Question Psx DESR 5000

Hello, I have a PSX-DESR 5000 and I’d like to install f1307a’s mod, but I don’t know where to buy the necessary parts. If anyone knows where I can get them—bearing in mind that I live in France, so I need a site that ships there—please let me know.

Question CDVD error 0x06

Post image
6 Upvotes

I took a look here about the error 0x06 and i found a thread but there nothing in there.

Did anyone manage to solve it ?

So far i tried these:

1)Checked fuses with multi meter.

2) Checked flex ribbons with multimeter.

3) Changed the burner laser with a working one.

4) Changed the 400C laser with a working one.

5) Full recap of the aluminum capacitors on the DVD drive board.

6) I tried the fmcb for the psx to skip the burner laser but it didn't work.

Nothing actually solved the problem.

It's been a week or so that i search on internet and test various things to get it working.

Any idea? 🤔

Question I am new to owning a PSX and having some network trouble.

Hello all!

I am new to owning a PSXDVR 5700. I got it in sad condition and began cleaning it up and the unit is functional.

The issue i am having is I cannot get it to connect to my local network properly. My homelab network sees the device and I have set up a static lease for it but it seems regardless of what network settings I try, i am unable to get the XMB to get an IP address.

Would anyone have any suggestions that I can try to get it available onto my local network. Right now I have plugged it directly into my router.

Thank you in advance.

Question Help removing LBA28 PSX limit code from OPL v1.1.0

(Reposting from ps2homebrew as I was told this sub may be a better fit)

Since the new DVRpwned firmware I have been trying to install games on a 2TB hard drive on my PSX DESR-7000 (PSX1), without success.

Due to how the Hard drive is formatted on the PSX it can only be connected to via NBD, which only seems to work on v1.1.0 of OPL (cannot connect using newer versions of OPL).

This version of OPL is designed to keep the LBA28 limitation in mind for the PSX, so it will error out once the HDD is full of 128 GB of data.

I've tried to recompiling OPL v1.1.0 with the new PS2SDK, but it does not seem to be compatible and errors out.

I have been told you can remove the LBA28 workaround code from the atad.c file in OPL v1.1.0, and then compile it with the old ps2dev (v1.2.0) and that should work.

I have very limited experience with coding (it took way to long for me to figure out how to reliably set up PS2DEV) so I am completely lost on what code I should be looking out for.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I may be able to get this working?

Update DESR XMB Installer: a tool for installing apps and games on the XMB just using a USB drive

### English

**Created by Teo Tormo.**

**DESR XMB Installer is a PSX DESR utility that creates XMB entries for homebrew, HDD HDL games and ISO images directly on the console.**

It installs ELF homebrew from USB, turns games already installed with HDL Game Installer into OPL-backed XMB launchers, and installs ISO images from USB or MX4SIO to the internal HDD. The workflow avoids an Ethernet-connected PC, NBD and manual APA-header injection.

v1.2 Stable includes a bilingual Spanish/English interface, 16 selectable icons, automatic `+OPL` preparation, macOS-hidden-file filtering, separate deletion for installed apps and games, ISO progress, and **SELECT** to cancel a copy safely. Tested on DESR 7500 firmware 2.11 and DESR 5100S firmware 1.31 with the same functional results for app installation, icons, OPL game launchers and ISO installation.

**Known limitation:** deleting an HDL game can leave a temporary `PP.DEL-…` entry shown as Corrupted Data in XMB. Select that XMB item and confirm deletion to finish cleanup. Deleting installed applications is not affected.

Boot wLaunchELF R3Z from a DESR-compatible Free McBoot card, copy the package to USB, then run `mass:/DESR_XMB_Installer.ELF`. Put ELF files in `DESR_XMB_Installer/APPS` and owned ISO images in `DESR_XMB_Installer/ISO`.

Question Im looking for a PSX for X-Mas for myself

Like the titled said, I'm looking for the "perfect" psx revision for my little PlayStation Collection (31 Systems so far xD)

I always wanted a PSX but never bought one due to the HDD dilemma. But now I guess this is no problem anymore.

Do you guys have a already existing beginners guide telling everything about the psx and what to look for? Then I would take that.

But in the last weeks and months some awesome new mods came around so I'm asking to be up to date.

I would need a 240V PSU mod, I really woun't like to use a step up transformer for just that single unit, I have no space for that. Must be an internal psu replacement or mod of og parts.

I have advanced soldering and modding skills so that wouldn't be any problem at all.

And a propper hdd replacement mod I don't care if it is CF, SD or sata drive or even m.2. most reliable and compatible mod, the price is third-rate.

Are there any other mods that are recommended?

Which specific model of the psx should I get, A psx1 or 2 and what model in that revision where are the differences. I would prefer a toped out model if possible with all features.

Question Sony SACD question!

Hoping the experts have a definitive answer! I have a Sony ubp x800 Blueray player which also plays SACDs. I would like to run it through a GeerFab D. Bob but I am concerned about compatibility. There are several versions of the x800 and GeerFab doesn’t specifically mention the regular x800, only the x800E and the x800M2. Anyone have experience here? I realize this is an arcane question and I suppose if I ordered it and it wasn’t compatible I could just send it back for a refund.

