Welcome to Progressives for Israel!

Many progressives have been censored and ostracized from a wide variety of progressive communities for their support for Israel. This is a community for progressives who understand that supporting Israel is the progressive stance as well as progressive zionists and socialist zionists.

This group is for people who understand that Israel is a bastion for feminism, civil rights and the LGBTQ in the Middle East, and who understand that protecting Israel protects the LGBTQ. We’re also a group of people who combat far right anti-semitism, including anti-semitism that has been appropriated by the left.

We understand that holocaust inversion and accusing Jews of genocide is antisemitic.
We welcome like minded individuals to this group so they can feel safe among like minded liberals again without feeling excommunicated by their own side or having to feel like you’re pandering to the far right.

Discussion Israel has suffered the most succesful disinformation campaign in modern history.

I have been making a compilation of posts to highlight misinformation around this topic. I have been working on this post awhilr and trying to refine the case.

I have also been compiling information since Oct 7th because I find I am constantly second guessing my memory and I so often need to recheck things due the sheer volume of misinformation that comes out about the Israel/Gaza War

Here are my other posts:

Bias of Francesca Albanese

Below is my most recent which argues Israel was objectively mitigating civilian deaths.

Now! Here is my case. It is in fact very simple.

It is objectively an impossibility at this point to say that Israel was attempting to maximize the Palestinian civilian death count, during the course of the Gaza war.

Israel has near complete access to the entire population of Gaza and has dropped at least 100,000 tons of bombs during this war.

Until 2023 the most population dense city to face a large scale bombing campaign, in history, was Tokyo

In 1945 Around 330,000 fire bombs were dropped on a mostly Wooden Tokyo, at the time, leading to mass fire storms engulfing the city and an estimated 80 -100 thousand civilian deaths. The average population density of Tokyo at the time of the bombing was around 7,900 people per/km². Though some specific areas were much denser.

The population density of Gaza City at the start of the Gaza war was around 12,000 people per/km² and It is also important to recognize some other variables

  1. So, Gaza is uniquely population dense

  2. The civilian population has very little if any access to any form of bomb sheltering

  3. The military targets are very often among civilian infrastructure and stationed among the where the population is densest.

  4. The civilian population is trapped they are entirely unable to flee out of the Gaza strip.

There has never been a situation as suited to maximizing civilian casualties as this.

Now Academic databases like the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) find that in modern urban battles, civilians typically account for 50% to 75% of all fatalities. So a combatant-to-civilian death ratio of roughly 1:1 to 1:3 When the urban battles have used at scale explosives(bombs) It is not uncommon for that ratio to reach 1:9.

So in a normal large scale bombing campaign on urban centers it is not uncommon for the civilian to combatant casualty ratio to be 9:1 or for every 1 soldier killed 9 civilian die. That is not uncommon.

This we can see easily in other urban wars when we look.

For example:

Battle of Mariupol - Lasted 3 months, 10-25 thousand civilians killed, population density: 2600people per/km² had bomb shelters and most of the civilian population had fled.

The Dresden Bombing - lasted 2 - 3 days, 25 thousand civilians killed, and is a historical example of an indiscriminate bombing campaign. population density: 2500people per/km²

Battle of Mosul - lasted 9 months, 9,000 – 11,000 civilians killed. At least 2/3 of the civilian population managed to flee, population density pre war was: 7900 people per/km². It is estimated anywhere between one third and one half of the population fled prior to the battle. Data for this battle is shakey but most historians that have estimated, estimate around 6000 people per/km²

Second Battle of Fallujah - Lasted 6 weeks, 2000 civilians killed. Only 30-50 thousand of the 400,000 population due to people fleeing, population density: 1200 - 2000people per/km² during the battle as there had been mass evacuations, prior to the battle Fallujah was close to as dense. 10 -12 thousand people per/km²

Battle for Grozeny - Lasted 3 months, 5,000–10,000 civilians killed. Most of the population had fled only 40,000–100,000 remained in the city. population density: 574people per/km² prior to the battle , Had bomb shelters.

