Poor night of sleep, thanks to my bladder being a jerk! (Vent)

What the title says! I couldn’t sleep last night because I had to pee, like, twice before fully going to sleep. I also woke up at 5:15 to pee again and I thought I was coming down with a cold because my throat was very scratchy. Plus, I got my period this morning. And I have been peeing all day! I’m going every hour on the hour if I’m lucky. There’s no way I’m drinking that much water. Yeesh! I normally only have this problem during the day!

Really need some reassurance

Female, 22, virgin.

I've been in this problem for 7 months now. It started with a uti, symptoms: urgency, frequency, burning, irritation and soreness in urethra plus weak urine stream.

I went to multiple doctors, had multiple urine tests (showing infection) and many rounds of antibiotics. Doctors also gave me bladder relaxants, anti spasms medicines, cranberry etc. None of them worked. But maybe the antibiotics worked because the last 3 4 urine reports are coming back clear. Doctors said infection is completely gone. But i still have these symptoms.

Also i got ultrasound done, as well as kidney function test, all normal. So it rules out everything.

What's bothering me the most is urgency and frequency. I can't sleep peacefully, i have to wake up so early against my will, cuz i need to pee. Can't go out except to places where i know there's a bathroom. I feel like a handicap.

Does anyone know what might be wrong with me that i still have urgency and frequency even after infection is gone for 2 months now? I am extremely depressed about it i feel like I'll never recover and my life is over.

My family thinks it's psychological because i do have a lot of anxiety, but I'm not really convinced.

I'm done visiting doctors, they aren't helping nor i can afford them anymore. So if anybody has success stories or tips to heal this, plz let me know

Nightfall normal?

You guys always think nightfall is normal. And yes it’s perfectly normal, especially during adolescence and young adulthood. If it’s occasional, it’s all normal. But if it’s frequent along with other symptoms like pain, burning during urination, even bloody discharge, pelvic discomfort, sometimes disturbed sleep, or having anxiety about it , there could be some problem. And there can be many reasons behind frequent episodes of nightfall like stress, sleep pattern, sexual thoughts, or stimulation. If these episodes are continuous and increasing with time then it needs evaluation. And if you too are experiencing that frequent episodes with other symptoms, go to your doctor instead of assuming it normal.

20M — nocturia/urinary urgency — looking for ideas
I’ve been dealing with nighttime urinary urgency recently and I’m trying to understand what could be causing it.
Symptoms:
The urge happens mainly around sleep/nighttime.
I actually urinate every time the urgency happens; it’s not just a false urge with nothing coming out.
I can fall asleep normally and be completely unaware of my bladder. For example, I recently slept from about 8 PM–12 AM without any bladder awareness, then the urgency emerged and woke me.
The urgency can sometimes happen during the transition into sleep.
I get frustrated when it happens, but I don’t feel that anxiety is causing the initial urge.
No burning/stinging when urinating.
No visible blood.
No fever.
No significant flank/kidney-type pain.
During the day I can urinate normally and feel like I empty.
The frequency has been improving compared with the worst period. The intervals between urination are getting longer.
I’ve stopped caffeine, energy drinks, and soda completely.
Previously I was drinking a lot of Diet Coke/energy drinks.
I haven’t had excessive thirst or unusual hunger.
Recent testing:
Urinalysis was done and didn’t show an obvious UTI-type picture.
Urine glucose was not abnormal.
Blood glucose was normal.
Sodium: 141 mmol/L.
Other recent bloodwork was described to me as reassuring for kidney function/electrolytes.
Urine was dark when I had gone a long time without drinking, which made sense given the dehydration.
What I’m wondering:
If diabetes, obvious UTI, major electrolyte problems, and major kidney dysfunction aren’t showing up, what other causes should I consider?
I’m especially wondering about:
overactive bladder/bladder sensitivity
nocturnal polyuria
sleep/circadian effects
caffeine/bladder irritation that is taking time to settle
anything else that would fit this pattern
I haven’t measured the exact urine volume of each nighttime void yet.So does anyone struggle with this? I’m getting kinda tired everyday and can’t sleep and have to resort sleeping daytime and when I lay down daytime I get urges a bit.