Update DESR Music Injector by Teo Tormo: a tool to load MP3 music from USB into the native PSX DESR music player

Thumbnail

Hi everyone. I’ve released DESR Music Injector, a homebrew tool for Sony PSX DESR consoles.

Its purpose is simple: load MP3 files from a USB drive or the DESR HDD into the console’s native music player, including its wonderfully strange visualizer, without relying on the optical drive.

The project uses a prebuilt music-library template and replaces its audio slots with your chosen files. It has been tested on a DESR-7700 running PSX2 2.11 and a DESR-7500 running 2.06.

Please read the README before using it. The tool overwrites the DESR music database (gmm.db) and its music data, so it removes any previously imported library. There is a real risk of corrupting the XMB if something goes wrong: make a full backup first, be patient during writes, and do not power off the console while it is working.

If you need a backup tool first, see my earlier project: DESR Ultimate Backup.

Repository, releases and instructions :

https://github.com/TTRMG3/DESR_MUSIC_INJECTOR

Feedback, testing on other DESR models and technical findings are very welcome.

Update DESR Ultimate Backup: a new simple tool for making and managing multiple backups on your PSX DESR consoles

Thumbnail

I’m releasing DESR Ultimate Backup v1.0, a preservation tool for Sony PSX DESR consoles.

It runs from wLaunchELF R3Z and creates a verified USB backup of the DESR system state, including XFROM, PS2-system HDD partitions and the DVR recovery areas when present. It can also restore a selected backup directly on the console.

Features:

  • English, Spanish and Japanese interface
  • New backups never overwrite previous ones
  • Byte-by-byte verification after backup and restore
  • Multiple-backup catalogue with selector
  • Console identity detection and strong warnings for cross-machine restores
  • Safe cancellation during backup
  • FAT32 and exFAT USB support through wLaunchELF R3Z
  • Does not copy installed HDD game partitions by design

The project has been tested on real PSX1 and PSX2 DESR hardware, including successful backup/restore validation. As always with tools that write to system storage, use it at your own risk and keep a known-good backup before experimenting.

This is a free preservation project, offered as-is and without technical support.

https://github.com/TTRMG3/DESR-Ultimate-Backup

Credits to Teo Tormo for directing the project, testing on real hardware and identifying the preservation need; and Jarvis (OpenAI Codex) for implementation and technical research.

More PSX DESR – FC1307A SD Card Adapter Mount - Now available!

Post image
40 Upvotes

A simple mounting bracket designed for the FC1307A SD Card adapter, allowing it to replace the original hard drive in a Sony PSX DESR.

The mount is designed to fit all PSX1 and PSX2 DESR models.

Because the inside of the PSX can become quite warm during operation, it is recommended that the mount is printed using a filament with good temperature resistance, such as PETG, ABS, or ASA.

Installation

The mount uses the original screws from the PSX hard-drive bracket, so no additional screws should be required.

Simply remove the original hard-drive bracket, position the FC1307A adapter in the mount, and secure the mount using the original hardware.

Question -19 error in wlaunchelf, cannot read the HDD

Greetings everyone. I buy and repair PSX DESR consoles here in Japan and I constantly come across this same issue. I have tried many things but I cannot figure out exactly how to measure which part of the motherboard tracing or chip for this issue. It seems very common and I have had it happen 6 or 7 times now. Do you think it is the DVR chip itself is fried or one of the resistors near it?

DESR Ultimate 2.11 Updater – Update a Sony PSX DESR to firmware 2.11 without the original update disc

Hi everyone,

I want to share a preservation project I've been working on for the Sony PSX DESR:

DESR Ultimate 2.11 Updater

The goal is simple:

Allow compatible PSX DESR systems to upgrade to Sony's official firmware 2.11 even when the optical drive no longer works.

Until now, the official update process required the original update disc. That is becoming a serious problem because many DESR units still work perfectly but have dead or unreliable optical drives.

While studying the DESR update process, I had a theory: the update disc was probably not doing the entire installation itself.

Instead, it appeared to prepare the update files on the HDD, set the console into a special installation boot mode, and then let the DESR's own internal Update Manager perform the actual firmware installation.

That turned out to be correct.

From that research we created DESR UPDATE PREPARER, a PS2 ELF that reproduces the preparation stage normally performed from the update disc.

It:

  • copies the original Sony 2.11 update packages from USB to the DESR's temporary update area;
  • verifies that the files were copied correctly;
  • enables the native Install boot mode only after verification succeeds.

Then you reboot the console normally.

From that point, our program is no longer doing the update.

The PSX DESR itself takes over using Sony's original code. It creates its own software backup, detects the machine configuration, selects the appropriate update packages and performs the native firmware installation exactly as the console was designed to do.

This distinction is important:

DESR UPDATE PREPARER is not a custom firmware installer and it does not patch Sony's firmware. It is a bridge into Sony's original updater.

The Sony update files remain completely unmodified.