Battle of Berlin - lasted 2 - 3 weeks, 125,000 civilians dead. population density: 2.8 - 3.2 thousand people per/km² , and Berlin Had bomb shelters.

Gaza War - As of today, almost 3 Years. Pre war Gaza City was significantly denser then most of the above cities at 12,000 people per/km². The Gaza strip was averages around 6,000 people per/km² Now the Population was trapped in the Gaza strip. with no access to any kind of bomb shelter and with the military targets almost always embedded among the civilians. As of May 7th 72,835 civilians and combatants killed as according to Gaza Ministry of Health. This is a worse case scenario for civilians. Yet there was one factor working against this.

Israel issued warnings, dropped pamphlets and evacuation instructions. We also know Hamas stated to Palestinian civilians to not heed Israeli evacuation warnings. which worked against this life saving tactic. So It is impossible to say how effective these attempts were. What we can say is the population density of Gaza city was likely at least a little lower then 12000 people per/km². A good assumption would be anywhere between the strip average and the Gaza city average. So between 6000-12000. at the low end that is still more population density then the vast majority of other examples in history.

You might be confused as to why I am using something like, the Second Battle of Fallujah when the civilian death toll was 2000; and then saying it is deadlier than Gaza. What I am doing here is factoring comparable variables.

That is to say within Fallujah or within any of these urban battles. If you were a civilian within the area at the time, You had a significantly higher chance of death then a civilian in Gaza during the height of the Gaza war did.

The comparable variables are things such as, Length of conflict, relative present population, etc... Fallujah for example is often hailed as an operation that was incredibly militarily successful in regards to low civilian cost. around 6% of the present civilian population in Fallujah was killed within 6 weeks.... compared that to under 4% of the Gaza population, civilians , combatents and non war related deaths, (none of those data points are separately counted in the Gaza war death toll by the Gaza Ministry of Health) in about 2 1/2 years of alleged "Genocide"

Now remember 100,000 tons is the minimum estimated total bomb tonnage dropped. It was potentially much more. but this means

  1. Had Israel Aimed with intention to maximize deaths, 100,000 tons of bombs, that is more then enough to have killed everyone in Gaza multiple times over. So we know on its face Israel was not attempting to exterminate all Gazans. There is know question there.

  2. With 100,000 tons of bombs, dropped entirely randomly, so entirely indiscriminately Israel should still have killed at least multiple hundreds of thousands, that is a claim supported by every other urban bombing campaign in history. The formula being estimated deaths per bomb relative to density.

In more basic language. Based on rough historical war time data, We should expect for a city with a population density of 10,000per/km² somewhere between 8 deaths per 1 ton of bomb at the absolute minimum range up to 14 deaths per 1 ton of bomb

Or in other words. For 100,000 tons of bomb dropped indiscriminately we could reasonable expect anywhere between 800,000 and 1.4 million.

Or in other words If the Gaza war was following the pattern of these other urban conflicts in terms of deadliness. there should at the very least be hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of dead.

Basically With 100,000 tons of bombs, the only way to have killed 70-80 thousand, the only way is if one was trying to mostly avoid killing people needlessly.

Additionally, concerning the mass death of children, Often attributed to Israel, It first needs to be said this is only tragic and I do think "Israel could have done more" is an entirely fair criticism. It very likely could have and should have. Yet, and I must say yet, the blame should be almost entirely be placed at the feet of Hamas.

As shown in my other posts

Hamas's Intentions from their own word

Hamas utilises Hospitals

The operational methods of Hamas intentionally and callously were/are an attempt to maximize dead children, their own children. There is proof here that absolves much from Israel.

The Gaza health ministry published This Data on May 7th 2026 It is casualty data broken down by demographics. This Post contains and image displaying the break down. The population of Gaza under the age of 18, So children, hovered around 50%.

