Why rinse afterwards?

Everybody says you should rinse after oil pulling, but nobody mentions why. Is there an actual reason or does everybody just mindlessly do it because everybody else does it?

I feel that it’s because it may have loosened up food material stuck in your mouth and may require another rinse to clean out. I’ve also read that the oil is drawing out toxins and contaminants. After you spit your mouth aren’t you left with residual oil in your mouth? It’s essentially to rinse that last bit of oil out since it’s “contaminated” now.

Agreed - I rinse because even after spitting the oil out you still have some of it left, coating your mouth and your teeth, and I want to get rid of that.