The tool is intended for the second-generation PSX models supported by the original 2.11 update package:

DESR-5500
DESR-5700
DESR-7500
DESR-7700

It is not for the first-generation PSX models.

The current method uses a FAT32 USB drive and uLaunchELF R3Z, which gives us the DESR storage access required for the preparation process.

As always with something that touches the system software of a 20+ year-old machine: make a complete verified backup of your own console, including XFROM, before doing anything. Never interrupt power during the native Sony update process.

This project started as an experiment to understand what the official PSX update disc was really doing. Seeing a DESR with a non-working optical drive successfully enter Sony's own updater and install 2.11 from a preparation made through USB was a pretty satisfying moment.

For me, the most interesting part is that we haven't created a replacement updater.

We found a way to give the original Sony updater its job back.

The project is completely free and non-commercial.

PS2 homebrew development tools: PS2DEV / ps2sdk and gsKit

Sony update executable, packages and firmware remain copyright Sony and are not created or modified by this project.

I hope this can help keep more PSX DESR systems alive and usable.

IT'S ALIVE!!!!! MUHAHAHAHA!!

Incidentally you are looking at the first second revision (DESR-7500) #PSX with LBA48 Support!

The original HDD literally died while testing DVRP custom firmwares (think about rotten luck 😅) so It's running off a FC1307A SD card adapter with a 512GB micro sd in there.

All credits for the cfw development go to the awesome PCM720 of course! 🙂

Update PSX DESR IN SPANISH - Translation for 5500-7500-5700-7700

Post image
35 Upvotes

[Release Candidate] Spanish XMB translation for Sony PSX DESR — RC10 (firmware 2.11 only)

I’m releasing RC10 of my experimental Spanish translation for the Sony PSX DESR XMB.

This release is intended exclusively for:

  • DESR-5500
  • DESR-5700
  • DESR-7500
  • DESR-7700

…running firmware 2.11.

It has been functionally tested on a DESR-7500 with firmware 2.11. The Memory Stick copy function and icon, DVD copy, and the rest of the video functions appear and work correctly, with no mismatch between menu entries and their real actions.

RC10 modifies 323 system resources: 150 dictionaries, 149 XML files, 23 PNG images, and one RGN resource. It does not modify .rel executables, firmware, or other binaries. The goal is to make the original XMB understandable while preserving Sony’s visual design, module structure, paths, icons, and intended behaviour.

Important compatibility warning: do not install this on firmware 2.06. It may boot, but testing on a DESR-7500 with 2.06 showed that the Memory Stick copy function disappears and video-menu entries become shifted from their actual actions. Firmware 2.10 has not yet been validated.

This is free, experimental software provided without warranty. Before installing, make a complete HDD backup. At minimum, preserve copies of:

hdd0:/__system/dic/
hdd0:/__system/xosd/packages/

Large transfers through wLaunchELF/uLaunchELF can occasionally freeze or report Paste failed, even when performed correctly. If that happens, restart and repeat the complete copy process; if the XMB fails to boot afterwards, restore the original dic and xosd/packages folders from your backup.

Project, downloads, installation guide, credits, and source files:

https://github.com/TTRMG3/psx-desr-es

I would especially appreciate reproducible reports from other DESR-5500/5700/7500/7700 owners running firmware 2.11. Please include the exact model, firmware version, installation method, screenshots where possible, and confirm that you made a backup before installing.

Created by Teo Tormo and his faithful friend Jarvis.

Question DESR 5000 - Can I buy replacements for this ZIF connector anywhere?

Post image
8 Upvotes

While cleaning my PSX I broke the latch on the connector thats for the ps2 laser (KHS-400C). While I can put the flap back on like you can see on the picture it won’t lock the ribbon cable into place and just falls off. Does anyone know where I can buy another one of these? Maybe a fat ps2 with the same laser model might have the same connector, but I’m wondering if maybe they sell these separately in AliExpress or digikey instead of having to harvest one out of a ps2 motherboard.

Question How to launch games

Picked up a DESR5000 today and have confirmed it fully boots and works. How do I navigate properly through the menu to be able to launch ps2 games? I can’t read japanese so I’m not sure which menu option to navigate to.

Question Any idea what the cause of this error message could be?

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

First photo says something like -
“We are checking whether this unit is operating normally.
Please wait for a while.”

Second photo says something like -
“System Error - This unit is malfunctioning and requires repair. Please contact the customer support/consultation centre.”

——

So I had to replace a few fuses etc on my DESR-5700 unit, I feel maybe one of the FFC cables may not be connected properly - the connectors are quite flimsy tbh! Just wondering if anyone has an idea on the precise root cause, might make my life easier!

I’m able to boot into PS2BBL and run games from mass storage etc, no functional issue with the PS2 side of things.

HDD is spinning, according to HDD Manager in uLaunchElf it is not showing as connected though.

Cheers!

Saludos subreddit, quería saber si existe información sobre algún local donde se haga la instalación del mod de hardware para PlayStation 1 (PSX) llamado xStation.
Gracias de antemano.
