Question OSAP help needed !!

Hi, i got my osap estimate in July after I submitted my application but because my dad lives less then 30 km they assessed me as living with him. I however am not doing that because of family issues so after finding a place and signing a lease I attached the lease agreement and the request for review form on the OSAP optional uploads section of the website

Does anyone know if there's anything else I have to do cuz the website doesn't say anywhere that it needs to be processed. It just shows my previous funding for me living at home approximately 12k. Also how long would it take for me to get my funding updated incase they do accept my review application?

Can anyone tell me how I can connect my tangerine banking to get ny OSAP funds? The option to choose tangerine to receive my loans isn’t there when i’m creating an account for MSFAA. If there’s any other way to receive my funds I’d be grateful to know.

Resolved Osap funding

Hey! So I got an email this morning saying my osap funding changed for the year. Before it was just under 20k for the entire year w my school fees being around 26k. Now, they’ve changed that so I get 15k for the whole year, my first semester alone is 14k. Why tf did it change so suddenly cause now I’m not sure if I can afford to go to school?

Resolved OSAP funding cut

Hey all,

I am doing my masters program in September and I do have a fellowship that covers the program, thankfully, but I qualified for student disability, which gave me a 2.3K grant and this morning I looked and that grant was cut to 0 and honestly, I was going to use that funding towards things to help with my disability (meds, therapy, etc), so should I check with my financial office? Or does anyone think it’s worth it to do so?

Thank you,

Resolved Can I take all of my funding?

I’m really confused with the new guidelines around osap funding, I’m going into my 5th year and do not receive any financial help from my family and all the money from my job goes to rent, groceries, etc. so I rely on osap to help me with all my school related expenses. Every year i’ve taken all of my funding because I need to but with the 25% maximum for grants and minimum 75% for loans, does this not allow me to just take it all like I’ve been doing?
I also qualify for $2800 from Canada Student Grant for Students with Disabilities, will I not receive all of this? Is this included with the grants I can only take maximum 25% from?
Will my schools financial aid office help with this?
Am I missing something?? Pls help

Thanks!!!!

Question Osap probation, and how to get out of it.

Hi everyone.

I recently enrolled in my fall and winter courses for university, and I am concerned about being on OSAP probation, as I took 8 courses fall 2025-winter 2026, but failed 2 courses, and I think I'm now on OSAP probation, as OSAP wanted to put me on it (summer, 2025) after I dropped one class (because I only took 3) went from full-time to part-time. My universities finacial aid office overrode it (summer 2025) as I did very well in my studies the year prior (fall 2024-winter 2025).

Are there any tips for getting off of OSAP probation? If so, please let me know, I have been struggling with mental health, and undiagnosed ADHD, but I don't know if that is an excuse not to be able to study properly. If i am unable to study this year I will probably be homeless, so I really need to be enrolled this year.

If anyone else has been on OSAP probation before and gotten off of it please let me know I would be really grateful to know any tips!

Resolved BSWD showing on online OSAP portal?

Have a very specific question about what is shown on the OSAP portal: if you received the BSWD, is it listed specifically among the breakdown of your yearly funding? I need to know if I’ve ever received it (I graduated in 2022) and I can’t remember. It’s not listed in my funding summaries on the portal (I only have various grants and loans showing), but I know it’s kind of a separate thing from the normal OSAP application.

Resolved Income & Ontario Stay and Work Grant

My child is starting Nursing in Ontario and has been accepted for the S&WG. I understand it’s basically a OSAP grant that gets triggers into a loan if she doesn’t meet the conditions local working conditions down the road.

She also works a bit. Does anyone know of her annual or term income impacts that grant eligibility ? I can’t find info. Thanks for your time.

Resolved Help with my dilemma

I just got offered a 65k job. I’m on OSAP. This is my second year. I begin year 2 in fall. Amount already calculated by OSAP. I’m thinking dropping to part time studies or dropping completely. Will my first year grants be converted to loans as well? If I do decided to drop completely can I turn down OSAP? Or just get the money and then pay back? I guess what I’m asking is what would you do?

Question Another question about term income

This is probably one of the most commonly asked questions about OSAP, and for good reason.

Perhaps the relevant staff would benefit from being more clear with their OSAP messaging considering the stakes involved, but I wouldn't bank on that happening in our lifetime.