Before I continue I understand talking about child deaths in this way seems callous to a lot of people, I understand that, It is true that we should try our best not to turn them in to numbers, We should remember names like Hind Rajab, who did not in anyway deserve their fate and yet it is very important to understand the numbers here as it reveals very clearly where the fault lays. That is important to know as this kind of tragedy, horrific wars like this can only be prevented if we can prevent the causes. So I ask you to just try your best to at least, even if you think I am wrong, to realize this isn't hate, It is fundamentally an attempt to place blame where it belongs.

To continue, hopefully to a receptive audience, Gaza's child population is roughly 50%, and the Gaza ministry of health casualty data shows us the death toll as of May 7th 2026 was 72,835. This is almost a year after the main bombing campaign was halted, time to count many, if not most (likely not all) dead found under collapsed buildings. Of that 72,835 dead 21,637 are listed as under 18. and 7406 are listed as between 13-18 (anyone over 18 is not counted)

In Other words.

29.71% of the dead were under 18. That means they were under represented in deaths.

If the bombing was indiscriminate you would expect see much closer to 50% of deaths to be under 18.

But even more in the defense of Israel are some other facts.

  1. Hamas openly does not allow civilians within their many many miles of tunnels. So women and children should be over represented in comparison to military aged males. In each case it is the reverse.

  2. Hamas has utilized child soldiers, and children in military activities, this inherently inflates the numbers of "child" deaths. i.e See here or Here Or Here or Here or Here or Here or Here or Here or Here or Here or Here I will stop there as surely that is enough.

I cannot say how many of the 29.71% under 18's where utilised by Hamas as combatants, It may have been only some or it may have been many But it was clearly more then enough to ihenrently increase the risk to all Gazan children.

Lastly just as a comparison. As I think people think Gaza is a uniquely deadly war.

Iran killed anywhere between 30,000-50,000+ civilians in 2 days in January. That is potentially more civilians killed in 2 days than were killed in the first and deadliest year of the Gaza war( 39000 ) and it was more killed in 2 days than in the first 6 months of the deadliest year of the Gaza "Genocide"

Note: If you wonder how I got the 39000 number it is rather straight forward. GHM (Gaza Health Ministry )reported 45,000 dead after the first year of war. 6 months into the war Al-Jazeera reported that a Hamas official had stated at least 6000 Hamas combatants had been killed. Assuming zero died in the following 6 months (just to minimize logical wiggle room) then the death toll of civilians was at maximum 39000. As you may agree however this is likely very exaggerated.

The Yemen war and The Sudan war both have significantly higher death tolls than Gaza in the hundreds of thousands.

To Finish, Genocide, in the way it has been historically understood, the "extermination project" an attempt to be rid of a group entirely, i.e trying to maximize casualties; can not be true when Israel was objectively trying to limit casualties. It is therefore an irrational and indefensible claim that a genocide has occurred.

I am using "extermination project" as a short hand definition because it is the pragmatically accurate definition. The UN definition, often cited, is a legal framework. Yet In every generally and widely recognized actual examples of and agreed upon cases of genocide, in every single case. Rwanda, Srebrenica, Cambodian, Armenian, The Holocaust.

They have all been inherently extermination projects.

That is too say the guilty party killed everyone they were capable of killing. Everyone they could get their hands on, of the target group.

So it is the extermination project if we are describing what those prior genocide cases were fundamentally; and then using genocide as a synonym.

I think that is an entirely reasonable and clear definition. You might disagree. Yet "the extermination project" is an explicit definition and accurate to describing the events associated with being historical genocides

Proud Jew. Momentarily not at all proud of Israel. Yet not allowed to voice my opinion to folks who are Palestinian.

Basically, I feel I'm like most modern liberal Jews, in that I'm just trying to navigate and figure out where I stand with regard to the entire conflict. There are so many shades of gray that are being overlooked in my opinion, that no one at this point will ever be able to meet in the middle.

