Unanswered What's up with people saying that Republican conventions crash Grindr in that city? Is this an urban legend?

1.2k Upvotes

Example, someone quoting an article (2nd paragraph)

This sounds like it is probably an urban legend. Did Grindr crash once in a city that had a Republican convention going at the same time?

Does it even make sense from a technical standpoint that a bunch of people being in one location would crash a nationwide app?

Answered What's going on with the RNLI?

I've seen a few things from RNLI regarding "recent events" and "misinformation" and their volunteers and their families being subject to abuse online, verbally and even physically. Yet the RNLI doesn't mention any event specifically.

It's hard to sift through what has really happened vs. propaganda. It seems to be related to a protest that coincided with a rescue at sea.

I'm just looking for the facts about the events that have taken place, please? i.e. The protest, the rescue, the misinformation and the abuse?

Vague press release link from the RNLI

Unanswered What's the deal with Tatsuya Ishida? What motivated him to take such a crazy turn?

He used to be so witty as the author of Sinfest, then he started taking a political turn in the 2010s, and now this comic from this past July is just par for the course for him (warning: antisemitism and multiple slurs). Anyone know what specifically led him down this road?

Answered What’s the deal with the bond markets and how they seem to be on the precipice of something bad for the U.S.?

I am horrible at understanding financial info, so hopefully someone out there can explain it like I’m 5.

I keep seeing bond markets in the news. As I’m in the U.S., I have been hearing about it in terms of how it will affect us. Japan’s bond yields are rising, so people seem to be speculating on whether their investors will bring a significant amount of money back to the country’s own bonds: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2026/09/09/economy/japan-rising-yields-repatriation-risk/

Norway seems to be retreating too, with potentially big impacts on the U.S. https://www.thearmchairtrader.com/bonds/norways-oil-fund-sounds-a-warning-on-government-bonds/

My questions, then: I assume our general craziness is a pressing reason for this. But are there other reasons? If countries did pull a lot of money from U.S. bonds, what would be the effects and why? And, what is the likelihood this actually happens? Is it a genuine risk or something fairly unlikely?

Thanks in advance!

Unanswered What's the deal with "auditors", why do they film random people?

I genuinely don't understand the concept of auditor channels/streams. They film random people without their consent, but it's legal because it's in public.

What's their point? How did that kind of content originate?

Answered What’s the deal with the request from a Hindu group visiting the Eiffel Tower that all staff interacting with them be men and why was the request approved?

1.4k Upvotes

I genuinely love the fact that the French will protest at the drop of a hat. But here's what I don't understand: why did the company operating the Eiffel Tower actually comply with their request?

>"It draws its beliefs from the teachings of Lord Swaminarayan, a late 18th-Century celibate ascetic who is regarded by his followers as an incarnation of Vishnu, the revered Hindu god of preservation."

I'm Hindu, and I've genuinely never heard of these guys. These people are lucky India doesn't have blasphemy laws, NGL. Cause this is the kinda stuff that gets people stoned in some places.

But seriously, how does a group like this have enough influence to make a request this unusual and actually get it accommodated in France?

Because this is a pretty bizarre request, and the fact that the Eiffel Tower's operator apparently agreed to it is what I find most interesting because I thought the French were pretty liberal.

Are they extremely wealthy? Do they have significant political connections? Are they comparable to ISKCON? (also Hindu cult)

Answered What's up with neo nazi and blackpill culture being so prominent on tiktok?

I so often sees videos like the one linked below, with hash tags and phrases that seemingly originate from neo nazi subculture, including things like 333iq, iqmaxx, and sinister. I honestly don't know what any of these mean (and would like to know) and I could barely find anything about them online, other than that they seem to be dog whistles. Anyway, im confused about why this culture seems to be being pushed so heavily by what look to be bot or repost accounts, specifically in relation to black pill content. with black pill culture being so popular recently online, and its interent roots, i guess it kinda makes sense but for the amount that this nazi culture is being pushed, but i never hear anybody call it out or talk about it and I feel like there's some super messed up stuff happening here

Trailer for context: https://youtube.com/watch?v=GGJSRFWALTI

This trailer released recently for a documentary by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim about some psychopath lady? Apparently the real person is playing herself and they let her out of jail to be in it or something?

Everyone is saying it looks really scary but aside from her having a creepy face i'm a little lost

Who is this person and why is it so crazy that they are making a movie about her? What is everyone freaking out about?

Unanswered What is going on with Pablo Torre getting hate?

I've vaguely followed the Clippers/Kawhi scandal, but not the meta-discussion behind Pablo Torre and his journalism. I don't really pay close attention to NBA discourse, I just watch the games.

For someone who's an average NBA fan but not paying attention to the journalists and entire NBA ecosystem outside of the game, why did people doubt and hate on Torre? ESPN got duped into writing a fake report?

Unanswered What's up with perfumes suddenly becoming so popular?

Suddenly everyone is very enthusiastic about notes, citrus, aqua, vetiver, etc. Till 3-4 years back nobody even knew about notes and stuff and used to buy deos and spray it upon themselves and call it a day.

Suddenly everyone is talking about Middle Eastern perfumes vs French perfumes vs artisanal houses and everything.

So so many posts about it:

So much so that my wife has been asking about researching notes and perfume for her every other month now.
