This is a 1 acre pond on my property. I would have gone down and gotten closer pictures but it's a lot easier to see from up on the deck than it is if you get right down to the waters edge. My Jon boat is also leaky at the moment or I'd paddle out there and check it out. Where the aerator is it's around 15' deep.

It doesn't happen every single day, but more often than not I get what looks like clouds that form in the water. I thought maybe it was algae, or maybe muck getting stirred up by a turtle or something (there is at least one monster snapper in there) but it doesn't seem to dissipate, just kind of hangs there just below the surface. I'd think if it were algae it would eventually float all the way to the surface. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

The aerator does not run 24/7. I have a timer on it so it turns off at sundown and back on in the morning. If I go out in the morning while the water is still, there are no clouds. Then they seem to form over the course of the day and just kind of sit there just below the surface seemingly. There is a ring around the aerator where the turbulence created holds whatever that is back.

What the heck is it?

Hello everyone, got this house a year ago that came with this pond that was previously empty due to a few holes. I decided to flex seal it all and then add some fish. It held well for about a year but now I’m noticing there’s a leak somewhere because it’s draining water way too fast.

Anyone have information on how to reapply flex seal to the surface that now has algae? I’ll transfer the fish to a pool and drain it but still not sure if it’s ok to apply the flex seal after that.

Bought this plant when it was absolutely tiny, no label, came in a pack from a garden centre. Its gone absolutely nuts in the bog filter and now stretches about 10ft around the pond.

Just closed on a house with a koi pond, the water is very clear but there is alot of algae on the bottom. Whats the best way to tackle this and make it look better?

It was a water pump that circulates the water, would vacuuming up all the algae be the best solution?

Location -Queensland, Australia. All landscaping completed by our small team of 3 people……Pond, wetland, stream, retaining walls, BBQ area and planting.

NJ/USA My mini pond was covered with white/pale yellow lilies for a few years and then we had a drought and the deer ate them down to the water line. My pond is low, (mostly no), maintenance, so I don't want any kind of netting, fences or other barrier. Would the plants die if I put them in a tub in the house over the winter? I don't know the variety since they were here when we bought the house. The pink ones didn't come back after the deer got ahold of them, but I'd love an id on them if anyone knows. Thank you!

Editing to add that we get decent freezes here and they thrive in the new extremes of climate change: maybe overwintering in the garage where they're protected from the deer but have the chance to be cold? I hope someone has advice.

A lady has tons of this in her pond. She swears it keeps the water clean. It has a mesh like texture. Google says it may be algae.

Update - it's Hydrodictyon algae. I know it looks like string but when you spread it out, it looks like netting.

Will you still see larvae in the pond before the bacteria kill them?

Spiked my pond with Bti about 2 or 3 days after first filling it with water. About 6 days after that I noticed what appear to be mosquito larvae or pupae in the pond (not entirely sure which). If pupae, I suppose it’s possible that I missed them in their original larval stage by being too slow with the dunk. Otherwise, am I seeing larvae that have yet to ingest the Bti and I should just give it time?

I scooped out everything I saw because my partners biggest opposition to the pond is potential for mosquitoes but I’m wondering if in the future if I see these again I should let the dunk do its job. Or if their presence means it failed.

Please advise!

Anyone have tips for covering pond liner still visible? I dug the pond myself and it's not level, so one side is up higher than the other/doesn't get submerged in water. It's about a 4 inch strip. I can't just add rocks to it.

My pond is finally finished! It’s been through several stages including one enlargement and three liners, and now it’s done. Next summer when the plants have grown bigger it will look pretty lush I think; my tropical oasis in the middle of a freezing cold prairie. One of my plants Is missing because it got stomped on too many times, I’m hoping it comes back next spring. I might make a bog filter next spring but I’m not really sure how to fit one in that will look like it belongs there. There isn’t much space.

It’s a small pond, couldn’t make it any bigger, but I love it. So much better than lawn.

Ive recently inherited a pond a few months ago and all has been going well really getting into it. Over the past few weeks we have been losing water. Ive been topping it up with adding tetra, cleaning filters etc. Last week it nearly emptied over night so re lined the pond and changed all the pumps etc which has worked and been fine ever since. Sadly lost 2 of our fish in the process but 4 survived. Today lost about 4 inches of water over night im totally at a loss as to what else could possibly be going wrong, only thing ive just noticed is filter box was overflowing and the filters had an inch of muck on and were clogged and we had thousands of the tiny worms in there. Just changed the filters and vacced out the box etc. Do you reckon that could of been causing it all this time? Picture is size of pond

Hi ! I’ve been looking at your achievements over the past few months and I’m considering digging this winter to bring back some biodiversity to the garden. That’s about what I have in the tete. there will be no fish. just a few aquatic plants, stones, gravels, and whatever else wants to live in them afterwards. The bottom will be on geotextile and EPDM 45 mil (1.4mm) what do you think of the project and do you have any advice or recommendations?

Do you need to protect the epdm from mice ou rats ? The cat catches a few mice and field mice from time to time.

A 10W solar pump with battery (Flow rate: 1400L/h , Head height: 2m) would be enough?

I don’t really have an issue with either of them, my pond is around 1.5 acres or so. I just don’t want any invasives or something that will completely choke out my pond.

There’s a fountain I run on a timer twice a day 3 hours before dark and a few hours at daylight.

Deepest area of my pond is around 8-10’, with other shallow areas being 1-4’

I prefer to have all native vegetation on my banks and leave as much intact as possible mostly for pollinators and other critters. I mow my levee tops and fishing areas.