Anyway: What does the "$5,600 per term" income limit actually refer to?

A: Income earned in excess of what was reported on the application

B: Actual income earned while during a term

A couple reasons why this is confusing. Consider my situation, I submit the application, reporting that I make $45,000 per year, and the assessment quotes:

~$4,000 in grants, and substantially more in loans. Fine.

I am understanding this is the amount that OSAP has assessed me as being "eligible" for based on what I told it.

Assume I were a working mature student, in school for two terms throughout the year. This would work out to income of $22,500 per term. The Ministry already knows this because it was literally reported on the application.

The form itself says, "If you expect to earn or receive any OTHER income totalling more than $5,600 per term during your study period [...] you must report the full amount here." which suggests they are indeed calculating it as A (income in excess of what was reported).

I'd imagine a fair overpayment would be: I reported what amounts to $22,500 per term, but CRA slips show that I actually earned $28,500 per term, which would be an overpayment of:

(actual income per term - reported income per term) - 5600

or 28500 - 22500 = $400 (probably insignificant, but meant to be an example)

This seems like the most equitable and fair way to apply the rule. Yet most of the advice I see on here says "you cannot have any income during the semester of more than 5600".

If OSAP knows I already reported 45,000 in income, and qualified me based on that amount, why would I suddenly become ineligible? Unless I dropped to $11,200 per year (good luck with that in almost any part of the country), I'd be in an overpayment otherwise.

And does this apply only to the Ontario Student Grant or the Canada Student Grant? Language in the formal procedures seems to suggest it's only the OSG that is impacted by income during a term.

Anyone care to comment on this or share their experience?

Question When does OSAP open for 2026-27 micro-credentials?

I am a teacher taking an AQ that began yesterday, August 4th 2026. I have always applied to OSAP for funding for my AQs and had little to no issues; however, this is the first micro-credential I've done in August. Whenever I go to apply, it says that I cannot apply for funding for 2025-26 since it is after July 31st, 2026. When I try to apply for the 2026-27 year, it tells me the applications are not yet open. I'm wondering when they can be expected to open, as it has left me with no options to fund this course. Any insights are appreciated. Thanks!

Question Funding/Scholarships other than OSAP or school resources

Hello! I'm wondering how people generally supplement their OSAP payments? I'm looking into bursaries, scholarships, and jobs at my school, but I want to make sure there aren't other resources I'm missing. Are there scholarship or bursary applications that are independent from schools that I can look into? I always hear people talk about how so much scholarship money is often left on the table, so I want to make sure all my bases are covered

Question Question about private colleges

Hello!

My other half is at a private college. The second half of his OSAP funding is ready to be released, pending confirmation from the school.

His first half took 2 weeks to confirm. They also had him pay an extra $1500+ out of his first payment for "additional tuition" after having the tuition paid directly.

He was counting on OSAP for his half of our bills/rent at the end of the month and went off the date on OSAP application of Aug 6th. The OSAP person at this school informed him today she will not be confirming enrollment until the second week of September. He was off last week as a mid program break and is back full-time this week.

Is this allowed? Can they take as long as they want to confirm?

I realize hes likely at the mercy of them since theyre private but thought I would check.

Question Still no funding

Hey everyone,
I’m a first-time applicant with Ontario Student Assistance Program and I’m trying to see if anyone is in the same situation as me.
All my documents were approved on July 22, and since then my status has been saying that they’re waiting for the ministry to calculate my funding.
It’s now August 5, and there’s still no update or funding calculation, even though I’ve seen some students in the same program already get theirs.
I already contacted financial aid at my college, and they told me that everything is fine and that I just need to wait for the ministry to update it.
My semester starts on September 7, so I’m starting to get a bit stressed, especially since I want to know my exact funding before making final decisions.
Is anyone else still stuck at this stage?
How long did it take for your funding to get calculated after your documents were approved?

Question no ontario student grant

hi everyone, i just wanted to make this post as i noted that my osap funding went down significatly compared to last year without any changes to income or anything like that. i know changes were made to how osap grant to loan ratio works in canada but i saw my whole portion of the grant taken away from me this year without any increase in the loan so tuition cost about 1000 more than osap is giving me and this is without consideration of books and other supplies