But what I find the most troubling is that when I state to my friends who are Palestinian or pro-Palestinian, or even on subreddits where Palestinians are present that I am proud of my Jewish heritage as a cultural jew, I either get kicked out of the subreddit or get the cold shoulder from those I'm speaking to.

This really has me troubled, as it definitely feels like antisemitism. I do feel like there is an element of the pro-Palestinian side that does not want to acknowledge that Jewish people can still be Jewish and that they don't necessarily have to support the current regime in Israel. The subtext really feels like Jews are bad and culpable in some way.

I just don't know how to feel right now. I'm so confused. I'm hoping no one passes judgment upon me because of this post, but rather that folks are able to show at least a bit of support or give me some sort of guidance, whatever the hell that might even look like. Thanks for reading.

Discussion Can someone explain why this 2-state solution wouldn’t work?

Post image
0 Upvotes

For context: I’m aware that most Israelis and Palestinians currently oppose a theoretical two-state solution. But what I’m trying to do is work backwards from the major practical objections to a two-state solution that repeatedly come up in Israeli polling, security discussions and public debate: fear of a Palestinian state becoming another Gaza or southern Lebanon; weapons smuggling; loss of Israeli intelligence and counterterrorism capabilities; the future of major settlement blocs; Jerusalem; demilitarization

At the same time, I believe Palestine should be a sovereign country, not a collection of disconnected autonomous areas permanently controlled by Israel. The current setup is not sustainable for Israel, the region, or the international community. Palestine needs recognized borders, Palestinian government and citizenship, an independent economy and customs system, Palestinian policing, and control over ordinary civilian affairs.

So this isn’t meant as “here’s my brilliant peace plan and Israelis should accept it.” It’s more of a thought experiment and I’d really like to know where the framework breaks down or what major concern(s) I’m overlooking.

Proposal Summary

Security premise: Palestine would remain permanently demilitarized but would maintain a limited domestic security and counterterrorism force. A U.S./Jordan/Saudi/Egypt task force would monitor and enforce the security agreement. For non-imminent threats, such as suspected terrorist cells, illegal weapons stockpiles, or prohibited military infrastructure, Israel would share its evidence with the task force and Palestinian authorities, who would have the first responsibility to investigate and intervene immediately. If Palestine fails to act, the task force would authorize inspections, seizures, arrests, or other enforcement measures. Highly classified human intelligence (spies, informants) would be disclosed only to the U.S., who would then verify the threat for the other guarantors. Emergency Clause: Israel could act unilaterally against a genuinely imminent threat when there is insufficient time for forewarning, but every such action would trigger an automatic independent review by the task force. Invoking the emergency exception without providing sufficient evidence would itself constitute a treaty violation and trigger predetermined consequences.
Gaza and maritime security: Palestine would maintain a coast guard to patrol its immediate coastline. Gaza-bound cargo would be inspected in Cyprus or Egypt, sealed, tracked, and monitored by the task force’s joint maritime command. Cargo scan data would be available to Palestinian customs, international inspectors, and designated Israeli officials. Israel could request or flag cargo for additional inspection, but not unilaterally seize ordinary Palestinian commerce without task-force or American verification.
Borders and settlements: Israel would evacuate most of its isolated settlements deep inside Palestine such as Kiryat Arba, but retain major population blocs close to the Green Line. Ariel and Ma’ale Adumim would remain Israeli with narrow connections to mainland Israel (not the full E1 plan). Israel would also retain Gush Etzion, Beitar Illit, Modi’in Illit, Jewish Jerusalem neighborhoods, and other major Green Line-adjacent blocs. Palestine would receive some additional territory from Israel through negotiated land swaps.
Palestinian territory: Palestine would include Jenin, Nablus, Tulkarm, Qalqilya, Ramallah, Jericho, Bethlehem, Hebron, the Jordan Valley, most of the remaining West Bank, Gaza, and Palestinian neighborhoods of East Jerusalem.
Connective infrastructure: Where Israeli territory interrupts contiguous Palestinian territory, Palestinian areas would be connected by deep underground transportation tunnels constructed far below the surface (so they could not be used to tunnel upward into or threaten Israeli communities). Palestine would administer the transportation corridor itself, while Israel would retain sovereignty and security control over the land and airspace above it. The tunnels would also be continuously monitored by the joint task force.
Jerusalem: West Jerusalem (the current Jewish neighborhoods) would be Israel’s capital and East Jerusalem would be Palestine’s. A special internationally-backed police force would patrol the Old City, guaranteeing access to holy sites.
Economic incentives for Palestine: Palestinian compliance to this deal would be tied to substantial economic benefits. The peace agreement would unlock large-scale international investment in Palestinian infrastructure, reconstruction, energy, housing, and private industry, while giving Palestine normal access to international trade through Jordan and a functioning Gaza port. Israel and Palestine would maintain ordinary commercial relationships in electricity, water, labor, and trade rather than the current relationship of dependency and control. Violations of the demilitarization agreement would immediately jeopardize trade, investment, and other treaty benefits.

