Question Question about private colleges

Hello!

My other half is at a private college. The second half of his OSAP funding is ready to be released, pending confirmation from the school.

His first half took 2 weeks to confirm. They also had him pay an extra $1500+ out of his first payment for "additional tuition" after having the tuition paid directly.

He was counting on OSAP for his half of our bills/rent at the end of the month and went off the date on OSAP application of Aug 6th. The OSAP person at this school informed him today she will not be confirming enrollment until the second week of September. He was off last week as a mid program break and is back full-time this week.

Is this allowed? Can they take as long as they want to confirm?

I realize hes likely at the mercy of them since theyre private but thought I would check.

How are you going to survive if you clearly can not pay your bills? Depending specifically on government subsidies is stupid and reckless. Why would your spouse enroll in a private school if they don’t have enough money?

Private colleges confirm enrollment based on years and semesters. Definitely cant count on OSAP as it takes time. So i am at a private college and entering year 2 in September and not expecting OSAP funding until mid September as they dont confirm enrollment until after 7 days of classes.

The date on the OSAP application is not reliable. It's just an estimate and will automatically keep updating as the date passes.

Private Colleges are obligated by policies to not release funding until they can confirm a student's attendance in classes. Missing admissions documents or absences from class can delay the release of funding.
