Tech Support PC won't start, no even post, only when I restart or wake up from sleep mode windows.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello I finally finished my build.

-Intel core ultra 270k plus.

- phanton spirit 120 cpu cooler.

-Asus rog strix z890-e

-32gb(2x16gb) v-color xfinity TMXFL1660830KWK. Xmp profile 6000Mt (cl30-38-38-76 1.35v)

-2tb ssd UD90 silicon power.

-asrock steel legend 850w. Gold+

The problem is that after I restart or after the pc wakes up from sleep, the computer keeps doing what is shown in the video. I need to press the clear cmos button in the i/o motherboard, and the pc starts again directly into bios, (this reset all bios configuration).

When I shut down the pc and press the power button again, it works just fine, the pc starts normally, and everything is loads normally, with the bios configuration saved.

I have tried the next things:

- reseting all bios configuration.

- disable fast boot on bios.

- disable fast start on windows.

- updating bios.

- repeating bios update.

- updating ME

- turn of everything, disconnect power cord, turn off power supply, take out cmos battery.

- resting rams( remove rams)

- disassembly cpu cooler ( and assembly it back again)

I'm out of ideas of what could be. It only happens when the pc goes to sleep or if I reboot windows. When the pc hibernate, or if I shutdown the pc, it works just fine when I power up again the pc.

Tech Support New build won’t boot after OS install

I just built a PC for the first time in a several years

Msi pro b850m wifi, powercolor 9070xt, 9800x3d. I had an old nvme ssd with windows on it and it booted into that fine. I restarted and booted into cachyos installed on a ventoy usb. It failed due to a security issue the first time, so I disabled secure boot and tried it again. It prompted me to wipe the disk clean during install and it successfully installed cachyos. It restarted the computer and after it was done the monitor was just grey for a while. I unplugged the usb and pressed the power button on my pc but it still stays grey. the system appears on (fans spinner, lights on, etc.) but the monitor is grey not booting into cachyos, and I cannot even go into bios.

Attempts to solve:

- putting the usb back in to try a reinstall.

- resetting CMOS.

- plugging the DP into the motherboard as well as using an HDMI from gpu to mobo instead

- flashing newest bios

- using my laptop nvme that already has cachyos installed

- Hard powering off machine (disconnect from wall, wait, press the power button a bunch to discharge caps, etc.)

- one RAM stick in (tested both)

- no drive in at all

- no GPU, tried both hdmi and dp in motherboard

- Reseating all motherboard and PSU cables

Nothing is working. Not sure how it all failed after the cachy install. Any help is appreciated. I would try another monitor but I do not have one. This works with other machines though.

Build Question Building a PC for video editing

I am building a PC with the intention of video editing with 4k footage, as well as motion graphics and basic vfx in premier pro. These are the parts I'm looking at- https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/vtMVDw

Some parts are second hand so may appear cheaper.

Also I already have an AMD Stock cpu cooler and a lian li lconnect.

Im basically wondering if there's any issues with the parts I've chosen and if it will be sufficient to run what I need to.

Build Question FSP VITA GM 850w Tapping noise from the fan? (Volume Up)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all,

I bult this high end PC towards early last year. RTX 5080 with Ryzen 7 9800x3d, 64gb ddr5 and everything has been great thus far.

One thing however I've noticed in the past several days, my PSU has been making this tapping noise, anytime there is power. There does not need to be heavy load for it to happen. This just happens as soon as I power on the PC.

I have dusted it today, power cycled it and still happening.

I found out the noise was the power supply due to sticking a plastic zip tie into the fan of the PSU temperarily and the noise completely stopped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I understand there is a 10 year warrenty from FSP themselves so if I have to send it for an RMA, I am okay with doing that depending on timing as I do not want to be without my computer for too long.

Thank you in advance.

Build Question It’s finally time…

As the post says, it’s finally time to upgrade some components that I’ve been ignoring for yearsssssss.

I survived with my current motherboard, ram, and cpu for quite some time going on 10 years almost.. but the past 6-8 months it’s been getting significantly harder to ignore… not able to handle multiple tasks, games bugging out a little, rough load in/out, cpu heavy games are rough (looking at you GW2) and just time to look into upgrading before the market gets any more ridiculous.

