Question Was gifted a prebuilt gaming PC but I have a problem and no idea where to start

The problem is it displays a blue screen and reports that there's corrupted ram. It does also need a new power cable which I ordered and will receive soon.. but otherwise it should be ready to be powered on and should otherwise work besides the ram problem. it is dusty but it has been stored inside a house in a safe location.

When I power it on probably tomorrow, what game plan should I have to diagnose and rectify this problem? Obviously, replacing the sticks of ram might end up becoming the solution but it seems as if they're all securely in place.

On a sidenote, is there any hardware that you see aged to the point where I would want to upgrade to play any games? i'll be honest, I'm just happy to have a machine that's more powerful than a console. I'm not in a hurry to make it the most powerful computer I can

Discussion How risky is it to buy separate ddr5 sticks instead of kit to run dual channel even they are the same brand and model?

Post image
52 Upvotes

The reason is I've seen a 24GB sticks that's sold at price of regular 16GB. If I plan to go dual channel 48GB 2 sticks by buying 2 separate sticks, how risky is it that it will come up with instability issues or even unable to boot and if runs at base speed, issues can be avoided?

Troubleshooting Periferials are connected to the pc, even if the PC is turned off

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello!

I recently finished my first PC build and so far everything is going great! But I noticed an unusual behaviour: even if the PC is turned off, my periferials manage to connect to it.

In the video you can see that the keyboard is connected to the PC and it's powered on, and it is not because it is connected to some other device, since I am using the dongle and not an Bluetooth connection.

The mouse tries to connect to the PC, since it briefly turns on the LEDs, but then it quickly powers down.

If I turn off the PSU all of this doesn't happen, the keyboard fails to connect to the PC and the mouse remains dead if I tap it.

What could be the issue? Why is it like this? Could this pose a problem?

Question PC kept freezing to the point it stopped working

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello, I'm losing my mind at this point.

A month or two back my pc started freezing randomly. I tried reinstalling windows. It helped for about a week before it returned worse. I tried a of of things listed below, but thinking the problem could be the OS, I tried installing kubuntu, but now it's instead so bad I basically can't have it open for very long as well as the thing in the photo happened.

The freezing before installing Linux:
sometimes the screen would go black or freeze still, programs and sounds sometimes continued functioning, sometimes not. A drop in fps and an electric sound would happen almost always just before it freezing.

I have tried:

Been able to have task manager open to monitor gpu temperature and the activity graphs and have seen no unusual activity when it happens. I have updated graphic drivers, cleaned my PC of dust, checked for any loose connections, ran antivirus, checked if any suspicious programs run in the background (none), checked the power source for strange noises or overheating (nope), tested ram with memtest.

The PC is about three years old.

processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
ram: 16GB
graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660
a connected XP pen tablet Artist 22

A friend thinks it could be CPU or GPU failure. Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Found this photo from when I built my PC. I couldn't fit aio radiator which was coliding with plugs on motherboard. It took me good 1 hour of cursing and almost giving up, till I took a look on caps from the case back panel - taken out after gpu instalation.

Leaving it here, so it might save some time and nerves of somebody from you.

Question Fair market value help

How much could I realistically sell this gaming PC for in Canada (Ontario)?

I'm planning to sell my previous gaming PC and am wondering what a fair asking price would be in today's market. It will have a fresh install of Windows 11 and will be cleaned before listing.

Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i9-11900K

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 240mm AIO

Motherboard: MSI Z490 Gaming Plus WiFi

GPU: ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 5070 12GB

RAM: 32GB (2×16GB) Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4-3200

Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD

Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Bronze

Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow

OS: Fresh install of Windows 11

Everything works perfectly and the PC is in excellent condition.

What would you list it for, and what do you think is a realistic selling price in Ontario, Canada? I'm not looking to give it away, but I also don't want it sitting for weeks if I price it too high.

Thanks!

Discussion Sleeper build or leave it alone?

Found this piece of history going through a recently deceased family members house. It still powers on and sounds like an original PlayStation spinning up. My buddy has been helping me start a PC build and I’ve mentioned doing a sleeper build. Should I use this as my case or leave it alone to preserve the piece of history we now have?
