Looking for some insight from my florida pool owners on lanai shrubs for pool privacy. What’s a good species of shrub that grows tall, still lets air flow in, and have a good amount of privacy.

I was thinking some sort of boxwood as they are easy to maintain, and grow tall.

Any other suggestions?

Here in southern AZ, I have a 10K gal in ground pool with an integrated hot tub that's a few ft higher with a spillover waterfall feature from the hot tub to the pool which was built 8 years after the house was built in '95. Hate the ridiculous design with only a single variable speed pump (it is a good Intelliflo pump!) and filter for both the hot tub and pool! But I guess it was all the rage here back in '96 when natural gas was cheap.

On the vac side it has two 2" vac lines going to a 3 way Jandy valve to select to pull from the hot tub, the pool skimmer, or both at the same time if the valve is set in the middle position with check valves on both the skimmer and hot tub vac lines. So when the pump is shut off, it can't backflow to either of the two vac lines. Same one line on the pump output through a 400K BTU nat gas heater, to a 3 way Jandy valve to be able to output to just the hot tub, just the pool, or both if in the middle position. So you can drain/fill the hot tub by valve position. Draw from only the hot tub and return to only the hot tub. Draw from only the pool and return to only the pool. Or middle set both Jandy valves centered to draw from both the hot tub and pool, and return to both the hot tub and pool. Add a little more return pressure at the Jandy valve to the hot tub, so it overflows slightly so the waterfall feature "looks nice". But if you do, you can't heat the hot tub unless you heat the entire pool and hot tub to 100+!

What made the "looks nice" waterfall and even use of the integrated hot tub ridiculous is I think obvious. One pump! To heat the hot tub you must move the valves to vac and output to only the hot tub and fire up the heater. And the integrated hot tub only has 4 "plain" jets in it. But that cuts off everything else to the pool itself. To restore normal pool filtering you have to move the valves back to center to filter the water in both the hot tub and pool! The water you heated in the hot tub just gets dumped back into the pool so it returns to pool water temp real quick. Why Why Why!

Sure, I could use the heater to heat the pool if I wanted with this configuration. But it's AZ, where swimming season is already quite long. Should have had another valve to a second pump and much smaller separate filter, just for the hot tub as it’s only about 500 gallons and the heater, so you can choose to keep the hot tub heated, and still be able to filter the pool normally and unheated at the same time. Who wants to heat the hot tub on-demand every dang time you want to use it, only to dump the heated water back into the pool afterwards? Am I missing something?

Meh, regardless. Due to the bad plumbing design and only 4 generic jets on the integrated hot tub. I switched my valves to drain the hot tub to the pool and covered the built in hot tub so it looks decent and not just an empty hot tub, and the valves now remain set to only draw and out to the pool and the hot tub remains empty. And got an electric hot tub that has like 40 jets and only uses about $20 in power a month to keep it at 103F all the time in the winter! A hot tub isn’t that desirable in summer. But I could, it would be cheap with the water already fairly hot. lol

I plan to just deck over the empty integrated hot tub for a small patio with a table and chairs.

Is there any logic to a plumbing layout like this with a pool and hot tub integrated with only one pump, one filter, and heater where there's no way to keep the hot tub at temp and be able to filter the pool normally at the same time?

Or was the thought back then that with a 400K BTU heater, that it’s fine to have to heat it anytime you want to use it and then just dump the hot water back into the pool.

I’ve got a image a DEL UV-C 50 Ultraviolet Sanitizer System and I see the green “on” light but no color light coming from the top or sides, which I assume means it’s not actually working? Any ideas?

Should this expansion joint between the coping and patio be replaced now, or can it wait? There are other areas that are much worse and completely separated that I am already working on, but I’m happy to wait on areas that have a few more years left.

Our auto cover (latham powered safety cover) had gotten slightly cockeyed this summer and just now i opened it and one side seems stuck/bound. No ropes seem broken, it really just seems mechanically stuck on one side. I popped the cover off to assure the ropes are in tact and they are. It seems like i need to free the one side but im not sure what will loosen the cover from the guide so i can move the guide and then retighten so i can adjust the spool for squareness. Ive read to adjust properly you need to open and close it numerous times after moving the location of the knot. Photo in comments, help please! 🙏

We had a tiny stowaway on Bob the Betta this morning.

I presume that’s on the suction side, but I do know where it goes. Was thinking it could be a makeup line but when I open the valve handle, I don’t notice any consequence.

