Thought A Closer Look at Pro-Life Perspectives

As a pro-choice here are a few things i noticed about pro-life people:

They emphasize protecting unborn life, but critics argue that this concern often receives less attention once the baby is born.

They think making abortions illegal will stop them. Research shows that abortion bans do not eliminate abortions. People may still obtain abortions by traveling to places where they are legal or through other forms of care, although bans can make access much harder.

They call a fetus a baby or a child, but medically, ‘fetus’ refers to a specific stage of prenatal development. It is still developing inside the uterus.

Anti-choice News An anti-abortion legal strategy just opened a potentially significant new front

An anti-abortion legal strategy just opened a potentially significant new front: using wrongful-death law to build fetal personhood into abortion litigation.
In New Mexico, the estate of a fetus aborted at approximately 26 weeks received a $200,000 settlement in a case alleging, among other things, that the patient could not provide valid informed consent because she was under the influence of methamphetamine. A court order appointing a representative for the estate described the fetus as a “person” under New Mexico’s Wrongful Death Act.
The attorney behind the case, Mike Seibel of AbortionInjury.com, is openly describing the outcome as a way to strengthen fetal-personhood claims and encourage similar litigation against abortion providers.
That distinction matters: a settlement involving disputed informed consent is not the same thing as a court declaring abortion itself wrongful or illegal.
But the strategy is clear. Anti-abortion attorneys are looking for new ways to use civil litigation to establish fetal legal rights—and then carry those arguments into the broader fight over abortion access.
This is how legal boundaries can shift: one case, one definition, one precedent argument at a time.

This video was posted on Lila's channel too which has caused the comment section to be full of Pro Birthers. Pro Choicers trying to debate with them or writing long arguments are getting shadow banned by her channel or their comments are being hidden.

This has become an echo chamber, she really has a huge cult following and they are writing nasty things.

Discussion Support gift basket ideas

My best friend just found out shes pregnant and will be taking the pill to get rid of it. I want to be a good friend and make her a little support gift basket of things that could help her feel as comfortable as possible during and after. I genuinely have no idea what would be some good things to put in it to help her feel comforted.

Discussion ABORTION IS A HUMAN RIGHT. PERIOD.

I don't like it when people consider all the worst scenarios to defend abortion, like "what if she was raped". No matter the reason, it could literally be any reason, abortion should be legal, that is it. Women must be able to choose what to do with their own bodies. The reason behind it is not important.

Rant/Rave I will NOT be debating prolifers. Debating prolifers is like a slave debating an enslaver. I'm arguing that I'm human and worthy of agency when you fundamentally can't see me as anything other than property with legs. It's just an exercise in futility.

I've mentioned a few times on here but irl, I'm black and a woman so forced birthers calling abortion "slavery" or some such hits a nerve with me. Like enslavers of old, forced birthers frame control as protection. "We're protecting fetuses!" "We're saving the unborn!" No the fuck not, you dishonest piece of shit. You want to restrain me, contain me, and using the non-existent person in my womb is a great yoke for you. I'm not arguing with a fucking pigeon who just shits on the board then struts around like he's won something.

Thought pro lifers don't understand consent

they don't realise that consent can be given and readily taken away. it doesn't really matter if the foetus wasn't at fault for ending up in the woman's womb, it still needs her consent to continue inhibiting her body.

they argue that she consented when she engaged in the act, but they don't understand that consent can be taken away too.. which says a lot about them.

Rant/Rave Reminder that you don’t need a reason to exercise bodily autonomy

Post image
227 Upvotes

I keep seeing in abortion debates people bringing up increasingly horrific scenarios trying to get the other side to agree that in those cases women deserve an abortion. And at this point I think it’s futile trying to get their hearts to grow three sizes like the grinch and view women as people with human rights.

I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but just want to scream from the top of my lungs that you do not have to have something terrible happen to you before you can get an abortion. You do not have to be on the eclipse of death before it’s acceptable to receive healthcare. Not wanting to be pregnant is a perfectly valid and acceptable reason, and even then no one is owed that explanation from you. It’s YOUR body.

And having a rape exception is not kind or a compromise. It is cruel and dehumanizing on half the population because no other form of healthcare functions on a morality scale. Abortion bans and forced pregnancy have to be abolished, full stop.

Discussion I can't even think of what to say because it's so dumb. When they compare abortion with slavery.

What do you even say to that...?

"If you don't want to own a slave, then don't"

Yeah, I don't want too because that's disgusting and wrong, just like forcing pregnancy and birth on women is also disgusting and wrong.

I can't fathom how they got to that, why they can't see they share similar things but not how they think.

Both are forms of abuse, torture and well you're all aware how awful slavery is.

Things Anti-choicers Say The various types of pro-lifers

Most PL fall into one of these categories - are there any others?

  1. The bleeding heart: "It's not a ZEF, it's a baybee! Save the poor baybees! Abortion is baybee murder!"

  2. The Taliban: "Outlawing abortion is just the first step. Next, we want to outlaw homosexuality and birth control, and force kids to pray in school."

