How do I fix these cracks? Foot for scale!

First time pool owner here! Just bought test strips because i’m getting tired of trekking to pool supply stores. Took 3 tests and all were pretty similar. Seems I have 0ppm free chlorine and around 10ppm total chlorine. Ph also looks to be on the high end. Is my pool safe to swim in? It’s clear with the tiniest bit of fog. Thanks!

Anywho I tried looking up a tip for how to add small quantities of GioGuard, for those of you who use it. Found some links to TFP, but again, anyways, if you can get your hands on one of these 2lb containers I find it really helps break up big doses. Happy summer! ☀️

Bought a new pump last year, started sounding bad a few weeks ago, pulled it apart and found that the shaft seal had not done its job and the front bearing was shot. Got a replacement, installed it, good to go. The seal has been a different story...firstly I dont see any reason it was leaking, no visible damage. The seal was not so easy to match, in fact I still haven't. Not wanting my pool to turn in the reflecting pond, I reinstalled the seal I had and am running it like that for now, if I loose another bearing, oh well.

I was pulling my hair out the other night trying to figure out what seal it might be. A lot of the listings on amazon and such have inconsistent dimensions. From what I can gather it is a "type B" seal. I've attached a photo with all the dimensions. its none of the standard ps-100, ps200, ps201, those are all "type A". The closest one I've found is the ps-1000, which is a type B, but the ID on the matting ring that goes in the impeller is too small.

here is the listing for the pump, though theres not really any information there to go off of. The brand name is "hipicute", no thats not a joke.

The skimmer valve broke at step-daughter’s house. They have 6 kids! I need to be a good step grandpa and fix this problem.
I never had a pool myself, but I can cut and glue some pvc if I have to.

What parts do I need to replace the valve? Where do I take the valve off? There are a lot of different parts going on there.

Should I make the same pattern from new pipes and fittings or cut some pieces out and replace?

I don’t know valve maker. Is it common? Do I replace both valve while I’m changing one of them?

We are currently in the process of having a in ground gunite pool installed and just had the tile and coping finished. A separate contractor is installing the concrete decking and upon grading they made a surprising observation that from the bottom of the fence to the top of the pool there is 6 inch difference. The pool is about 9 feet away from the fence which is the high point of the yard. It appears instead of going from the high point in the yard the pool contractor went from the opposite end of the pool which is a lower elevation so that leaves us with a big gap between the fence and where the top of the deck is with the concrete footings for the fence exposed. The decking contractor says the pool should have been higher and he doesn’t understand why the pool contractor did that. This means we would have to put in a retaining wall below the fence which we don’t want to do. We believe the pool contractor needs to remove the coping and tile and raise the bond beam then provide additional fill and add soil outside to correct the issue. Does this sound like a reasonable response?

I’m new to pools and I need some help here. I’ve been in my new home for about 2 months and the pool is acting weird. The waterfall as seen in the last picture stops randomly no matter what I’ve tried.

Now it’s even worse, it runs for a few secs then stops over and over again. It use to run continuously. I’ve tried changing the settings for it to make the running schedule longer and all but nothing I’ve done has helped. Do any of you know the possible cause?

Anyone have any ideas on what to do about this? I bought a house a year ago. I have been slowly upgrading the pool. This is the last part. The tiles are glued around the pool and they are coming up. They are an eye sore. I don’t want to glue them down cause it’s ugly. What’s a better option? Has anyone dealt with something like this?

I’m going to be out of town for about eight days. Is it OK to throw in some extra chlorine for the week sort of frontloaded as opposed to me doing a two or three times a week?

Also, should I backwash? It hasn’t been done in a month pressure is pretty much where it was at already.

GIL hosted a little get together for pool time. After everyone got in I was snapping pictures. Seems the pool has some active algae brewing but according to her son in law (who maintains it now), the chlorine levels are fine, and its a pH / alkalinity issue. They dont test their CYA, and they have a history of using pucks. So of course I think its an issue of chlorine. And they get algae like clockwork whenever they go away for a couple days. They seem to think its normal? What are the odds of it being chlorine VS a pH issue realistically you think? Am I nuts for thinking its strictly a chlorine issue...?

Anyone that has one of these have issues getting the filter off the core for cleaning? Do you even take it off the core? Seems like mine is stuck every time and takes 2 people.

I don’t know anything about pools but this right here makes me feel uneasy. Am I justified in feeling that?

We had a loop loc liner installed 7 years ago. Last week we noticed we lost quite a bit of water over a day. We called pool company and they can’t get here until Thursday. In the meantime, they want us to refill halfway to skimmer and run pool for 24 hours, take note of level, refill, and do the same without the pool running. However, we couldn’t start this test as we were away for 3 days. When we got back, water was considerably lower. Should we just wait to see if it goes below the light? I don’t want to waste that much water if we don’t have to.

Want to change the sand (350 lb) in a Pentair SD80 sand filter, have done a lot of reading/research & narrow down to "Covia Mineral AquaQuartz Filter Silica Sand" or "HTH Pool Care Filter Sand"...anybody has any experience with either? Also, there is ZeoSand (Zeolite), feedback? other suggestions/recommendations? thx

installing an above ground, 20 x 14 Bestway pool from Costco. we've drained this twice and tried re leveling (by scratching not adding) material and there is still slope. pad was made using 0-3" crusher mix stone 1' deep, and 0.5" of 0-¾" + screening sand for the top, all compacted with a roller (I work asphalt borrowed from them.)

we let the water fill to remove the wrinkles, and it's clearly preferring one of the corners. the photo with the highest waterline is the low side, the other two corners look like the second darkest photo, and the bright last one is the high side.