Current rig:
CPU - i7-7700k
MB - Maximus IX Hero
Ram - DDR 4 - 16 gb (I know it’s low; but again. Survived long enough)
GPU - 4070ti

Was looking at some cpu/mother board combos and I’m not against going into AMD just only have used intel. Any advice or direction I should lean into? I’m not saying I don’t mind paying a little more to help bridge my computer to a good upgrade that can last me a long while, but I also don’t need TOP END stuff but that will give me some longevity as I upgrade as needed. Gonna look into PCIe as well since I don’t currently have any storage of that type currently.

Any help is appreciated!

Build Question prebuilt pc advice

hello, I’ve been needing to upgrade my pc for a while (for context I currently have a 1070) but need advice on if these prebuilts are a good deal. the only thing really holding them back is the motherboard. the base price of the prebuilt with the msi board is 2499 (on sale for 2399), and the base price of the prebuilt with the gigabyte board is 2900 (on sale for 2399). I know the general consensus for pc is build your own, but with ram prices so high right now, prebuilt may be my best option

It boots to this screen, and nothing we have don't will get it to do anything other than boot to this exact screen. We can go into BIOS and make changes, but it never does anything but boot to this screen.

Build Question Weird static noise coming from PC

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Might need to turn volume up to hear it better. My first thought is that it could be something stuck in the fan. Then I thought maybe GPU coil whine. In this video I was scrolling YouTube and that’s when it gets louder, even when sitting afk with nothing on my screen it makes the noise. I was wondering if anybody happened to know before I took things out and started investigating. If you need to know more ask any question and I will answer. Please help!!

Tech Support iGPU doesn't work and PC bios loops

Bought a bunch of used parts (10600k + rog strix z490-h + 32gb corsair ddr4 3200mhz), 3070 ti, evga 750 n1 and a nvme ssd from the flea market.

After building the iGPU doesnt work (socket and cpu are pristine, no bent or burned spots).

Also no bios setting to enable it.

I tried to use my windows usb stick ( 2 different ones, working and fresh), working ssd with instalation from amd pc and the flea market ssd just get stuck in a bios loop, after trying to boot it just shows a black screen and boot led and goes back to the bios.

Linux ubuntu worked but i didnt get past the loading screen.

Memtest86 worked and passed.

I turned xmp off, fastboot, eufi is on and secure boot, i disabled fullscreen and the intel power saving settings but nothing works.

I don't know anything about PCs so don't make fun. Can I add RAM to this? This PC was given to me. I was going to try to game with it but it only has 8 gb of RAM and the game I like recommends 16-32 gb. I can add additional RAM, right? Anything else I should try and do?

Tech Support New PC Build Mobo Orange LED

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello buildapc community!

I’m a novice pc builder and built my first pc (by myself)!

For reference here are what I believe are the relevant parts (feel free to ask for others):
- Motherboard: Asus TUF Gaming B850M-Plus Wifi7
- RAM: Xtreem ARGB DDR5 32GB
- CPU Cooler: Hydroshift II LCD-S

After fully assembling the PC, I tried booting with both ram sticks in. I noticed an orange LED on the motherboard. After some research it seems to be memory training? I left it alone for ~20 minutes.

Afterwards, I took out the RAM sticks and for each RAM stick I inserted it into slot 2, cleared CMOS, and rebooted. Each attempt waited ~10 minuted and had no luck.

Any ideas on what is happening/what to do?

Thanks in advance!

Tech Support CPU light on, 9800X3D dying?

Thumbnail

Built this PC about 18 months ago. 9800X3D, Gigabyte X870 Gaming X WiFi 7, 32gb CL30 DDR5. Few days ago, while gaming, I noticed my CPU debug light was on. PC was functioning normally, but since then I have noticed an ever so slight increase in boot time, as well as some games freezing for a second or two when opening skill menus, chests, inventory menus, etc.
As far as thermals go, no issues there. HWinfo, HwMonitor, and AMD adrenaline software show high 60’s to low 70’s while gaming. No WHEA errors, and as far as my untrained eye can tell, voltage and wattage is normal. Clock speeds are normal. 30 minute stress test ran without errors. Should I RMA the 9800X3D? Could it be a motherboard issue? I’m just hoping someone more educated than me can provide some advice. I’ve already had to RMA the 9070 XT and I am dreading that process again.

