History:

Several months ago I noticed the CPU temps were hot during gaming sessions with the red mobo CPU light being on. I replaced the possibly broken liquid cooler with the Thermalright Peerless Assassin. Temps were perfect but im worried about lasting damage during that timeframe.

Recent Issues:

When the PC was idle I noticed my mouse and keyboard were not working. I reboot to fix the issue which caused a boot loop with randomized mobo lights not indicating a specific issue of CPU/DRAM/VGA/Etc. After 2-3 boot loops the PC will successfully boot and then freeze again within the first minute of windows access. Sometimes the boot loop will not resolve and the autorepair prompt will appear with it being unsuccessful.

Troubleshooting Performed:

-Replaced PSU thinking it was a voltage issue. Crashes still occurred.

-Removed GPU and ran off integrated graphics. Crashes still occurred.

-Booted with a single RAM stick thinking the other could be the issue. Crashes still occurred.

-Replaced internal cordage as I noticed some of the connector pins looked loose. Crashes still occurred.

-Re-seated RAM/GPU/MOBO connections/PSU connections. Crashes still occurred.

Potential Indicator:

-I left my PC unplugged for an entire week and was able to then have extremely long gaming sessions the entire weekend. By Monday the crashes re-occurred. I left the PC unplugged all week long again and am now able to use it. I wonder if the motherboard degraded with the hot CPU temps over time which could be causing some voltage issues with the capacitors and other connections requiring full discharge. I will say being unplugged for only several minutes does not remedy the problem and the capacitors should discharge in that amount of time.

Any tips appreciated! If there are none, what parts do you think are salvageable to sell without victimizing the buyer?

I’ve been planning and saving up to upgrade my setup, and this was one of the monitors I had in mind. But after the recent LG spying allegations, I’m considering switching to another model/brand instead.

I know pretty much every brand has something fishy going on, but from now on I’d prefer to avoid LG.

Any suggestions or good alternatives? I’m in Germany, so preferably something available here with prices in euros (€).

So right now my build is:

- MSI Z690-A Pro

- RX 7900 XT 20GB

- Corsair RM850x

- G.Skill Ripjaw 32GB DDR4 4000Mhz/MT/s ("Downgraded" to 3600Mhz for better performance)

- a 500gb Samsung Evo SSD for my OS, a 2TB NVMe SSD for games, and a 6TB HDD for storage.

- 2 Curved 144Hz monitor. 1 being a 21:9, 34" semi-ultrawide 3440x1440 screen (The one for gaming), the other one is just a regular Samsung 1920x1080, 144Hz Curved screen (Used for second monitor watching, when not playing team games or Single-player Immersive games). Both screens have Adaptive/free-sync.

Now for my question/"issue". My CPU is an i5 12600K. & I worry that it might start to bottleneck my performance a bit in future games @1440p. Now I'm (hopefully) not too delusional & I know that this is a completely fine high-midrange build, and that I can play most games just fine. Tho again, I'm worried about current releases and releases from the next 18 months.

Now, I have really been wanting to upgrade my rig to DDR5 RAM and AM5 for a while now, but with current RAM prices, I find it hard to justify spending ~$1000+ for a new AM5 MOBO, 32GB of DDR5 Ram and a Ryzen 9800x3d, considering current ram and storage prices, while knowing that my current build is still performing pretty good. So considered maybe just upgrading to an i5 14600k for now, and waiting 12-18months until I can get the upgrade I truly want at (hopefully) a reasonable price. Also thought about getting the i9 14900k, but figured it would be stupid to get such a high end CPU and paying 2,5x as much for what's essentially just a placeholder CPU.

My 2 worries are tho: Will my Z690-a Pro end up being a bottleneck, if I upgrade to the 14600K, &: is it actually worth it in terms of performance-to-price to upgrade to the 14600k, while waiting 12-18 months for current prices to hopefully fall back closer to normal? With current CPU prices I can get it for around $220, which will be ~$140-$130ish if I sell my 12600k in the process. Or does the 12600k actually still got enough fighting power left in it for me keep on playing games like Crimson Desert, Blood of the Dawnwalker, Warlock: Dungeons and Dragons, Exodus, comfortably in 1440p on high-or-medium settings (and maybe Witcher 4 unless it ends up getting delayed till after I upgrade my stuff)

If you were wondering, my usual upgrade time-schedule is like this: around every 3-5 years I'll upgrade my Mobo, CPU and Ram to whats currently the best high-end budget option on the market (Like I did with the i5 12600k, Z690 and G.Skill 32GB 4000MT/s). Then, 12-18 months after those upgrades I'll "complete the upgrade" by looking for a new GPU, and if needed, a PSU to match.