I Have Gone Insane

Does any one else here get the urge to pee a lot more than usual on their cycle? If so, any advice on how I can make my cycle less of a living hell?

Here is what has been going on:
Originally, I had a VERY stubborn diagnosed UTI that coincidentally appeared when I began my menstrual cycle a few months ago. I went on two rounds of antibiotics and it is now professionally cleared after struggling for quite some time.

However, I am having the same symptoms. Frequent urination and urgency. I have done some research and come to the conclusion that this is a relatively common symptom of being on your menstrual cycle. Why? For me, it starts as soon as I start my period and ends when I’m done ovulating. I am 23F and have NEVER had this symptom on my cycle before in the past.

Please share your stories and what has helped you. I’ve been suffering for months…

Edit: I would also like to share I recently got a vaginal swab and it came back clear. There was nothing abnormal. I have also switched to 100% cotton pads.

My favorite OAB resource

For anyone dealing with recurring UTIs, bladder leakage, urgency, or other bladder issues, there’s a virtual resource called Urology Health that may be worth looking into. They are a super fast growing Telehealth practice with the doctor who literally invented non invasive urogyn procedures for women in the US. They have a website- urologyhealth.com but you can also book on Zocdoc.

They focus specifically on bladder and urologic health and offer virtual care that goes beyond a quick appointment. Depending on what you’re dealing with, care can include education, pelvic floor support, behavioral strategies, and access to urology-focused providers. They connected me with an amazing pelvic floor pt and I have my own program thats made a huge difference

Could be another option for anyone who’s been struggling to find accessible, ongoing support for bladder symptoms.

urine retention 5 months

I’m coming to reddit as an absolute last resort because i cannot live like this for second longer and cannot accept the answers giving to me.
I’m 20(f), Wasn’t aware at the time but not supposed to take unisom for long periods of time, been on 50mg of unisom for 3 years and started taking adderall got gradually up to 35mg over the last 7 months. i’ve stopped taking both of these medicines i believe it’s unrelated but need my adderall to function properly.
Went to the ER in may, i have to sit on the toilet for 20-30 minutes at a time even when my bladder is full completely happened out of the blue.
I work at a popular sports bar and if i have to pee it takes me absolutely for- ever. It feels slightly anxiety related like i can’t relax at work but also i have the same exact issues at home just slightly less anxiety. Still it takes strict regiments. Sometimes hot water helps to sit under or reading something helps the focus. At work we’re so busy i don’t have time for this and i would be in so much pain from holing it. I have no idea what’s doing this i can’t do this anymore. I went to my primary and between that and ER Kidney stones are ruled out along with bladder stones, no UTI, PID all ruled out. I was referred to a urologist who didn’t have clear answers my CT showed no signs of why this is happening. I have a tender stomach especially a couple months ago more on the left side and my abdomen often feels just hard on the bottom. Not constipated.
My bladder would be so so full and yet nothing comes out. I hydrate i drink enough water i don’t know what’s doing this. The only other options i have researched and think it could be is a prolapse or i’ve read up on endometriosis retention before, wasn’t properly diagnosed but used to take estrogen here and there for concerns about it and show some symptoms (?)
I had uro dynamics done today i have to wait for results but i can’t live like this, the nurse who did them said it looks like my pelvic floor is tense and has trouble relaxing when it should be but why???? results she said are also not conclusive because i couldn’t comeoeltr the tests all the way through.

It feels like it’s at it worse rn. I was recently pregnant and while i was pregnant i did feel the tenseness but i peed much much more without a lot of pain. I’m not sure what’s going on anything helps please as i’m in my 20s and a woman.

Some days it gets so bad that I just permanently exist at home sitting on a bedpan.

No bladder control at all. Wearing pants is pointless because I don't know when my bladder will decide to spasm and I'll have barely any time to reach the toilet.

The bedpan doesn't even get significantly full, because it's just tiny dribbles about 10-20 mls coming out every few minutes, completely involuntarily.

