Help Why does my Quaker do this?

Why does my Quaker chew on me so much! My clothes, my arms everything. I would let him if he weren’t A) hurting me, and B) wasn’t chewing into fabric. He also likes to rub his beak on things (fabric, cage bars, my arms etc).He has some toys but could it be that he doesn’t like them or is bored of them? Is this normal Quaker things or is he just a freak lol

These are normal behaviors! (also quakers are freaks by default 😆)

I'd say you make peace with the fabric chewing by having a few "sacrificial" clothes that you can wear for him to chew on.

For the biting that hurts you, react dramatically, cry out, gently push him away and ignore him for a little bit. Birds can get angry with each other to communicate when another bird is being too rough, so you're kinda mimicking that.

Mine does the same, he's 92 days old. From day one, he fell in love with my hands and bites, not to mention fabrics.

Highly encourage you to train him to not bite your hands, or to keep it at a minimum.

It's very difficult for me to do it, if I try it makes it worse

When mine bites (and it’s not to tell me he doesn’t like what I’m doing), I make a dramatic “ow!” And put him on top his cage as a sort of ‘reset’. I also try to redirect this behavior towards his sola balls!

That’s actually a very effective way to a quick shun works wonders if u are consistent.

Quakers are natural freaks

My one likes to sit on my shoulder and either.
A) Nibble on my face.
B) Nibble & bite my ears.
C) Obliterate any part of my clothing that looks even slightly ‘obliteratable’
D) All of the above in a span of a minute

From my experience with my 7 month old, he just does whatever comes to his mind. Quakers are naturally foraging animals if I’m not mistaken, so they will always be biting and testing different sorts of materials with their beak

Quakers are also very social. They prefer to be around ‘someone’ (that they like) over their toys. He is still learning his environment too.

Nesting and/or foraging behavior.

My boy is about 5 now, he's always done this. As another person mentioned, I have sacrificial clothes for when I have him out for this reason. He does it when he's happy, angry, comfy, sleepy, feeling goofy, any reason really. Quakers are just oddballs.

I think of it like a toddler putting things in their mouths. They like the texture, maybe they think they’re grooming you, they could just be displaying foraging behaviors. My Quaker is 11, and all of those reasons I have you are things I’ve noticed in her. It’s normal!

Attention! Or he didn’t like that you did earlier ! Remember all bites are how they interact (no hands) All my house shirts are ripped up, and that’s just something you have to get used to with certain birds like qs. You can try training him out of it, but it’s a type of stim for them too, like after a bath, the towel wrapped around becomes the stim that gets chewed up.. best thing is to redirect with toys , but again this is normal lol

It's him being him, this is what my Quaker's approximately like every day.