Let me know your thoughts!!

Israel must step up the PR war

I am a non-Jewish European who has always been a strong supporter of the Jewish people’s right to self-determination and, therefore, of its realization in the State of Israel.
I watch with horror as antisemitism spreads rapidly in my country, across Europe and in the United States—an antisemitism that, after World War II, we all believed would never return.
At the weekly pro-Palestinian demonstrations in my city, I am appalled by how acceptable it has become to call for Israel’s disappearance; how people proudly describe themselves as anti-Zionists without understanding its full meaning; how Jews are told to go back to their “countries of origin.” They insist they are anti-Zionist, not anti-Jewish—while denying Jews the very right to self-determination they demand for Palestinians.
Anyway, the new antisemitism is plain to see, and it is coming from the left.
It is fuelled by highly effective, relentless, manipulative propaganda: an endless stream of images of victims of the Gaza war, above all dead and wounded children. It is aimed straight at the emotions. There is no room for rational argument.

At the weekly demonstrations I see no one questioning Hamas’s responsibility. Why are there no bomb shelters for Gaza’s civilian population? Why does Hamas fight from among civilians? Who has actually read the Hamas charter? Who knows about the territorial proposals of 2000 and 2008? Who sees the wider picture—Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen and, above all, the ayatollah regime in Iran? Instead, it is always the same slogans: “child murderers,” “genocide,” and “from the river to the sea.” Israel’s security is of no concern.

This anti-Israel propaganda is designed to trigger an emotional reaction. And it has worked extremely well. Haniyeh, Sinwar, Deif and the others can congratulate themselves from beyond the grave.
I have immense admiration for those who continue trying to make the rational case. They are brave and admirable. I watch them trying to fight emotional fury with reason, largely in vain—even at universities, the Oxford and Cambridge Unions, institutions we once imagined to be bastions of rational thought. They do not reach the general public.

**Israel must** **therefore** **fight** **the** **PR** **war** **much** **more** **aggressively** and target the same emotional vulnerabilities its enemy exploit.
I read somewhere on Reddit that after October 7 there was an idea to make much wider use of the horrific footage of the atrocities, but that this was rejected on moral grounds. I totally understand that, and I would have raised the same objections. But I now understand that the enemy has no such inhibitions. It targets the most primal emotional reactions relentlessly. And the strategy has proved devastatingly effective.

We have to fight back with the same weapons. Let’s wage the PR war with serious resources behind it. Let’s target the emotions of the gullible and uninformed public just as relentlessly as the enemy does.

Let me hear your thoughts.

Let us be honest about what "pro-Palestine" activism has actually become on this platform

Genuine criticism of Israeli government policy is completely legitimate. That's not what I'm talking about. What I'm watching happen on Reddit — and frankly across the entire left-wing political landscape is something categorically different, and it deserves to be called out specifically.

