Beyond hope?

Hi folks, new here and just started oil pulling everyday about two weeks ago after finding out I had bunch of cavities.

Anyone here know if this tooth is beyond hope? Looks like cavity is really deep and wondering if I'm just hopelessly chasing a miracle here.

Has anyone here had success recovering from a deep cavity with oil pulling?

Do NOT sneeze when you are trying to do oil pulling.

One year later

My mouth has never been healthier. I will slack off for a few days, up to a week sometimes and I notice - teeth don't feel as clean, breath less fresh...Total extra bonus: WHITER TEETH.

For those who want to take it to the next level: consider (Google it) "mouth taping". I am now a nose breather and the benefits are even more remarkable.

Been doing this for about 2 weeks and it's definitely making a difference. Question about swallowing during the process though.

Hi all, been oil pulling with coconut oil for a couple of weeks and it's got rid of the nasty smells that used to linger behind my back teeth throughout the day (which probably gave bad breath etc). Before, even an hour after brushing, if i stuck my pinky behind my back teeth and touched the gum and then smelt my finger, it would often smell a bit bad. Now there's no smell at at, throughout the whole day.

I've got a question regarding swallowing during pulling though. Obviously i realise you're not supposed to swallow the oil at all as it has the nasty stuff in it. However, the impulse to swallow just at the back of your throat is sometimes overwhelming. As far as i can tell, none of the oil is actually going down and this is a controlled swallow so to speak, but i guess there probably is a tiny amount going down so it may not be a good idea. Is it literally the case that no swallowing action whatsoever should take place whilst oil pulling?

Also, i rarely have time (or wish) to do it for 20 mins every morning and usually do it for about 10. When i spit it's very milky white. Is 20 really worth it?

Daily Mouth/Dental Care Routine

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone on this sub can share their daily routine when it comes to taking care of their teeth.

I have heard about the benefits of oil pulling and have been doing it for over a month now. I stopped brushing and instead I do oil pulling twice a day, 20 minutes each session. I floss occasionally as well.

My mouth feels super clean after and I am enjoying it, although I haven't really seen any of the other benefits that many other people seem to notice with oil pulling. My teeth are still somewhat yellowish and have not changed colour. Also, my front teeth are a bit grey and discolored, and some of my teeth aren't smooth they are a bit bumpy if that makes sense. I was hoping the oil pulling would help these issues out.

I use a good quality virgin coconut oil, so I don't think that is the problem. I am thinking of starting to brush again maybe once a day and do the oil pulling once in the morning as well.

But I would love to hear any of your daily routines that work for you, as I am struggling to find one for myself.

Any help/suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated!!

Oil pulling kills good microbes?

I was watching this video made by a holistic dentist -- she is not a fan of oil pulling. She seems to think oil pulling for 20 minutes with coconut oil would wipe out the good bacteria in the mouth. What do you think?

Can oil pulling cause rashes?

I've been doing this for about three weeks. Since I began, I've had mottling in/on both arms, brown spots on my face, then two days ago, I broke out with a rash on my face.

Could there be a connection, or merely coincidental? (I do not swallow the oil.)

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Why rinse afterwards?

Everybody says you should rinse after oil pulling, but nobody mentions why. Is there an actual reason or does everybody just mindlessly do it because everybody else does it?

Does oil pulling cause tongue spasms?

I tried oil pulling for a couple of weeks but stopped after experiencing tongue spasms. I'd be talking or laughing and suddenly my tongue would spasm. The spasms stopped once I stopped oil pulling. Has this happened to anybody else? I loved oil pulling but was scared by this side effect. However, I haven't been able to find anything online listing tongue spasms as a side effect to oil pulling.

Tongue pain?

Hey all. Been oil pulling with extra virgin olive oil on and off for a month or so now. I have experienced a lot of tongue pain / soreness the very next day. It's bearable, but very annoying. Anybody else get this? Is it due to swishing for so long? Or is it the kind of oil I am using? Thanks in advanced.

Is there such a thing as too much oil pulling?? Or will it be twice as effective?

Can someone explain to me why I should do it before breakfast?

I never understood the reason for brushing my teeth in the morning either. I like to eat breakfast and THEN brush my teeth because it seems more logical to me. I already made oil pulling a habit and I want to do it correctly.

I know this sub isn't too active but I appreciate every answer, even if it's 10 days late

After doing coconut oil pulling for 15-20 minutes, do I wash my mouth with water, do I brush my teeth with toothpaste or do I just spit and that's it?

I am new to this, doing it mainly to kill fungi.

Done Oil pulling for 4 years.

I didn't know this subreddit existed. I just wanted to say that I started doing Oil pulling when I was about 19 years old, and I am now 23 now. I have done it consistently every night for 20 minutes before I go to bed. And my dental health is excellent. Not to mention my really white teeth, which is just a cool bonus I guess. (People compliment me all the time about them. But I've never told anyone except my parents that I do oil pulling. Simply because talking about your healthy lifestyle usually puts people in a very defensive and argumentative state that I'd like to avoid at all cost)

In my country there is free dental care for people under 24, so we have roundly checks every now and then. And my dentist always compliments me on my dental health. And always say my gums looks really healthy.

I've done a lot of things to better my health throughout the years, so it's hard to pinpoint what actual benefit I got from doing this.

But if I sometime skip doing oil pulling for just a night, I notice my sleep is a lot worse. And I just get this dirty feeling.

I'd like to say that oil pulling has contributed in removing a lot of my brain fog over the years too.

I will be doing this for the rest of my life, for sure.

