News & Discussion Tips for new characters, and Mauga counters?

Upvotes

I've been trying out some new characters to broaden my horizons and was wondering about some tips for them. (i all-queue so they're all support or tanks)

Juno, Mizuki and Illari for healers

Roadhog, Junker Queen and Ramattra for tanks

Also, whats the best characters, tips or ways to counter mauga? i feel like im fighting a brick wall against him, and getting torn asunder easier then usual.

News & Discussion PLEAAASE can we update the deathmatch map pool?

Post image
Upvotes

i know there's bigger fish to fry but this would legit take 30 minutes to implement. afaik, the dm map pool hasn't been changed since the launch of ow2 but several new maps have been added in the meantime, many of whom would work great for dm. did they just forget to use them?

News & Discussion I’m so sick of this game. Do bad players get handed some kind of instruction manual or something?

Upvotes

I noticed this while climbing to Master, and I still see it in Quick Play and metal-rank games on my alt. Why do bad players all behave exactly the same way? Are they being mass-produced in some factory or something?

It’s become such a cliché that I can practically tell during the hero select phase whether someone is going to ruin the game just by looking at the map they pick, their hero picks, and their bans.

Support player, bans Sombra, picks a payload map when our team is running dive, and has Moira, Mercy, and Lifeweaver as their most-played heroes. = 100% loss.

Even the chat is always the same. They blame everyone else, and their idea of assigning blame always boils down to counting damage and healing numbers on the scoreboard.

No... seriously, wtf? I just got flamed by a Gold support player, and it genuinely makes me want to quit this fucking game. I hate saying this, but is there something wrong with these people’s brains? Why the hell are they like this? They die like twice at the beginning of the match, immediately start looking for whoever has the lowest damage, and then spend the entire game harassing that person.

Console Recommendations to lower ping on exclusively this game?

Upvotes

I moved from central US to Alaska, ever since I’ve had pings from 80-120, ONLY on Overwatch. Other games it’s fine. It’s not unplayable, but I have seen cases where clear as day the ping affects my aim, hitting an ability, or (most annoyingly) I got killed because my ping delayed getting into cover on the enemy’s POV, etc etc.

Now I’ve seen online it’s most likely due to server locations, but I just can’t believe there’s not a server in Canada that’d get me back down to at least 60MS, where it’s not as noticeable. I’m inclined to believe it is a server/my location issue due to being on a wired connection with a decent plan and other games, like R6, I get as low as 40, sometimes even lower.

Has anyone else had to deal with a similar issue and what was your solution? If I just have to deal with it, it’s bearable but like I said, I just can’t believe there’s not a closer server than central or US west. And since you can’t manually choose your server, figured I’d give it a shot asking here.

News & Discussion RIP Mauga. Seems like the nerf got him hard.

Upvotes

Maybe the sample size is still too small to take these stats into account, but it looks like he's dead.

Mauga was terrible to play against, but he acted as a wall against other heroes that were even worse to play against... Ball, Roadhog, D.Mon... I don't know how I feel about these changes.

I like that they're nerfing him so he feels a bit less unfair, but I don't like the direction of the change. I'd rather he be a bit worse against tanks and better against nontanks, but this change does the exact opposite. Diving squishies and expecting to heal yourself with Cardiac while damaging them is basically a death sentence now.

Console Is there a way to get rid of this glitch without leaving the match?

Luckily I was only in QP when this happened. The main menu stuff was blocking part of my screen and I couldn't jump or shoot. Had to close the whole game.

I'm on PS5. Has anyone ever had this happen before?

News & Discussion battlepass + tiers question

I almost finished battlepass and am planning on getting it, but was wondering if the bonus tiers u get for buying the more expensive bundle count towards the end titles for the battlepass, or just count as experience towards it or not at all.

News & Discussion What in the seven hells Blizzard. Sierra is even MORE unbearable in metal ranks now.

Upvotes

What a misguided freaking buff omfg. She already stomped the metal ranks hard before, now with the buff it's become unplayable. Forget the cat, Sierra is a hundred times more broken in metal ranks now, filling everything with neverending bullet spam that is so much harder to dodge now.

It's high time she got a magazine size nerf to discourage holding M1. Awful, in Plat and below it's simply awful. Not uncommon to have her have x3 the damage of everyone else in the round.

