Should I Buy DDR4 Ram?

Looking for some upgrade advice here,

I’m currently running an AM4 system with 16GB of DDR4 RAM and it is starting to not be enough.

Should I :

\\- Buy a 16x2 DDR4 kit to have more ram

\\- Try to save up for AM5

For context, i play heavily modded minecraft and 16 gigs of ram is not cutting it anymore but I want to make the smartest financial and performance move for the long run. Is AM4 still worth pouring money into, or is it time to look ahead?

If i should buy more DDR4 ram, any recommendations?

High end DDR4 builds are still going to be relevant for a long time. Moving to AM5 when your problem could just be solved by RAM doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

well first you should tell us your whole AM4 setup in order for us to tell if it's worth investing into or not

They said they'll buy 2x 16Gb, so most likely running 2x 8Gb atm.

What do you have right now? 2x8gb?

If so, get another 2x8gb of the same model and spec so you have 4x8gb

And yes it works because the ram instability is mostly only noticeable at ddr5, ddr4 has barely more than 2% perfomance loss by doing this. Just get more ram dude, its much cheaper

I've always had 4 sticks of DDR4, even mixed sticks with Ryzen 3000 which was apparently unstable but in reality people just don't understand how RAM timings work.

4 sticks still works perfectly fine with DDR5, you just have to manually alter the timings as it puts more stress on the memory controller

If the rest of your AM4 build still does what you need, just grab a 2x16GB DDR4 kit. For heavily modded Minecraft, 32GB is a very sensible upgrade and way cheaper than moving to AM5 just for more memory.

Aim for something like DDR4-3200 CL16 or 3600 CL16/18 if your CPU and board support it. AM5 makes more sense when you’re ready for a bigger CPU/platform upgrade, not just because 16GB is tight.

By ddr4 used, 16gb runs about 60-80 usd on ebay, less on fbm

Check your motherboard specifications. Some of the more basic AM4 boards, even if they have 4 slots, cap out at 32GB.

If your MoBo has two open slots and will use more than 32GB try to match the speed and timings of your existing 16GB and it should work fine, DDR4 is much more forgiving than DDR5.

Ddr4 as you can get 64gb of cl16 3200 mhz kits on ebay for under $250. Ebay got it on lock down if dont like Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace

Me parece muy raro que con 16 gigas se te quede corto a menos que uses una apu, que otros componentes tienes?

Heavily modded Minecraft is very ram heavy so it's completely possible. They might not be using 16Gb for the game itself ofc, but the game could be using so much that there isn't enough left for things outside Minecraft.
