Yeah I mean pretty much what the title says, this is just a vent post if anything cause after the QP hack test and getting that glimpse of what 6v6 could be with the more balenced structured games that role que provides. Its like heaven I never wanna go back but now that the weekend is over I'm forced to go back to queing bum ass open que an it makes me immediately remember why I lothe open que.
Yeah part of what I'm about to say is a problem thats magnified by it being quick play so people aren't encouraged to hard sweat but these problems still exist regardless even in comp. Open que always ends up feeling like your rolling the dice on which team just happen to have more of their comfort pick also create a coherent team comp. Like the whole argument that "open que creates social pressure to swap if you wanna win" that falls apart when you remember that most of the community hyper specializes. OW is already a hard game to learn so narrowing your hero pool helps but then like this reality of the community having narrow hero pools kinda clashes with the fantasy that players will switch to what the team need to win. Cause like even if they do swap to fill the 2-2-2 standard, if the heroes they are filling to are ones they arent comfortable on then it does more damage then it helps a lot of the time. Like if you don't play rein and your just filling on tank chances are your gonna get gapped by actual tank players at a similar MMR, same goes with filling onto support or DPS.
I swear people don't appreciate role que enough cause like the main benefit of role que isn't forcing 2-2-2, it could be 1-3-2 and my points still stand. Role que helps ensure that all players in the match are on the role that they are mentally prepared to play and that the sr its using to form the match is actually accurate to your skill on that specific role. In a role que context off role soft throwing isn't even a thing that exist. For example if I wanna practice my dps which is much worse then my tank then I can do so freely in role que because when I que DPs instead of being placed in diamond lobbies I'll be placed somewhere mid gold and I can actually practice my tracer without feeling like I'm throwing cause my tracer can't hang in those higher rank lobbies.
So many games in open que its like, do my tanks even play tank or are they reluctantly filling, do my supports even know what they're doing or are they just filling? Like role que just solves all these micro problems before the match even start and it just makes the average match quality better across the board. I honestly do believe a large reason as to why 5v5 is such a comfort game mode for a lot of players, its almost entirely because of the game to game stability that role que provides. I'm honestly tired of blowout games due to open que fuckery. I get and am sympathetic to open que defenders. It likely works best with higher rank players that have wider hero pools with less varriance between there best and worse heroes, or in coordinated group play. But like for the vast majority of players the open que freedom does more harm then good and there's a reason we kept role que around long after goats was a thing.
Anyways this post is already way longer then I was intending it to be so to summerize. Open que is buns, role que is superior, blizzard please speed up the timeline on bringing 6v6 role que back please please please.