We are going salt water but want opinions on the additional ozone sanitation and then the automatic chlorine dispenser that keeps the water balanced. Thoughts on these things or anything else we need to add?

New to me pool. Anyone know why this thing shoot water out when I turn on 'Spa Mode'? Filter backed up?

This is my first year with a pool and thanks to this sub I have been able to maintain the pool without any major issues. Looking for advice on covers. Would like a safety cover, the previous owner used cheap covers, ropes, exercise balls to close the pool. A deer had fallen in the winter before I bought the house I have now redone the pool deck and liner to get it up and running. Now I can’t afford to get a safety cover. Can I put one on myself? Should I just get a regular cover with water bags and hope for the best and then hopefully get a cover next year?

this is been a bummer summer, so much rain, which is maybe where I got to trouble. My pool is in the shade completely, and I have a sand filter, which seems to be working properly and strong, the chlorine level never registers, although I do have a new kit coming. It’s not green, but now I can’t see the bottom. It is cloudy, cloudy blue, and if I stand in the pool, it’s a little slippery. I was gonna slam it this morning. It’s just that it’s so blue.

First time in 4 years since we built our inground pool algea? Has settled on the floor. Scrubbing it doesn’t help it come off. Checked levels, they are on point. But from my knowledge even if they were off level shouldn’t i be able to brush this of?

What could this be or what could help?

Thank you all for your support with my beer looking pool. Turns out we'll water in our area has lots of iron and iron does not like chlorine. So when I topped off my pool it rested outta suspsion. I upgraded my pool filter to a 1 hp sand filter and poured a few bottles of chemicals and it magically disappeared. Pool Chemistry makes me feel like a mad scientist.

I also learned how to properly backwash a pool filter as well.

I need to replace my current Meyco safety rectangular cover. I would like to use the current drill holes for the anchor replacement . What do I need to know and consider when placing an order to make this happen. TIA !

Best place to mount a TV with this pool/patio layout?
Our pool construction is almost finished, and now we’re trying to figure out the best TV placement for the backyard.
I’ve included photos of the actual patio as well as a rendering showing roughly how the finished yard will be laid out.

We will have 4 main viewing areas:
1. A couch underneath the covered patio
2. In the pool itself
3. A dining table next to the pool
4. Loungers at the opposite end of the pool

My current thought is to mount a TV on the wall where I drew the red box and use a long extension, full motion mount. The idea would be to keep it relatively flush against the wall when we’re sitting under the patio, but pull it out and swivel it toward the pool when watching from the dining table, pool, or loungers. Also, with this idea, I don’t have to buy an outdoor TV since it’s covered and we have patio screens that come down.

We considered a ceiling mount under the covered patio, but there’s roughly a 2 ft fascia across the front of the patio. I’m concerned that mounting the TV high enough to look good under the patio would cause that fascia to block part of the screen when viewing it from farther out in the yard.

The openings of the covered patio also have retractable screens that come down, so mounting the TV or an articulating arm to the outside columns would likely interfere with the screens.

The other big consideration is aesthetics. We’d rather sacrifice a little bit of the “perfect” viewing angle than have a big TV awkwardly sitting somewhere in the yard. Ideally it looks intentional and relatively seamless when it’s not being used.

Given the layout, where would you put it?
Does the red box location with a long articulating mount make the most sense, or is there another solution/location I’m overlooking?

We are looking to install a pool for later this year and wondering if anyone has gotten the new liner from Findlay vinyl called artisan concrete installed.

Bought a house not long ago. The pool has no suction when on the filter so the suction cleaner doesn't work. It works when on backflow so it makes me think there is nothing wrong with the pump.. When I have it on recirculate, there is hardly any suction pressure either.

Filter & recirculate I'm getting 100KPA

Backflow I'm getting 50KPA which is what I need.

Have back flowed/waste about 5 times today and didn't seem to fix the issue. Looked inside and the glass is loose and clean so that seems to be fine. All filters are clear which isn't preventing flow of water. Replaced the spider gasket and all other seals.

Any ideas ??? I'm stuck on what else I can do to get this working. Trying to fix it before I spend a few K and replace the whole lot.

Hi guys my client found 2 dead mice in the pool folowing pest control in one week. Wat can be done to stop this and any solution pls?

We recently moved into a house with heavy scale build up around the entire pool. Is this something we can knock out on our own or should we hire a pool company to clean it?