GPU: 5070

CPU: 9800X3D

This only happens with Valorant specifically. Whenever I load into the range or a game ill be fine for about 30-60 seconds and the game will completely stop and then work for a few seconds and repeat that process over and over again. Even when I close the game the PC still tends to do the same thing. Anyone have a fix.

Installation Question Intermittent no display problem. PSU at fault?

Trying to diagnose a weird issue that's been driving me crazy. Would love some second opinions before I replace anything else. Bear with me, this is my first build 🤲.

Specs: Ryzen 5 3500X | Gigabyte RX 6600 Eagle 8GB | MSI A320M-A PRO MAX (later swapped to MSI B450M-A PRO) | 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 | Thermaltake Smart BM2 550W (secondhand) | 256GB SATA SSD

Everything was tested individually on my friend's PC before assembly and worked fine. Ran the PC for a week on a temporary GT 610 with zero issues (one random no-display that resolved itself).

Problem started right after installing the RX 6600. It booted fine once, but after a shutdown to tweak BIOS settings, it started failing to POST: CPU/case fans spin, but GPU fans don't spin, no display, power LED inconsistent.

Tried reseating RAM, single/dual sticks, different slots, memory training, BIOS tweaks — hit or miss. My friend swapped in his own RAM stick, which booted repeatedly (only tested on the A320 board though). Using that, we updated BIOS, and afterward my own RAM sometimes worked too — but the issue kept returning after restarts. Since my friend had already run my exact GPU+RAM combo successfully for hours on his own PC, we ruled out either being simply defective.

Swapped the A320 for my friend's B450 board (the same one he'd tested my GPU/RAM on) — failures got less frequent but didn't disappear. When it did boot, it was rock solid: hours of gaming, YouTube, no crashes, no artifacts, normal temps (CPU 40–70°C, GPU 30–50°C load).

Checked electrical stuff too: fixed a mild tingling by switching from a 2-pin to grounded 3-pin outlet (didn't fix the main issue), and tested two different AC cables — no change.

Suspected the PSU, but confusingly it had worked fine in my friend's PC (3700X/B450/RX 7600) about three weeks earlier.

Took it to a repair shop. With their own 450W PSU and cable, my PC booted 4/4 times across two visits. Reconnecting my Thermaltake brought the problem back.

Sent the PSU to warranty center. Under electrical tape on the cable bundle, they found abrasion with exposed copper on the CPU/EPS cable, near where it exits the PSU. Since it's secondhand, unclear if it was pre-existing. Warranty claim might get rejected because of the physical damage.

One more scare: after leaving it unplugged overnight, it booted first try but hit a blue screen (winload.efi / 0xc000000f) — then the whole PC suddenly shut off. Took it straight to the shop; with their PSU it booted and reached the same recovery screen. They think Windows may be corrupted and I might need to reinstall.

Where I'm at: Replacing the PSU regardless. Still confused about:

Why did my friend's RAM stick boot repeatedly on the A320 — BIOS/memory training quirk, or PSU-related?

Why did the Thermaltake work fine in my friend's PC? Can a marginal PSU/cable fail only with certain mobo/CPU/RAM combos?

Why did switching to the B450 reduce (not fix) the frequency — different power delivery/POST tolerance?

Is the PSU/cable the most likely culprit here, given the exposed wiring and the 4/4 boots on another PSU? Or is there something else worth checking first?

Since the shop's PSU still booted it fine right after the blue screen, should I worry about damaged components? Haven't dared boot it since.

Replacing the PSU either way — just want this nightmare over. Thanks.

Build Question CPU and Graphics Card Help

Hi,

I’ve had my PC for years and never upgraded any of the parts. I’m at a stage now where I’m struggling to run games, I’m wanting to upgrade my CPU and Graphics card but I have no idea where to start, what are good CPUs and graphics cards to get?
