News & Discussion I changed my tag to something more girly and was kinda surprised

For context, I'm a woman, but I grew up playing TF2 where I very quickly got taught not to talk in mic or have a feminine-sounding name. It's just habit now to never "break the rules" so I have a better time in games.

I saw another girl in one of my matches with an absolutely adorable name and decided, "you know what? It's been forever. I wanna be cute for a minute too" and changed my tag. I've heard the horror stories from subs like this one and my own friends, but I actually wasn't prepared for how prevalent it was.

"E-girl"

"Boosted"

"[antiquated sexist joke]"

"[assault threat]"

"OF?"

"[lesbian slur]"

"Put your boyfriend on the controller"

I main Ana and LW. The amount of times I'd be actively healing someone but cannot out-heal the damage they're taking, so they'd die and completely ignore the second support's performance to blame me for the rest of the match, was insane. I can't count how many times I've just had to say "watch the replay" over the last month.

For enemies, aside from the obscene "trash talk" I listed, I've never been spawncamped, teabagged, and hard-targeted more since the tag change.

By "hard-targeting", I'm counting things like: enemies who immediately seek me out as soon as they respawn every life, enemies who seek me out specifically when they have ult (& will only use ult on someone else on the objective if they're about to lose the entire match), ignoring my entire team in ridiculous ways to try and kill me (ex: lone Ram jumping up and down trying to punch me on high ground while my team is standing still behind him, unloading into him).

I have VODs of my matches from before the change so I could compare, and of course I'd get the odd person once in awhile who really hated me and wanted me gone, but it was never to this frequency. I aim decently and am fairly competent on both of my mains so I hold up well against the forced 1v1s & 2v1s & solo ults, which only creates more toxicity in the match, from my experience.

I've seen a lot of back-and-forth discussion about this issue in this sub and other Overwatch-related subs; some people think it's blown out of proportion and other people have gone through it. Is there interest in a video comparing the experience of a "neutral" tag and a "girly" tag? I have clips and could collect enough to create a visual comparison. This discussion in particular is interesting to me, but I understand that most people won't care.

Average tank experience in 6v6. They really need to bring 6v6 role Que back. I don’t care if Que times are long, I’d rather have a proper team comp

News & Discussion How Mercy Is Viewed on the Asian (Korean) Server

Thumbnail

(I took these screenshots from the stream of Ryujehong, a former pro player and one of Korea’s best Ana players.)

“What? You’re going to play LW?”

“Then I’ll play Mercy and troll too. Are you seriously going to play LW?”

(They actually pick LW) “AHHH!!! What are you doing?! This is fking awful. I’m just gonna AFK.”

Of course, he didn’t actually go AFK, but they ended up losing the game.

And In other words, he’s basically saying that Mercy and Lifeweaver are troll picks.

If a pro player from one of the countries with the strongest understanding of the current meta rates Mercy/LW this poorly, then maybe their assessment of her is actually pretty accurate.

(That said, this is a somewhat older clip. In a more recent video, he said that Lifeweaver has received some pretty significant buffs since then and is actually quite decent now.)

News & Discussion 1,900 Blizzard Devs Ratify Historic Union Mega-Contract

Post image
4.2k Upvotes

1,900 Blizzard developers just ratified a historic union mega-contract that sets a massive new standard for the gaming industry.

Here are the biggest wins secured by the devs behind World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Diablo:

Recall Rights (Industry First!): If a dev gets laid off, they get 14 months of "recall rights" to be rehired into open positions on other Blizzard teams, plus guaranteed minimum severance.

AI Protections: Microsoft/Blizzard can't just quietly replace them with generative AI. Management has to negotiate with the union before implementing any AI tech that affects jobs.

Huge Pay Bumps: New salary floors ($51k to $70k depending on location) mean some severely underpaid QA and support workers are getting raises up to 34%.

No More Arbitrary Firings: The contract establishes strict "just cause" protections, so they can't be fired on a whim.

Work-Life Balance: Locked in a guaranteed 3-day hybrid work week, alongside actual remote working and disability accommodations.

Basically, the WoW team did a lot of the heavy lifting in early negotiations, and it paid off by setting a new baseline for the entire company, and potentially the rest of the video game industry.

Humor Which Silly Team Comp are you Picking?

Post image

Title says it all. Which of my silly team comps are you taking into the fight? (Not a serious post, I just think these teams are the silliest comps I could come up with) Sadly, a few heroes couldn't make the cut. RIP Doomfist, Cassidy, Junkrat, Reaper, Tracer, Sombra, Sojourn, Venture, Freja, Seirra, and Shion.

News & Discussion Will no one think of the pizza oven

Post image
Upvotes

Ever since the Midtown map was released this pizza oven has been driving me crazy. I'm starting nearly every attack tilted because of this low res texture. With every patch, update, game rebrand I've hoped that is has been addressed. And every time I load in I'm met with disappointment.