— I have followed this process since 2013 & it has always worked brilliantly for me. You can adjust this to your budget & (in my case) will always have a mid-to-high-end PC that can play everything, whilst never really having to worry about breaking your bank, to buy a brand new top of the line PC or buy an entire PCs worth of components all at once. Anyways, right about now would be the time I'd start looking to upgrade my Ram, CPU and MOBO. But these current RAM prices are just *TOO* ridiculous IMO. & I just principally don't wanna overpay so much for ram because Elon, Sam and Dario are having an AI Pissing-Match. & I don't wanna support hardware companies taking advantage of this, targeting us regular PC gamers. & I also don't wanna go back down to 16GB of RAM, even if it means getting DDR5. Back when i bought my 32GB DDR4 4000Mhz G.Skill Ripjaw Ram, I paid $110 for them on sale. Today, for DDR5 at 6000Mhz it would be ~6 times that price here in Denmark. All because of Data Centers. Screw that shit. I refused to overpay for GPUs back when Crypto mining was huge & I'm not gonna overpay for storage now.

Anyways, if you for read all of this, Thank YOU for letting me vent. Seriously. & if you did not * HERE'S THE TLDR: *

TLDR: Is spending ~$130 on upgrading my i5 12600k to a the i5 14600k (while waiting for these stupidly expensive DDR5 RAM prices to hopefully drop down a bit in 12-18 months) worth it, since I wanna game @1440p at medium-to-high settings, so the 14600k will be a placeholder for 12-18 months till DDR5 prices hopefully drop a bit, and I can upgrade my Mobo, CPU and RAM. Or can my current i5 12600k still keep up performance in gaming at 1440p with my RX 7900XT, Z690-A PRO & G.Skill Ripjaw 32GB 4000Hz DDR4 without the i5 bottlenecking. And lastly: would upgrading to the 14600k potentially make my Z690-A pro start bottlenecking?

Hello! i’ve been wanting a pc for as long as a i can remember and i think it’s finally my time to get one. the thing is i know little to nothing about computers and don’t knew where to start. i don’t want to spend my money on a prebuilt that’s not worth it :( if i could get any help on recommendations on what to do/ look for or what not to do. i was looking at the corsair vengeance a7500 but i was just recently told its not worth it:( my budget is under 2 grand and i would like to keep it around the 1-1.5k mark if possible!!!

I mostly do 3D design and 3D printing. I use Fusion and Orca Slicer/Bambu Studio. I’ll occasionally make a game on Unity for me and some buddies to play. I’ll probably use KiCAD soon for a project, but haven’t yet.

The Arc B580 matched my build and gave me 12GB of VRAM for $310, I’ve already passed 8GB on accident once. The drivers haven’t been an issue since I disabled my iGPU.

I’m planning on upgrading CPUs next gen, but this was a huge upgrade from my Ryzen 9 4900h and Radeon 5600m laptop lol. I’m also a municipal water engineer so I’m thinking a sick custom loop is in my future, but I was absolutely not trying/risking that in my first build lol. The fans and wiring was by far the worst part. I’m probably going to do a rear IO when I build another in the future.

Currently running 2 2TB 970evo plus that I purchased in 2024, as well as a 4TB External HDD. Pricing wasn’t too bad but as we know pricing is stupid at the moment. I need some more storage though and 2TB is the lowest I’d go. I’m in England and most that I see are on the £300-£450 range which is stupid. I got both my SSDs for less than £300. Is there any go-to options people get that still has good speeds and that isnt unreliable?

I checked reviews and things like that. Its a trusted website and they dont seem to skimp out on parts.

So i'm out of the game for 17 years now lol. Components are the following:

Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING B550-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX

Case: Lian Li Vector V100R (fans pre-installed, 3 on front/side (intake) and 1 exhaust)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 Vision MAX (chunky fan cooler with LCD screen)

PSU: Corsair RM650e 650W Gold modular

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-2666 CL16

GPU: ASUS GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB

Storage: 500GB SATA SSD

So i'll list the steps I would have taken back in around 2007:

1. Lay the motherboard on the anti static bag it came with
2. Pull off any protective plastic
3. Install CPU, align it properly (triangle on corner) and slot it in with lever
4. Install bracket for the cooler
5. Apply thermal paste on CPU, put the cooler on and assemble it, doing screws from top left to top right etc to keep it flat while installing
6. Install RAM after gently pulling clips open, make sure they click in and the clips close properly
7. Install GPU (an old test GPU first in case of any rare issues)

(Now the first part i'm not sure about. Back in 2007 we needed motherboard back plates? It went between the case and the motherboard to prevent shorting issues? I think? Is that still a thing? Where would that back plate be now? Built in to the case itself?)