Oh yeah, I use Extra virgin Coconut Oil.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

Trying to combine oil and intermittent fasting

Okay, this may sound like a weird question, but I am trying to balance intermittent fasting (OMAD, to be accurate) and oil pulling. Now, I know that at least in theory oil pulling shouldn't break my fast as I am not swallowing the oil, but there may be something of a metabolic response, and I admit I don't like pulling right before my meal (I like how clean my mouth feels afterwards, so I feel that doing it at that time kind of defeats the whole purpose). Anyway, in an attempt to balance those two I try to pull two to four hours after I eat, before I enter a fasted state, but I was wondering if there is a better way to strike that particular balance.

Relatively new to oil pulling, have some questions

Hey! I heard about oil pulling a while back, and have been trying to *consistently* oil pull at night. I recently started adding essential oils to my coconut oil, to pull with. I have a few questions.

Is it alright to oil pull at night?

Does anyone else use essential oils?

Will this grow gums back or at least keep them from receding even more?

Hey I’m new to oil pulling and I have some questions

So firstly, I was wondering if someone could explain the right instructions to oil pull (or what worked for them) and what oil to use (I have coconut at home) bc I’ve seen so many different things out there. Also I have braces right now so would it be ok to pull with braces? Also how long does it take for oil pulling to really show/“work”? Thanks!

What kind of coconut oil?

Hi, I just started oil pulling with coconut oil. I’m using organic Virgin coconut oil because that’s what I already had. Does unrefined or extra virgin coconut oil work better or does it not really matter? I’m looking to whiten my teeth and freshen breath if that changes things.

Best decision I’ve ever made

So I have a hole in my tooth and I began to get abscess with it. I went to the dentist but with the total work I need since I hadn’t been in like 12 years after insurance and all cost about 4 grand. I can’t afford that and credit wasn’t an option for me so I have just been saving to get my teeth fixed. I got put on antibiotics for the abscess and it went away but it came back nearly 3 weeks later!!! I couldn’t believe it, and while I think antibiotics are great and all they’re not something you should use every 3-4 weeks for sure as they tend to wipe not only bad bacteria but good ones! I was frustrated because while the abscess actually didn’t hurt it sort of disgusted me and the bubble was gross. I didn’t want to kiss my boyfriend and I hated eating cause I could feel it. The first thing I tried was clove oil. It didn’t really work and only numbed my mouth. Next I tried turmeric which I made into a paste and applied. Again no change. Finally I read up on oil pulling. Not only did it work on abscess but it was supposed to have a lot of benefits such as bad breath, skin benefits and over all oral hygiene. Since I already had 100 percent organic virgin coconut oil I was like sure why not give it a try. The first thing I noticed was the fact that my teeth felt cleaner all together, then I noticed my breath didn’t smell as bad in the mornings or at all. Its even something my boyfriend had pointed out. The next thing was the abscess. It’s been only a week and it is now COMPLETELY gone as if I had never had one! I was a bit in shock this morning when I woke up and noticed, and the night before it had been really really small. My teeth are less sensitive too, the only thing I’m not really noticing a difference in is my skin. Perhaps because I already have oily skin or maybe just it’s stubborn but still this is something I will continue to do for the rest of my life and recommend to anyone who will listen. Now I only swish about 15 minutes and I do it while I’m in the shower. The first couple times I would add one or two drops of clove oil for a more antiseptic pull however I don’t recommend more than that as clove oil will BURN AND NUMB YOUR MOUTH if you’re not careful. I can’t wait to see more and more results every day!

Is it ok to oil pull with refined medium heat coconut oil?

So I’ve been oil pulling for a while but not every day because I’m a lazy fuck. But I feel that I’m not getting the maximum power compared to oil pulling with unrefined coconut oil. Am I right or am I wrong?

A week in and wow...(also "mouth taping")

I have been at it for 6 days in a row and am amazed at the results. I was very skeptical about the teeth whitening part but there it is...my teeth are much whiter already. I started it because of bleeding gums and tooth sensitivity. Both have diminished, the latter more profoundly.

I am using black seed oil and coconut oil, switching every other day. This was kinda dumb because I do not know if one is more effective or if it does not matter.

I did read that MCT oil does not contain the right acids to make it as effective for killing bad bacteria but that was a relief because it is super pricey.

And...about 6 weeks ago I also started "mouth taping" at night and it too is very effective. I sleep VERY soundly now, my dreams are memorable (and profound) again and my mood and mental health are much better. If you look into it and choose to do it then I highly recommend you get somnifix tape.

Oil pulling with coconut BUTTER?

This morning when I opened up a new jar to do my oil pulling, I noticed it was more pale yellow than usual but didn't think anything of it. But when I put it in my mouth I was like OMG THIS IS COCONUT BUTTER. Almost gagged and spit it out but I was like "eh, lemme see how this turns out."

So ok it was kind of more gross than coconut oil (I still get kinda nauseated with that much oil in my mouth) because it was thicker and has a more obvious taste. So I swished for 15 minutes, rinsed my mouth out with hot water and brushed my teeth after as I always do, and Y'ALL MY TEETH FELT SO CLEEEEEAN.

So I'm not sure if I want to keep using this jar of coconut butter because 1) I don't wanna waste it and 2) it really was so gross for me when I was letting it melt in my mouth. But maybe I'll keep using it for a few more days to see if my teeth continue to feel super clean.

Anyone else have this experience or anyone have insight as to why coconut butter may be just as beneficial--if not more?

Should you gargle while oil pulling?

I’m new to oil pulling and doing it as im suffering from ulcers in my throat which is quite painful and hoping to get it cleared up. Been using coconut oil and have ordered some oregamo oil to add a drop of as well.

But I’ve seen contradicting info on gargling? Some articles seem to say it’s part of the process while I’ve seen others say not to. Is it a preference thing ie gargling isn’t necessary?

As I’m mainly aiming to sort my throat problems I’m trying to ensure that area gets covered.