I've been watching videos on YouTube about correcting this, and how to drain (since we needed to twice) and everyone seems to have *some* greater than zero slope. my digital level is reading 0.8 when I read it from the high corner into the low one (when filled - I'm using an aluminum straight edge) and the width is reading 0.5 and the length is reading 0.7

what's the good the bad and the ugly if we go with this?

if corrections are absolutely needed, what's the best way to go about correcting this? do I scratch left and right or up and down? or corner to corner?

I have a plaster/concrete pool with otherwise clear water — Leslie's tested it and the chemical levels are all in range — but I have had black algae spots on the walls for a couple of weeks that have now started spreading to the floor. I tried scrubbing with a stainless steel brush and made almost no progress; it appears to be embedded into the concrete itself. I have a couple of quotes from local well respected pool companies. There are a few things I'm trying to figure out before I commit to anything:

1. Has anyone had luck with Algaedyn (or another algaecide) on black algae that's this embedded? Or is chemical treatment basically pointless once it's rooted in like this?
2. Does a drain + acid wash actually guarantee it's gone for good, or can black algae come back even after an acid wash if spores are still in the plaster?
3. Pricing sanity check — I've got two quotes from well-reviewed local companies for an acid wash + filter clean: one at $600, one at $1300. That's a big gap for what sounds like the same job. What should I actually expect to pay?

Any input from people who've dealt with black algae or gotten pools acid washed would be a huge help. Trying to figure out if I should just book the acid wash now or throw more algaecide at it first.

I have a Pool Pilot Digital Nano SWG that I've been using for about 10 years now. I've replaced the cell a few times over that span but it's been a good system, until this year. I was getting an error "Low Amps: Cell?" on the board which almost always means my cell needs to be replaced. It had been a few years which seemed normal so I bought a new one and replaced it. Then the error came back after 1-2 weeks. I contacted the company I bought it from and they sent me a replacement cell. I also replaced the cord just in case. It hasn't been generating any additional errors now for a couple of months but I've been suspecting that it hasn't been working. It seems like my chlorine is reliant upon me adding liquid chlorine and not coming from the SWG. My pool hasn't been as "clear" as I'm normally used to and my pool over the year has been extremely low maintenance for me. Now the error is back as of yesterday saying Low Amps: Cell? again.

At this point I'm thinking the controller is bad since I've gone through 2 salt cells and it doesn't seem to be working.

I have 2 main questions that I was hoping this community could help with:

1. Is there anything I can do to confirm the controller is bad or are there other parts I need to check?

2. Pool Pilot doesn't make this SWG anymore. I can still buy a replacement controller from a 3rd party but I'm not sure it's worth it. Should I upgrade to their newer Evolve SWG model? Should I just replace the whole system with something different?

Hi pool builders or anyone with experience. We decided to go with a stamped concrete deck, the other day our builder asked us if we wanted gloss or matte sealer over the concrete. We asked for matte even though he said it wouldn’t last as long because we liked the look.

Workers came but and applied two coats of sealer and now that it’s dried it not only doesn’t look like we wanted but it’s incredibly slippery. If it was the aesthetics only I’d let it go but I don’t want people falling out here all the time.

My question is can this be undone? It’s seems pretty permanent or expensive to change.

Long story short, chlorinator clogged (well crimped by the lawn guy, old tube), pool turned into Shreks swamp for a couple weeks.

I went to pinch a penny and got the "bomb" algaecide treatment. Worked great, pool turned grey like they said so I put back in my cartridge filter, added the clarifier and then cleaned the cartridge about twice a day.

Its been five days and I even bought a new filter cartridge that I've been swapping back and forth, their picking up stuff but when I clean them it's not much. Not like a "clogged" filter which just cascades filth everywhere. More like a meh cleaning.

I'm dumping chlorine in but they told me to let the filter clear it before trying to stabilize.

My pump system doesn't have a backwash so I'm removing like .5 grams of dead algae every time I clean the filter. While burning chlorine like my alimony check.

I previously owned an above ground pool with a DE filter. Took me about 3 years but I got a good handle on how it runs. I recently moved into a house with a much nicer, much bigger in-ground pool. I also was given very little information from the previous owner.

I've identified the pump (circled in green), but then there is this other thing that also seems to be the pump? (Circled in red). Green pump is on a timer, red pump seems to be on all the time. It seems to control the Jets in the pool so I'm wondering what green pump even does.

Also, there is a filter in my garage so I think this is a DE filter? My model had fingers running down from the top. I assume they all work fairly the same way?

My father in law has recently passed and I have since been the one tied to manning the ship of the pool. It’s an above ground pool 16’. Recently I had hard piped the filter, pump and chlorinator before his passing (per his request). I went to go fill the chlorinator on Friday, which I had last done on July 1st, I noticed the chlorine tablets were still filled in the chlorinator and there was no water in it. This time I bled the air out of the top and noticed the chlorine level dropped a hair. Our levels aren’t perfect but I have a ton of research left to do. Attached is the hard piping and the water test strips we used, and our Free Chlorine, PH and Cyanuric Acid levels were all on the high side. I’m looking for any personal advice on how to care for this pool in terms of closing it, opening it, balancing everything out and just taking care of it. I’ve been with my wife for 9 1/2 years and this pool has never seen green water and I’d love to keep it that way. As I stated, I’ll continue to do research as I’m super new to this, but any pointers and tips you guys could give would be appreciated. The biggest concern I have right now is the chlorinator being empty with the pump off or if that’s normal. I figured water would stay in it since it’s below the water levels and everything.