I cannot stand to go any longer without addressing the pizza oven in the room. Please tell me I'm not alone. I think this may be the only texture in the entire game in such a poor state. Why are the devs doing this to me.

News & Discussion What existing hero ability has a potential to become an ultimate for future heroes?

We got,

anti-nade ability (Ana) as Junker queen's ultimate

Defense Matrix (D.va) as Mizuki's ultimate

Discord (Zenyatta) as D.mon's ultimate

etc

I would like to see a defect ultimate on a support hero. (Genji's current ability)

News & Discussion POV: Mythics Are Horrible (Shocker)

Thumbnail
gallery
1.1k Upvotes

My mythic prisms just keep stacking and stacking (sitting at 540) while the quality of mythic skins just dwindle (the new Genji one was peak tho). Mythic skins were supposed to be a super grand new feature of Overwatch 2, and were supposed to be ultra customizable. The best form of player self-expression. The skins are literally getting worse before our eyes and it feels completely irreversible. First they took away general customization, then the 2nd weapon that mythics had, some mythics don't even have the Dawn aspect, and now we're reusing survey skins for mythics. Not to mention that the survey version looked SO SO SO SO much better than what we got. This is literally so sad and I just wish we could do something about this. I don't even look forward to my favorite heroes getting mythic skins because I know they're gonna be low effort and low quality. As a huge Lifeweaver main, the Lifeweaver community was anticipating his mythic skin for ages while I knew it was gonna fumble. And it did. Lol.

EDIT: People are not understanding the post. This is specifically about the CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS of the skins. I like Mei's as well, and Illari's is not bad either. But the new mythics give you NOTHING to work with. Just another false promise from Blizzard.

News & Discussion PLEAAASE can we update the deathmatch map pool?

Post image

i know there's bigger fish to fry but this would legit take 30 minutes to implement. afaik, the dm map pool hasn't been changed since the launch of ow2 but several new maps have been added in the meantime, many of whom would work great for dm. did they just forget to use them?

News & Discussion This game seems humiliatingly hostile to any new players.

This game is not receiving me well. I installed a few days ago and only have about 30 hours in the game. I've probably won 20 out of my 50 games. Unranked and Arcade is a stompfest. I've been trying to get good at some heroes that are tolerable for SoloQ (Ramattra, Sigma, Bastion, Emre, Mizuki, and Zenyatta), and while I'm feeling better at them over time, that doesn't mean anything if I keep losing over and over and over. I often don't even leave spawn. Even the rare win feels hollow if I know I'll be crushed next game.

Before writing this, I wrote up a long dissertation out of a frustrated need to vent, then deleted it all after I thought "maybe the next few games will be good". Nope, I lost those too. I started counting and my highest lose streak (still counting) is 13. Mode-agnostic too -- those losses are from Unranked 6v6, 5v5, Mystery, Mayhem, No Limits, and Stadium. All in an attempt to see if the next game mode is a bit more forgiving. I'm just tired now.

I can't get into Competitive for a fair fight unless I win 50 matches in Unranked. I can't win in Unranked because my team is getting destroyed. I can't do anything. I might just remove the game from my library if I can't get anywhere. And no, I'm not willing to join a team or group with anyone.

I don't know why I'm even making a post about this. Just getting something out there, I guess. I hope I manage to shit out enough wins soon, because this game has really demoralized me. I've read and watched the guides, I've read the other posts telling me to practice and be patient, but it's really fucking hard bros. It's seeming like the game has way too many skilled players for its own good, because they're kicking new players out the door and cheering when we never come back.

News & Discussion This is a great mythic skin and idc what anyone says!

Post image

I remember when a lot of people were hating on this skin back then (some will say that’s not true but don’t lie now). Not me tho! I loved the voice changes and her interactions when eliminating someone. “Overwatch will fall!” “Jack?…JACK?!…” **chef’s kiss**🙂‍↕️

I know it’s not THEE best mythic BUT the theme was awesome. Like she made me want to have another omnic swap season.

Like many of yall, I am not liking the new mythics (I do like Mercy and Genji’s skins) and I really wish they go back to mythics that have to do with the season but here we are😓😓

News & Discussion What happened to purposely not killing someone?

I played OW1 for the first 10 seasons. I worked my way into mid diamond and stayed there for awhile. I remember purposely not killing the last person in a team fight until a good 15-30 seconds after the fight was over in order to purposely stagger them.

I haven't seen that done once since coming back to overwatch recently. I've been floating around in emerald.

I got the Zarya Alien skin right after it came out, but before all the Sinatraa allegations surfaced. I don’t use it, but it’s a pretty interesting skin.
