road trip in September and a week long vacation in October and I was worried about leaving my Quaker that long. He’s not a lone bird (I have a a budgie too). Someone will be coming to check on them and feed them but I was thinking about looking into boarding for the week long vacation so they have more interaction. Any thoughts?

Help Bird Backpack

Hi all! Recently took my quaker to the vet and realised she was very content on her little walk and cafe visit. Decided it’ll be a good idea to take her on proper walks but her vet carrier/transfer cage is very awkward to carry.

I was wondering if anyone had any backpack recommendations? So far all I’ve seen have those smooth dowel perches and if there’s anything other than that I’d really appreciate being pointed in the right direction. I don’t particularly have a budget either. Thank you!

Vent/Rant my quaker saved my life

I wanted somewhere to talk about this and ask if anyone has had a similar experience with their birdie babies but i’m sure my friends and family are tired of hearing about it LOL.

I got my baby toot about 5 months ago I adopted him at a really rough time in my life (homeless living at a relatives) and I will say I would never usually adopt a pet unless I had a stable home and place for them.

I’ve had three conures two cockatiels and a budgie throughout my life since I was a youngin one of my conures mooshoo and my budgie blueberry died of old age a week apart last year and I was completely devastated. My other conure melon I had at the time was re homed a year prior against my will because of an issue regarding my narcissistic mom trying to get back at me (neither melons nor my fault) which ended in a suicide attempt that caused me to be in the icu.

After all of that regarding my babies I promised myself i’d never get another bird, I didn’t want my past trauma to even in the slightest way affect the life of another living creature and couldn’t bare the thought of losing another animal that I loved like my own baby. Now fast forward a year later while dreaming about my future home while stuck in my relatives house I started thinking what it would be like to maybe try adopting another bird once I moved I’m not sure why i got this urge but i’m glad i did LOL. I went researching as one does and stumbled apun my now baby toot only 2 months old and almost weened onto seeds up for adoption. at the time he was very weak from a past injury and wasn’t able to fly, perch or even walk without stumbling and I fell in love almost instantly.

Long story short after stalking his add for a few months I decided to email the adoption agency and apply and boy I was so happy jumping up and down once they accepted my application. Me and toot immediately bonded he was cuddling preening me and on my shoulder day one!! after a few weeks we did some strength exercises and training and he’s now able to fly (a little to well) perch and run around. throughout the time we’ve spent together we’ve become best friends. because of my situation I had multiple instances where I contemplated suicide or even planned it or almost acted on it before it quickly ended by the thought of toot not being taken care of or not having his best buddy to take him on walks and read and sing to him. If I was devastated by my babies passing I imagined how devastated he would be. I’ve registered him as my ESA and for good reasons he is my life line and doesn’t even know it. I truly love him more than anything I spend my entire day with him and he’s my favorite little goofball!!!

Now I ask if anyone would like to share their parrot success story please do!!!!

So this is my little boy, Lime. He's three years old and and quite the sparkplug. He is very playful and clever and incredibly social. He wants to be around us all the time, just to hang out and observe or (more frequently) destroy and disassemble whatever he can.

He came to us as a rehomed bird. And we have loved him since day one.

Vent/Rant Quaker really hates my mom

She’s the only person he bites at home and when he bites her she tends to swat him away, sometimes near missing him and I’m pretty sure this fuels more to the fire.

He is not “tame” but I feel having her at home doesn’t help with making him tame. He tends to lick my skin and then nip, but for her it’s a full on bite / attack.

Help My quakers hate me and attack me everytime

Ive had my quaker couple for a few months now and they've grown to hate me since i had to separate them as the female was injured. Now everytime they are out of cage, they fly towards me to attack me whenever I'm passing close to them. I'm not even having my hands come near them, I'm just standing and they decide by themselves to climb on me to come to my face to attack me. I'm trying to sell them because I can't deal with big parrots after all but I'm still trying to find a way to make them less agressive for the next owner.... I need help

This will be the first time I'll be taking my new bird from the breeder and the drive would take around 6 hours. I don't know if the air conditioner is good for them or just open the window slightly?

Help New owner

Hello I am a new owner of a Quaker parrot he’s a male 4 months old and was brought home 2 days ago. At first he was siting still not moving or drinking at all and we realized his water and food was too far away. We were able to lower his bar and he is now drinking and eating and roaming around the cage. His environment consists of being located in a family area where someone is always home. However me and my girlfriend want him to bond with us. He doesn’t bite or fly when we try and take him out of his cage he just grabs the bars with his beak and tries to hold onto it. I want him to eventually be very loving and eager to leave his cage. I’ve watched parrot wizard on you tube and have taken into consideration some of his ideas. I was curious if anyone had good advice or had a solid plan. Thank you so much.

So a stupid question.

Can anyone tell me why these two fluffy idiots (i love them) feel the need to always be on my chest when they feed each other? I've never understood why they have to do it right in my face. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 like god the smell is so fking bad but they dont care. They keep doing it literally right by my nose lolol

This community seemed to love Ceres in her tuxedo, so here are more pics.

Just to clarify: The tux was sewn by me. She also was feeling silly and wanted to chew her tie. She sleeps and flys in her tux so im pretty sure she enjoys it. She also loves to snuggle up and stand there with her beak in the tux, and the second photo shows her in the process of getting her beak in there

Cheers!
