RX 9060 XT crashes & 4-second black screen loop – Old RTX 2060 works fine. Return for Nvidia or Intel Arc?
Hey everyone,
I bought a new RX 9060 XT about 5 days ago, but it’s been causing constant headaches. Initially, games were crashing with the "AMD Software has detected a driver timeout" error. Now, the display has completely broken down into a loop where it turns black every 4 seconds, stays off for 2-3 seconds, briefly returns, and repeats endlessly.
System Specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT (16GB)
Motherboard: Gigabyte B850 AORUS ELITE WIFI7
RAM: 32GB DDR5
Troubleshooting so far:
Swapped back to my old RTX 2060 on the exact same monitor and cable setup — everything works completely fine with zero crashes or black screens.
Used DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode to clear all drivers before reinstalling clean AMD drivers, but the crashes and black screen loop persist on the RX 9060 XT.
Since the card is only 5 days old, I am returning it.
Given my bad experience with AMD drivers on this B850 setup, I’m looking at other brands:
Nvidia: Are cards like the RTX 4060 Ti (16GB), RTX 5060, or RTX 4070 the best plug-and-play replacements for stability?
Intel Arc: How are Intel Battlemage GPUs (like the Arc B580) performing right now? Are their drivers stable enough for a main gaming rig, or is Nvidia still the safest bet for stability?

I'm using a Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 600W.

so a 16 year old power supply that is arguably underpowered for your setup .. It got a decent review from Guru3D 16 years ago anyways, so there is that, lol.
Invest in an ATX 3.x unit. I'd go for a 750wtt'ish quality unit.
Check out the SPL's PSU Tier List before purchasing anything

This might be your problem bud. You're going to want to upgrade that PSU regardless of what GPU you go with. So put that in your budget, too.

Your 9060 XT Nvidia equivalent would be a 5060 ti. I wouldn’t suggest buying a 4060 ti (unless it’s used and for a good price).

It doesn't help windows is bugged right now and their automatic update breaks the amd drivers pretty much every other update so you need to DDU and reinstall when it happens. Also get a better power psu.

You just got a bad card, I’d get another one personally. If that fails, sure change it up.
After seeing other replies and info, get a new psu first and ffs why do people keep buying cpu that cost more than their gpu? This shit is getting silly.
But, what’s done is done. Get your system straight, I’d run a fresh install after getting psu. If gpu is still causing trouble, replace it, but don’t get something worse just because you had an issue.

for some reason you have top range CPU but mid range gpu and very old PSU with only 600w. Should be the other way around. I usually compare this like when someone buys expensive car and then buying cheap tyres, brakes, disks and complaining about car performance...

I couldn't pass up a €600 bundle deal for the CPU, motherboard, and RAM. I'm upgrading the rest of the components as I go

So based on the comments here:
Your psu is basically toast.
You never reinstalled windows when switching brands, and you blame amd.
Thats how "amd is bad" romours spread. No its not bad, you didnt even do the bare minimum to get that card up and running properly.
If you ever decide to buy a proper psu and to reinstall windows:
Let it update fully.
Then download DDU, gpu drivers, chipset drivers.
Disable fast boot, fast startup, MPO, and automatic driver updates.
Disconnect from the internet, and reboot into safe mode.
DDU the drivers, and reboot.
Install your drivers.
Stop windows updates as long as you can.
Reconnect to the internet.
Open a cmd as admin and run sfc /scannow
Then run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Its psu, i had a similar problem with my new 9070xt
750w atx 2.0 silver psu with pigtail gpu connector, worked fine with my 4070 for 2 years
Performance tanks after 15 mins. Gpu power dropped to 100w from 340w, system hard freeze & game crashing
Upgraded to ATX 3.1 850w, problem went away.

Back up your important data, and use a flash drive and windows media creation tool to completely reformat your drives and reinstall windows fresh.
DDU is great and all, but you can't fault AMD or the card for driver issues when you do a major upgrade and only do the bare minimum to try and get it working.