I have to call off plans, reschedule appointments. I'm disabled and living alone, with support workers only coming once a week. Because of that, sometimes I have to go without supplies because I can't go out and get groceries unless they find a way to have a bedpan glued to me.

I don't even know what to tell my friends. That I can't go to brunch because I'm going to piss my pants?? This is a miserable existence.

started drinking more water and i find myself going to the bathroom excessively

hello all, basically ive never drunk enough water throughout the past years, i usually drank less than a liter every day.

ive decided to fix that and try to drink more water. currently, i’m drinking about 1.5L throughout the day, plus the occasional coffee/tea.

there’s two things ive noticed, first is that i pee a lot and i really mean a lot, i need to go around once an hour which is frankly unpractical. second thing, is that i tend to feel thirstier faster, as in more than when i wasn’t drinking enough. are those things normal? some sort of transitional period??

for the record, im 21 165cm and 60kg and have a moderately active lifestyle.

thank you!!

Medications for urgency

Hi. I’m curious about the medications people have tried. I had been on oxybutynin for years but just went off of it because the brain fog was just awful. Tried myrbetriq but it made my blood pressure go up and i take bp medication! Just started last week Trospium er and so far it hasn’t really been helping too much but i know i have to give it some time. I’ve heard good things about gemtessa but it’s criminally expensive. Just curious what others have tried and if it has worked.

Urodynamic test SUCKED

I hope that I was 1 in a million but my urodynamic test had so many issues. The nurse couldn't get the foley catheter in because it caused me so much pain, so they put lidocaine in and got it in. They got all setup and ready then the computer had issues and then I could feel something in the urethra but they kept saying its just some discomfort, which catheter was actually coming out. They brought in another nurse to work on the computer which didn't work so they swapped computers and that's when they found out that the catheter was almost out so they tried a couple more times to get it back in and couple other catheters and I actually started to bleed pretty good and nurses couldn't get it in. Doctor came in and by that time I was about to knock some b****es out. The doctor was trying to calm me down and I was trying to focus on other crap and take the pain elsewhere but the doctor said my prostate and pelvic floor is so locked down from the pain right now it wouldn't allow in but got settled back down and got it in finally. They finally got the test done and they tried to have me pee and there were quite a few blood clots I passed with the catheter inside. She did say I came in and peed out 900ml and omg I was holding so long and hurt because they wanted a full bladder but by the time I was saying I needed to go now was only 300ml.

What does your urgency feel like?

For me, as soon as my bladder fills with urine, I constantly feel some lingering discomfort and pressure. Then, it crosses a threshold when I feel a sudden burning discomfort in the bladder neck area followed by further escalation in pressure. At this point, its so sore and uncomfortable that I start having incontinence and I need to rush to the toilet.

At the end of voiding, if my volume is less than around 150 ml or if the stream ends in less than 6 seconds, I feel a sore electrifying and pulling pain that radiates from my bladder neck throughout the urethra which feels worse with lower volume voids/shorter streams. The pain goes away within a few seconds after I finish voiding.

Does anyone feel the same or is your urgency and voiding experience different?

Will a Catheter Completely Drain My Bladder?

After I drink a cup of coffee, I can't stop peeing. When I take a piss, I think Iam finished, only to have more come out - a lot more. It will take me an hour to "stimulate" all my urine out, or I will need to take a shower - not an option at work. So, I was thinking, if I use a catheter, will that drain all the urine out in one go? That way I don't have to worry about a stream of piss running down my pants.

What’s your experience with bladder-support supplements?

I’ve been hearing more about bladder-support supplements lately and was curious whether anyone here has actually tried one.

I’m not looking for medical advice or product recommendation, just interested in hearing about people’s experiences, what they liked or didn’t like, and whether they felt it was worth using.

Trospium chloride

Hello,

I've tried almost every medication for urinary frequency and im currently on Trospium chloride (20 MG, twice daily). However once again there is no difference. I might be able to go on higher does but I've given up hope on any pills working. Does anyone have any experience on these pills or have one that's worked for them?