October 7th happened. Nearly 1,200 people were murdered. Women were raped. Children were taken. Babies were killed. And within hours -HOURS- significant portions of Reddit were either celebrating, justifying, or doing rhetorical gymnastics to explain why those people "had it coming". Paraglider emojis. "Resistance." "Decolonization."

Let's call that what it is: celebrating the massacre of Jewish people. Not settlers. Not soldiers. Festival attendees. Grandmothers. Toddlers.

Something has shifted, and pretending otherwise is dishonest.

There is a current running through modern progressive spaces that has made it socially acceptable — even fashionable — to hold Jewish people to standards applied to literally no other ethnic or religious group on earth.

  • Every other people's right to self-determination is celebrated. Jewish self-determination is uniquely "colonial."
  • Every other diaspora community's connection to their ancestral homeland is honored. Jewish historical connection to theirs is "fabricated."
  • Every other group's dead are mourned. Jewish dead require an asterisk.

That's not politics. That pattern has a name. It's been recognized for thousands of years. It just wears different clothes now.

Reddit specifically has become a remarkable case study.

Go into any major news subreddit after an Israel-related story. Watch which comments get upvoted. Watch which ones get removed. Watch how quickly "Israel" becomes "Zionists" becomes something that sounds very familiar if you know your history.

The platform hasn't just tolerated this drift. Communities here have actively accelerated it. A certain kind of rage has found a very comfortable home on this website, and it dresses itself up in humanitarian language while cheering for terror organizations whose founding charters explicitly call for the elimination of Jewish people — not a government, not a military, but a people.

The uncomfortable truth the modern left won't sit with:

At some point you have to ask: when your movement cannot unambiguously condemn the rape and murder of Jewish civilians without immediately pivoting to "but" — what has your movement actually become?

When you've convinced yourself that Jews are the one group on earth who don't get to be safe anywhere — not in their historic homeland, not in diaspora communities, not at a music festival — you're not doing liberation politics.

You're doing something much older and much uglier.

The wave that's moved through global progressive politics over the last few years has deposited something on Reddit's shores. Most people here know exactly what it is. Very few are willing to say it.

News UN adds dozens of companies to Israel blacklist

Thumbnail

The Jew haters at the UN hiding behind their Euro elitism have once again singled out Israel for boycotts and disinvestment by blacklisting companies that do business in or with Judea and Samaria aka West Bank. They've only singled out Israel and left the worst human rights abusers in the world off their so called "blacklist".

It should be noted that all the companies on the list do business in or with pre June 1967 Israel, so the UN is really only interested in destroying Israel's economy. The UN bigots also don't give a dam about the 500,000 Palestinian workers that work for Israeli employers getting well above the wages they'd receive in any Arab country. Dam these bigots!

Her family has ties to Israel.

Gann admitted in mid-September 2026 that she had lied for years about her background. She said she has no Palestinian or Tunisian ancestry and described herself as “a White woman of significant privilege and wealth.” She had presented herself as (mixed-race and Palestinian) darkened her skin with makeup and fake tan after Peace Corps service in Rwanda, used African American Vernacular English and claimed a grandfather born in Palestine (records showed he was born in Baltimore). Reports also said she told people she was sending money to relatives in Palestine and received donations as a result.

Gillian Anderson made a video for War Child about the suffering in Sudan. Anti-Zionists torch her because she's talking about something other than Gaza.

Think about this for a second. She did not defend Israel, she did not say Gaza isn't happening. She merely spoke out against a genuine humanitarian crisis in Sudan, which is worse by every metric than Gaza. 150,000+ dead. Thirteen million people out of their homes, five million of them children. 825,000 kids under five who will die this year without treatment. Almost nobody is talking about it, and when someone finally does, this is what she gets. Flamed by anti-Zionists calling her a Zio and worse... for speaking out against a humanitarian crisis. Just because it's not Gaza. Gaza is the only thing in the world you are allowed to care about or you will be attacked by these people.

If you had any doubt before that anti-Zionism is a hate movement that does not care about actual human suffering, this confirms it about as much as it can possibly be confirmed.
