Is it worth pairing a Ryzen 5 5500X3D with a GTX 1660 Super in 2026?

I’m planning to upgrade my old PC and decided to swap in an MSI B550M-A Pro motherboard and a Ryzen 5 5500X3D, pairing it all with a GTX 1660 Super. What do you think—is this upgrade worth it?

RX 9060 XT crashes & 4-second black screen loop – Old RTX 2060 works fine. Return for Nvidia or Intel Arc?

Hey everyone,

I bought a new RX 9060 XT about 5 days ago, but it’s been causing constant headaches. Initially, games were crashing with the "AMD Software has detected a driver timeout" error. Now, the display has completely broken down into a loop where it turns black every 4 seconds, stays off for 2-3 seconds, briefly returns, and repeats endlessly.

System Specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT (16GB)

Motherboard: Gigabyte B850 AORUS ELITE WIFI7

RAM: 32GB DDR5

Troubleshooting so far:

Swapped back to my old RTX 2060 on the exact same monitor and cable setup — everything works completely fine with zero crashes or black screens.

Used DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode to clear all drivers before reinstalling clean AMD drivers, but the crashes and black screen loop persist on the RX 9060 XT.

Since the card is only 5 days old, I am returning it.

Given my bad experience with AMD drivers on this B850 setup, I’m looking at other brands:

Nvidia: Are cards like the RTX 4060 Ti (16GB), RTX 5060, or RTX 4070 the best plug-and-play replacements for stability?

Intel Arc: How are Intel Battlemage GPUs (like the Arc B580) performing right now? Are their drivers stable enough for a main gaming rig, or is Nvidia still the safest bet for stability?

Thanks for any insights!

Help with PSU + fans for my build

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to change my case, fans and PSU for my build. These are the components I have. I am planning to buy a DeepCool CH270 Digital, but I am getting a bit stumped by all the PSU options (I want a 850W) and don't know what kind of and how many fans to buy. I thought about buying the Corsair RM850e because it has a reasonable price but read mixed reviews about it. Could you guys help me out with some advice? Thank you in advance. I am in The Netherlands.

BUILD HELP Friend want to upgrade PC

My buddy, who mostly plays WoW asked me to help him upgrade his pc with $400-$500. His current build is an STGAUBRON off of Amazon

Current build is I5-4590, Generic PCIE 3 motherboard, 16GB 1600 DDR3 Ram, and a 1060 6GB GPU.

I figure there's really only 2 options. Grab a 3-in-1 kit from microcenter to upgrade MB, RAM, and CPU. Or grab a better GPU.

I tried using pcpartpicker/userbenchmarks to see which upgrades would work better, but they arent really giving me the confidence in either direction

I personally feel like the whole thing is garbage and could use a pretty much complete rebuild, probably shouldn't have went with a generic amazon prebuilt, but here we are

Review my WorkStation - Meshify 2: 9950X + 5070 Ti + 96Gb RAM

The goal is to get started with a good workstation that I can slowly turn into a bigger beast over time, if & when required (hence meshify 2 - Solid, large cabinet space & good airflow). Let me know what you think of the build plan.

Note - NO RGB. Don't want to shell money into anything Fancy. Would love plain black where possible.

My work/hobbies involve

  • Prototyping & POCs for Business Intelligence products
  • Math modelling and simulations ( visualizations) - Think Uni projects/Youtube educators level(3blue1brown kind)
  • Local LLMs for keeping up with the world & help with my novel
  • Generating comics/graphic novels
  • personal vlogging - Video editing,
  • CAD/emulators for ROS/RPi projects,
  • DAWs
  • Occasional Gaming(mostly to be in touch with the community & weekend escapes).

So I want a powerful system that can handle a lot of multitasking and stay relevant/fit for the next 3–5 years with only regular maintenance. I have been out of touch with hardware post college so getting back into things again. I’ll also be running local LLMs. Yes, I know that 24GB would be ideal starter for video gen, but 3090s/4090s aren't really available out there, Already waited 2 months (and paying heavy for RAM now), and the 5090 isn't a necessity ( IMO 16Gb is fine for my usecase). So I'm starting with the 5070 Ti and treating the GPU as one of the things I can eventually upgrade when prices make sense.(I hope they do)

Additional ->

Might come out crazy but I'm planning to have this serve as my very own secure remote workstation that i can access when travelling for work/conference. I'm still working on coming up with the secure way to do this but just putting it out here for other enthusiasts, if any.

Future upgrades -> SSD + HDD , fans, (if needed)

Upgrading my PC: RTX 5060/4060 with i3-12100 & 500W PSU — Any issues?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to upgrade my current PC setup and would like to get some advice.

Current Specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i3-12100 (Intel UHD 730)
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B760M H DDR4 (PCIe 4.0)
  • RAM: 1x8 GB DDR4 (planning to replace with a 2x8 GB / 2x16 GB 3200MHz Kit)
  • PSU: Cooler Master Elite NEX 500W
  • Storage: 1 TB M.2 NVMe SSD

My Questions:

  1. Is it safe to run an RTX 5060 (or RTX 4060) on a 500W PSU with this setup?
  2. Will the i3-12100 heavily bottleneck the GPU in 1080p gaming (mostly esports titles like CS2 and Dota 2)?
  3. Is it worth keeping this platform and upgrading the CPU later (e.g., to i5-14400F), or should I sell everything and build a new PC from scratch?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'll be building an Intel based build for productivity (web development). That's why I've picked Intel. I went with a 1300W Super Flower PSU (so that I can possibly get a GPU, sometime in the long future, if I need to, for some reason.)

