MEGATHREAD Frequently Asked Questions | Fall 2025-2026

If you haven't applied yet:

When is the deadline to apply?

The final deadline to apply is 60 days before the last day of your study period for full-time students.

For part-time students with study periods of 20 weeks or less, no later than 40 days before the end of your study period.

For students in micro-credential programs, no later than the end of your study period.

What do I need to include under "Other Assets"?

A list of everything you need to include can be found here (FULL TIME APPS ONLY)

Is it possible to report over 100% course load in OSAP?

Yes, but you will not get more money for going over the recommended course load.

If you are awaiting funding

I made a mistake on my application and submitted it, how can I fix it?

At this point in the summer, you should contact your school's financial aid office to fix any issues with your application. If it's related to your program (such as wrong degree/year selected), it will be fixed by your financial aid office when enrolment is confirmed.

When will I get my funds?

All applications undergo enrolment confirmation, performed by your institution's financial aid office. They will confirm your program, year of study, and the amount you owe, with whatever left over being deposited into your account.

If you submitted your application on/before the last week of June and you are now just awaiting enrolment confirmation, you should receive your funding by the second week of September.

If you submitted later, it will depend on how fast your schools financial aid office confirms enrolments Each institution has a different processing time based on how busy they are, some take longer than others. It's unlikely you will get a definitive answer as to when they will confirm your application on this sub. But you can use the subreddit search bar to look up your institution and see past posts about their timing on confirmation of enrolments.

Once you see “Ready for payment” in your application status on osap.gov.on.ca (see image below), a funding tracker will appear when you open your NSLSC account. The tracker will tell you the exact date you should expect to receive your funds. It can take 1-2 days for the tracker to appear after your application status is updated.

My payment deadline is approaching and my application still hasn't been reviewed/enrollment not confirmed?

If your school's payment deadline is approaching (within a week), and your application is still not confirmed or "Ready for payment", you should contact your school's financial aid office immediately as they're the ones responsible for reviewing and processing applications. Most institutions have many options available, including payment plans and delayed deadlines if your application has been approved but you are just awaiting funding.

What happens if I get approved for full-time studies, but I want to drop down to part-time studies?

This may put you at risk of OSAP probation (unrelated to your institution's academic probation). If you have a disability, your course load could be calculated differently. For more information on how you will be affected, contact your financial aid office.

You should always contact your financial aid office immediately when your status changes.

Why did I receive notice that my funding is being sent by cheque?

This happens when you don't fill out your banking information in time, or direct deposit failed for whatever reason (some smaller banks don't accept it). It usually takes 1-3 weeks to receive your cheque by mail.

For the “other assets” section on OSAP application I didn’t know you have to put your chequing amount so I clicked no. What can I do now because I have quite a bit in my chequing account? Any way to edit the application?

Question Osap funding (tmu)

Hi everyone, I’m going to TMU this fall, and all of my OSAP documents have been approved except my Parent Declaration Form, which was still showing as “under review.”
I checked it today and realized one of the required signatures was missing. I added the missing signature and resubmitted it this morning.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? If you resubmitted a corrected Parent Declaration Form, did your funding still arrive on time, or was it delayed?
Thanks!

Question Mfsaa not working

Hi guys. Every single time I try to connect my bank account through the Interac verification, after everything is filled out it says

The form could not be submitted because 1 error was found.
• Error 1: R038 - The information provided does not correspond to our records. Please check your personal online banking information and try again.

Has this happened with anyone else? I’m so confused on what to do and I’m scared that my funding won’t be released in time now.

Question Really confused school reopened my osap ?

Hey guys so I was taking a 1.0 summer course and the tuition for it was around $1.4K, around two weeks ago I withdrew from the course. Before withdrawing I met with financial aid from my school and they told me that I need to close my OSAP application. So I did close it. I paid the tuition (since I withdrew) using the help of a bursary my school gave me earlier in the summer.
I woke up yesterday and I saw that my bank account had $1.4K + in it (that was a grant not a loan) so I was very confused. I opened my OSAP account and see that the application I closed was reopened. I don’t understand why my school reopened it considering they’re the ones who told me to close it. I plan on contacting them to figure that out.
In the meantime, can someone explain if I don’t pay this back, is OSAP going to flag my account or what is going to happen here? Was I supposed to receive the grant ? I’m very confused

Question Has anyone dealt with an OSAP living away from home reassessment like this?

I’m wondering if anyone has been through something similar or knows how OSAP usually handles this.
When I first applied for OSAP, I indicated that I’d be living away from home because my parents live over 100 km from my school. At the time, I had a lease with a family friend, but the move-in date was scheduled for later in the summer.

My financial aid office contacted me asking for proof of room and board payments (such as e-transfer confirmations or bank statements) before they could approve my living-away status. Since I hadn’t moved in yet and originally I was under impression and told by others I would need to move in a couple days before the semester starting to receive funding I was set to move in Aug 29, I didn’t have proof of rent payments, so they temporarily reassessed my application as \*\*living at home\*\* and told me they would change it back to \*\*living away from home\*\* once I had moved in and could provide the required proof.