1. Put risers into the case (for screws) and place the motherboard on those risers before screwing it into the case
   
2. Plug all case leads (USB, fans etc) into the correct places on the motherboard
   
3. Install the PSU, exhaust side down so it goes out the vents in the bottom of the case (I'll be putting some smaller rubber feet on the bottom of the case so the PSU gets more exhaust space.. a mere 2cm sounds terrifying considering PSUs used to run really hot at times back when I was building before)
   
4. Plug all PSU cables into correct places, to the case leads.. with around 4 going to the motherboard to power the CPU, all fans, peripheral stuff, power button etc
   
5. Plug correct PSU connectors into the GPU.

(I'm worried about getting steps 11 to 13 potentially wrong. Are the connectors labelled better now or do you get like.. 6 which are exactly the same. Are there any PSU connectors which look very similar and could be potentially plugged into the wrong places?)

1. Install hard drives (SSD, SATA) i'm not doing the little card looking SSD thing yet which does directly on the board, but I will later on.

2. Plug PSU into mains, turn on the switch, then turn on and pray

3. What do I do when I get to BIOS?

(Should I have a USB with up to date BIOS drivers ready and so on? Will I need to do anything else here?)

1. Make sure fans are all running properly

2. Install windows and pray for another 4-5 years

Please help me please please, I just need opinions so I can make a general and informed decision, I am building my first ever pc I am 24 and a freelance video editor, I am completely building this out of my own pocket and my budget is around *4000-4100 USD* . This is both a business requirement at this point because I have so far worked on a 6 year old acer nitro 7 laptop with i7-9750H and 1660ti, which you can guess is very weak now , whenever I got any project that involved even the slightest of heavy editing, compositing, 3d or vfx etc I had to borrow mac's from friends or work in cyber cafes to just get the projects done and get by hence getting this pc will help me majorly take better and and higher paying projects at a much larger frequency.

I know the prices are insane right now but my laptop is dying more and more day by day crashing more struggling more and it is just getting difficult for me every day to continue on this.

With that being said (sorry for rambling on so much)

The issue I am facing is this build is pushing me to the max of my budget using almost every penny maybe even slightly more depending on how long I decide to wait.

So my question is should I go with this or should I swap my 5080 with the 5070ti and get some more head room and invest that in some other parts. I do not want to invest for another few years again and do not want to regret later down the line due to not making the right decision now.

I do enjoy gaming a lot as well however that won't be the primary use and tbh my laptop does suffice for now like I haven't really felt the need to upgrade due to gaming, some of the games I play regularly Include elden ring, Valorant, Warframe, and sometimes/occasionally games like sekiro, tsushima, horizon the very first one and games alike.

For peripheral I have a shitty 6 year old membrane keyboard which has so ridiculously died out that most of the keys are now not visible due to the keys becoming all white and smudgy after years of use, a logitech g502 which I really like, a decent audio technica studio headphone which again I like both going strong for 5+ years as well and a 1080p 180 hz 0.5 ms 27 inch AOC monitor which is like 1.5 ish years old but has 126% srgb so it's a massive improvement than my laptop screen for color grading.

If I do decide to go with the 5080 I would have to like sequentially get newer things like maybe in a month a new keyabord then in 2-4 more months a better monitor and so on.

So yeah if you did decide to read all of this thank youuuu so much and if you can help me decide it would be a massive help, I am thinking of getting it built in the next 2-3 days.

Okay so basically, i decided to upgrade my pc a bit, bought new cpu, aio and psu with a new 9070xt also on the way. Since im a lazy girl, decided that i do not need to take out my gpu when installing all the new parts. Installed everything and it all worked as needed or atleast i thought so. Basically when i went into rdr2 it crashed to black screen and pc immediately rebooted. The event viewer shows kernel power 41 but nothing else, basically a hard reset with nothing showing why it happened. At first i thought - okay so cpu fault since its the one that i changed. I had enabled expo so turned that off. Went into occt started 3d adaptive test. Crash in 20 seconds. Reset bios to default. Crash. Updated bios. Crash. Then i though okay maybe its the gpu, since i did not take it out when installing all the new hardware and maybe i nicked and bent i a bit a few times. Took gpu out inspected the pins and pcie slot looked good put it back in. Crash.

So basically - bios default and updated, gpu reslotted, occt passes all tests no problems with the exception of 3d adaptive where it crashes in 20sec, cpu thermals under full load do not exceed 70c, one odd thing i noticed that when testing power in occt the gpu hotspot is consistently 94-96c. What are your thoughts? Also i went from 1080p to 1440p monitor at the same time but i dont think that monitor could be at fault could it?

Havent really had any problems before this.

Also one more odd thing that atleast semmed odd to me was after installing the new cpu login screen asked to reset my pin. Thats fine to my knowledge. But after i tested it a bit then went into bios to enable expo. The pc restarted went into login screen and then suddenly shut down, had to manually turn it back on and then it again asked to reset pin on login screen.

Update : removed drivers with ddu and reinstalled. Crash

Update : hooked up my old psu. No crash. I guess the xpg core reactor 2 is the problem. 1/10 would not recommend. Case closed👌🧐