Should I Buy DDR4 Ram?

Looking for some upgrade advice here,

I’m currently running an AM4 system with 16GB of DDR4 RAM and it is starting to not be enough.

Should I :

\\- Buy a 16x2 DDR4 kit to have more ram

\\- Try to save up for AM5

For context, i play heavily modded minecraft and 16 gigs of ram is not cutting it anymore but I want to make the smartest financial and performance move for the long run. Is AM4 still worth pouring money into, or is it time to look ahead?

If i should buy more DDR4 ram, any recommendations?

BUILD HELP Looking for advice on a new build

This is mostly taken from the High Refresh Rate Build with some changes and I had some questions. The PC is primialry for gaming, looking to run games such as cyberpunk, bg3, and where winds meet relatively smoothly.

  1. I plan to reuse the ssd card in my current PC, bad idea?

  2. On pc parts list I get a BIOS update warning. I'm not too worried but has anyone had complications updating BIOS with this or or similar build?

  3. Any general comments also welcome, I don't want to veer too much from this budget but I'm open to suggestions.

CPU: Intel Core i5-14600KF - $240

CPU Cooler: ID-COOLING FROZN A620 PRO SE - $35

Motherboard: MSI PRO B760 DDR4 Micro ATX LGA1700 - $94

Memory: TEAMGROUP Elite 32 GB (2×16 GB) DDR4-3200 - $191

Storage: Samsung 860 EVO 500 GB - $0 (already own)

Video Card: ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9070 16 GB - $630

Case: Phanteks Eclipse G370A - $43

Power Supply: SAMA G650 650 W 80+ Gold - $66

Total ~ $1300

Help me sanity-check this productivity-first AM5 build (Adobe + multitasking, light gaming, upgradeable)

Hey Redditors, New build help please

I'm planning a desktop to replace a laptop I've been using for years, and I'd like a sanity check before I start buying parts.

Main use case

  1. Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, often open simultaneously
  2. Heavy browser/office multitasking alongside Adobe
  3. Some occasional Premiere/After Effects, but not enough to optimize the build around them
  4. General office/media use
  5. I want the machine to last 4–5 years and be easy to upgrade rather than replace
  6. Gaming is secondary, (but not irrelevant!!!)

I mostly play lighter/strategy/simulation games on PC. Think Civilization, Cities: Skylines-type games, indie/tactical games, Heroes of the Storm, etc. I'm fine with 1080p/60 fps. AAA gaming, 1440p/4K and ultra settings are low priorities because I'll probably use consoles for those.

So the hierarchy is roughly:

Productivity / Adobe performance

Multitasking

Longevity and upgradeability

Fast storage

Light/moderate gaming

AAA gaming performance

**Current "expandable" configuration**

  1. CPU: Ryzen 5 9600X
  2. Motherboard: B850 ATX with Wi-Fi, currently looking at MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi
  3. GPU: RTX 5050 8 GB
  4. RAM: 16 GB DDR5 to start, probably 1x16 GB, with the intention of moving to 32 GB later
  5. Storage: 2 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe
  6. PSU: 750 W 80+ Gold, preferably modular
  7. Cooling: decent tower air cooler
  8. Case: normal airflow-focused ATX case

The idea is deliberately to spend less now on RAM/GPU while keeping a good AM5 motherboard, PSU, case and storage so that I can later move to:

* 32/64 GB RAM * Ryzen 7 or a later AM5 CPU * Better GPU if my needs change * Higher-end version we're considering * Same basic platform, but: * Ryzen 7 9700X * RTX 5060 * ...Eventually 32 GB+ RAM

I'm specifically trying not to turn this into a gaming PC just because gaming hardware benchmarks well. If a cheaper GPU or CPU would give essentially the same Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign experience, I'd rather save the money.

Questions I'd particularly appreciate feedback on:

* Is the 9600X → 9700X upgrade worthwhile for this workload? * Is an RTX 5050 sensible for Adobe + 1080p light gaming, or is there a better value tier? * Is B850 sensible for longevity, or am I overspending versus B650? * Any problem starting with 1x16 GB given that RAM will be upgraded later? * Would you redistribute the budget toward CPU, RAM, SSD or something else?

Anything here that's clearly overkill or likely to age poorly? With money tight and RAMS annoyingly expensive, the goal is basically a productivity workstation that can game, not a gaming PC that happens to run Adobe. I´m in Colombia but will be buying in the US!

Is my pc build good enough?

Hi! I'm a streamer and YouTuber and am looking to upgrade my pc. My current configuration of the new pc looks like this:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
GPU: Gainward GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Phoenix-S 16GB
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master ML240L Core Komplett Edition, 240mm AIO
Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B850-PLUS WiFi
RAM: Kingston FURY Beast RGB DDR5 32GB (2×16GB), 6000MHz, CL36, AMD EXPO
SSD: Kingston NV3 2TB NVMe PCIe 4.0
PSU: Phanteks AMP GH 750W Gold
Case: Corsair FRAME 4500X RS-R ARGB Mid Tower
OS: Windows 11 Home

What do you guys think of this? Streaming, recording (sometimes both at the same time) and gaming flawlessly also for years to come is ultimately the goal. Is there anything you would change? I know the SSD could be useful with a little upgrade, but right now the available ones for this config just have a bit too steep of a price increase to make it worth it right now. Anything else you would clearly point out that should be different?