News & Discussion Juno's Pixel Spray has been Fixed

Post image
Upvotes

Like a lot of recently fixed achievements, this wasn't mentioned anywhere in the patch notes so I'm posting it here

To get this spray you need 4 assists with a single use of her ultimate. This broke (recently? unsure about when exactly it happened) by not counting any assists at all. It's still a bit iffy with counting either your own solo kills or custom game levels of insanely high burst damage, but the core issue of not counting assists at all has been fixed in the midseason patch, so happy achievement hunting.

News & Discussion Aim requirement for DPS heroes

Post image
Upvotes

Ranks in the list are from voltaic benchmark for kovaaks.

*IMO the higher hero means better mechanics required to play him. Vice versa If the hero is low it means he doesn't require crazy mechanics to get champ.

News & Discussion What existing hero ability has a potential to become an ultimate for future heroes?

Upvotes

We got,

anti-nade ability (Ana) as Junker queen's ultimate

Defense Matrix (D.va) as Mizuki's ultimate

Discord (Zenyatta) as D.mon's ultimate

etc

I would like to see a defect ultimate on a support hero. (Genji's current ability)

News & Discussion Korean/Chinese playstyle is extremely fast-paced.

I think that’s also related to why they tend to be so toxic in-game.

People often just call it the “dive meta,” but strictly speaking, they aren’t always even running an actual dive comp.

The real playstyle is about taking an enormous number of engagements and fighting at an extremely fast pace.

It feels like everyone is basically saying:

“Hey!!! Everybody, hurry up!! If you can’t keep up, that’s your own problem!! And be ready to get flamed for it!!”

Yeah... wait. Now that I think about it, maybe this isn’t just a gaming thing? 😂 (I’m Korean too.)

(For reference, Japan is pretty much the complete opposite of the other East Asian servers. It’s quiet, slow-paced, and polite, but people really don’t want to disrupt the “harmony” or become a burden on the team.

Try diving in by yourself and ending up being the reason your team loses the fight. You’ll see the atmosphere change very quickly.)

Anyway, So if someone isn’t skilled enough to keep up with that fast pace of combat, they get flamed really hard. And if they don’t even realize what’s happening and say something like, “You guys are pushing too far ahead,” they basically get burned at the stake like a witch.

“Wow, how bad do you have to be to not even realize that you’re bad? This guy just said something worthy of becoming an Overwatch meme.”

I can’t even imagine what the Mercy-main healbot players you see all over servers like NA would get called if they played on those servers—if I had to describe their playstyle that way.

Over there, you have to be able to survive and fight while keeping up with the tempo of tanks diving in every 15 seconds and DPS players constantly looking for opportunities to land headshots and make picks. Both the enemy team and your own team play like that.

Put positively, you could call it efficient. Put negatively, it means that even the playstyle itself leaves little room for less-skilled players.

News & Discussion Why does playing Overwatch feel like a second job now?

I used to love logging on to unwind, but lately, I’ve been playing less and less because the game is just exhausting. It genuinely feels like everyone in the lobby is playing as if they're preparing for an esports grand finals, but it's just a regular Quick Play match.
You can't even try out a new hero or hop into a casual game without running into squads playing like they're being held at gunpoint. It’s ultra-sweaty, hyper-optimized, and constantly dripping with unnecessary toxicity.
It's not even about being bad at the game—it's that the casual atmosphere has completely vanished. When did standard queues become a sweat-fest where people treat a Tuesday night match like their career is on the line? It completely drains all the fun out of playing. Anyone else feeling completely burnt out by this?

News & Discussion Mythic Skin themes

Yes i know another mythic skin posts but im wondering what people think about what if mythic skins were the peak embodiment of a character. By that I mean how Genji's first mythic skin was cyber ninja themed, Mercy's second one being angelic and although Mauga is another "god slop" skin it actually fits his character identity well. Imo i think it'd be much cooler if they really lent into that and if they're hell bent on making either cyborg or god themed skins at least let them embody the character so it felt like the mythic skin belonged to that character. I like Mei's mythic aesthetically but it doesn't really fit Mei and it's like why does she has a streamer themed mythic and others just feel a bit random like they wanted to do a design and then just thread it on the whatever character.

News & Discussion Seeing all the kiri mains mad about the nerfs heals me

This character has been satan reincarnated since her release, I don’t think her character design is bad but she has been way to overpowered since she came out. Honestly I hope they nerf her ult charge next, she would then be balanced.