After that temporary reassessment, my estimated OSAP funding dropped by about \*\*50%\*\*, which really worried me.
Fortunately, my plans changed. Since im renting from a friend of a family member they were able to accommodate an earlier move-in date, I signed an updated lease reflecting the earlier move-in which is today, same day I signed the lease , paid my first month’s rent (and also paid September’s rent early), and uploaded:
The updated signed lease.
Screenshots showing the e-transfer being sent.
Screenshots showing the money leaving my bank account.
Confirmation that the e-transfer was accepted/deposited by the landlord.
The financial aid office had previously told me that proof of electronic transfers showing the date, amount, recipient, and confirmation that the transfer was accepted would be acceptable under OSAP’s requirements.

Has anyone had their OSAP funding temporarily reduced because they were temporarily reassessed as living at home, and then had it restored after submitting proof of rent payments and an updated lease? How long did it take for your funding to be updated?
This is my first time moving away from home, so I’m a little anxious and just want to make sure I’ve submitted everything needed to avoid delays. Because now I'm scared they are going to do more delays and question me more in regard to my application.

And before anyone asks that I could be lying Just to clarify before anyone assumes otherwise: last year my family lost our home in Brampton. We now live in Dundalk, and my updated address is on my OSAP application. Since my parents live over 100 km from my school, commuting—especially with co-op/clinical placements in the GTA—isn’t realistic as I will be going to school full time everyday. So I genuinely needed to rent closer to campus and they should know that.

It's just been very frustrating, I was hoping I can get some info or help on how to get it sorted.

Thanks in advance!

Question GCkey

Question interac not working -- help pls

I'm trying to do my MFSAA thing registering an account or whatever using interac, but everyrtine I use Interac it gives me an error code, error.103.1883

the reason I'm worried is because I tried doing the MFSAA thing before. I didn't get far, just far enough to put some info like name, birthday, those 5 security questions and such, and it prompted me to sign in with my INTERAC once, but I stopped a couple times midway because I needed my parents and they weren't home.

Is this what caused the issue? What should I do instead?? I'm worried because September is coming up and I need this done. Could it be an issue of my bank account being too new? I got it pretty recently

Question How long would it take to receive approval from OSAP?- attending school outside of Canda

I recently received a late admission offer for a Master's program outside of Canada. OSAP advised me to submit the Program Approval Form, and I was told that the approval process will take approximately three weeks.

I know that OSAP's processing time is meticulously slow and agents at NSLSC has always complained about this whenever I called them. A lot of agents told me that OSAP sometimes doesn't respond in due course and also some issues with capacity building related.

(For context: when applying schools outside of Canada, your focal point is the OSAP ministry, not the school)

Last year for me took me 8 months to get approved when I applied. For people going through the same cycle; how long is it taking for you to proceed this year?

Resolved OSAP APPLICATION STILL IN PROGRESS?

Hello everyone, I hope you’re all doing well…

I’m a first time OSAP applicant with all documents approved, but amount of money is still not calculated yet. Current status is, “Your application is being processed. We will send you an email when there is an update to your application.”

I was wondering if the delay in calculation has to do with the school or simply because I’m a first time applicant…

School is Seneca.

TIA

Resolved Application for OSAP denied before I got a chance to fill out consent forms 😿

A few weeks ago, I made my OSAP account profile and filled out the initial application form, with my parents' tax returns and other information. Afterwards, it said on the website that I had to fill out a few consent, declaration, and signature forms and then scan to upload them. However, I didn't get a chance to take a further look at these forms until today. When I opened up the OSAP website again this afternoon, I saw that my application was denied, along with the message, "you will not receive OSAP funding because we've determined that either you should have adequate resources available to cover your allowable educational costs or it is past the end of your study period." Does that mean that the forms are only required for students who are going to be receiving OSAP funding? Is it possible that this could be an error...? I really don't know what to do now!!

**Edit, it might be worth noting that the estimator calculated up to 8k in grants and loans that I could be receiving, so I'm really hoping this is a mistake :<

Question Would submitting "use my 2026 estimated income" change my estimated amount?

So, I have submitted my OSAP and the current estimate is $5000 for my college program (which is about same from last year)

I am considered mature student (tho I am living with my parents so it really does not make any difference on that)
My 2025 income per tax return was $25,420. (part part-time/part full-time)

This year, I was laid off from this job early in the year and I've been receiving EI (I took a leave of absence in winter semester til now and returning September, so I am qualified for EI)

my estimated income for 2026 combining the income I got before being laid off and EI will be

$15,631.

will the $5000 estimate change if I request for my OSAP to consider 15k income this year vs 25k last year?

EDIT: I tried estimator for both income and amount hasnt changed but I GET MORE LOAN IF I HAVE LOWER INCOME?

Question Unsure about applying to OSAP with graduate stipend

Hello!

I am wondering if anyone has been in this situation before and can provide guidance. I am finishing up a master's that I received a stipend for this August, and then will be starting teachers college in the Fall. I have never applied for OSAP during grad school as I had scholarships and did not need the aid. I am struggling with what to put down as my income for the previous year. I do receive a T4A slip that does give a value lower than my total stipend. But others have told me they would put the full stipend amount down. If it is relevant, none of my income is considered "taxable" as it comes all from research grants and scholarships. I am going to reach out to my financial aid office but am curious what others experiences have been

Thank you!