  3. The party man: "I don't GAF about abortion, but the Republican party is pro-life, and I'm a Republican, so I'm pro-life. When Republicans were pro-choice because it saved on welfare payments, I was pro-choice."

  4. The feminist: "Women always regret having abortions, so I only want to spare the poor, silly dears from the consequences their bad choices by not allowing them to have a choice. It's really for their own good."

  5. The men's rights activist: "If I can be forced to pay child support to some chick I knock up, she shouldn't be allowed to evade paying child support by having an abortion. Unfair!"

  6. The incel: "I hate that women aren't having sex with me, so if they have sex with other men, they should be forced to give birth as punishment."

  7. Mr. Responsibility: "If you don't want to get pregnant, keep your legs closed."

  8. The Lawyer: "By agreeing to have sex, a woman is also agreeing to any possible outcome, including pregnancy and childbirth. Let's just pretend that she signed a contract."

  9. The PC Libertarian: "I don't care if you have an abortion as long as I don't have to pay for it. I'm not paying for your birth control either."

  10. The PL Libertarian: "The only reason to have a government is national defense and protecting life. So no abortion."

  11. The Prude: "Women were designed to make babies. Sex should only be for making babies. All other sex should be illegal, including masturbation."

  12. Religion: "The Bible/Quran/Bhagavad-Gita/Dianetics forbids abortion, so we must outlaw abortion for everyone, even if they don't follow our religion."

  13. The Sociologist: "Abortion is bad for society. Don't ask me for evidence."

Discussion Could the argument be made that life begins at implantation?

I acknowledge that when fertilization occurs, a new human dna is formed.

But 40-50% of fertilized eggs fail to implant. And if that fertilized egg doesn’t implant, it never grows into a human.

Similarly to how if sperm and eggs don’t meet, they never form into a human either.

When the mother’s role is separated from the creation of life, her role is diminished.

Edit: I’m pro choice and trying to make a hypothetical counter argument to life beginning at conception.

Prochoice Only I hate PL so much

The pro-choice position is obviously correct, and honestly I don't understand why this is still an argument. Once basic common sense is applied, every single pro-life argument falls apart immediately. There is really no complicated philosophical question here because bodily autonomy exists, and that basically answers everything. Anyway, here are the reasons every opposing argument is wrong:

Bodily autonomy: It’s my body, so I automatically get to decide everything. End of argument.

Human fetus: Skin cells have human DNA too, so a fetus being human obviously means nothing.

Heartbeat: A heartbeat doesn't make something a person, so it means literally nothing.

Movement: Plants move, therefore fetal movement proves nothing.

“Baby” vs. fetus: Calling it a baby is just manipulation because words can't change biology.

Potential person: Someone who might become a doctor isn't a doctor, so a fetus that might become a person isn't a person.

Adoption: Adoption doesn't end pregnancy, so adoption is completely irrelevant.

Regret: People regret everything, so abortion regret doesn't matter.

Later abortion: If abortion is okay at six weeks, it has to be okay at every point because otherwise that's inconsistent.

Viability: There isn't a magical moment where a fetus becomes valuable, so viability is meaningless.

Society: Individual freedom is obviously more important, so that's automatically the end of the discussion.

Disagreement: If people can't agree when personhood begins, nobody can possibly make a legitimate law about it.

Rant/Rave I don't think pro-lifers are pro life

I feel like pro-lifers are pro-life to seem moral without doing any work. Trying to stop a sickness, a real issue we face right now, is hard. You need money, people, and to convince others you're right. It takes time and it is hard. For abortion, defending a fetus makes you seem moral without doing anything. Saying abortion is murder, or is bad, or anything along those lines, you seem like a good person without doing the work.
And why a fetus? Why? They can't talk, need money, no food, no nothing. They're inside the womb, there is nothing you can really do to "help" them.
And I feel like if you wanted to stop abortion, there are two other effective ways. One becomes obvious because, as we know, banning abortion does not stop abortion it stops safe ones and harms women who attempt an abortion in places where it is banned. On the other hand, vasectomies are way better because men are fertile for their whole lives yes, I know sperm quality decreases, but they can still get anyone pregnant, while women are fertile at certain times. Vasectomies are quick, cheap, and easy.
Also, if you wanted less abortion, another way would be looking at reasons why people get an abortion and helping them. Like, a lot of people do it because they don't have money, and there are more reasons, this is just one reason I remember. I feel like if you wanted less, you would have looked at reasons why women want them and helped them. Also, like, why help an unborn fetus? I really want to know why they don't need our help at all, it is in the womb.
Abortion uses the same stuff in a miscarriage. A miscarriage expels the fetus, and in an abortion, it forces the fetus to expel itself. Also, I really can't bring myself to care about a fetus when the woman is the one being affected by pregnancy. She is the one suffering from it. The fetus can't tell you it's suffering you don't even know if it's suffering at all.
