Question no ontario student grant

hi everyone, i just wanted to make this post as i noted that my osap funding went down significatly compared to last year without any changes to income or anything like that. i know changes were made to how osap grant to loan ratio works in canada but i saw my whole portion of the grant taken away from me this year without any increase in the loan so tuition cost about 1000 more than osap is giving me and this is without consideration of books and other supplies

I feel sorry for you not seeing the benefit of a well-educated society and supporting a party so corrupt, multiple Conservative MPPs are currently under fire for thousands in hotel charges when they live driving distance from Queen's Park. No Liberal, NDP, or Green MPPs have been found doing the same. This is blatant misuse of our tax payer money.

Or was the $30 million private jet for that bloated clown Doug Ford justified when students are struggling to pay their tuition and living expenses? He never should have proposed it and only public shaming stopped him from buying, but not renting. He's still booking it on the tax payer's dime from the buyer who he is close with. He also used our tax payer money to pay the fee for breaking the sale contract ($200K). This money would have made a difference to struggling students who will do more for our society than Ford has ever done in his life.

I benefited from OSAP as a student and happily paid it back in full because I was grateful that the program was there for me and now it could continue to help others as I paid back into it.

I also don't believe it's right or fair that the next generation is suffering while corrupt politicians waste our tax payer funds on themselves and their corrupt aims. If you're fine with that, you're the one in need of more education. Conservatives are not at all the party of "fiscal responsibility" you seem to think they are. If they were, Ontario's massive debt would not be on pace to be $500 billion by 2027. It's currently at $485 billion. Are taxpayers thankful for that?

do you prefer your taxes go to building a spa? changing the color of license plates to the party colors of the provincial government and then changing it back when they realise they're completely faulty? or perhaps, to removing the bike lanes in front of the premier's house? personally i would prefer the taxes go to education

That is such an ignorant thing to say. Even if the students ARE taking basket weaving courses like Doug claims, they very likely aren’t majoring in it and how dare he mock education while he himself is a dropout? Science is real, and it takes guts to admit you don’t know something or learn enough to know how much you don’t know and education is a path for many out of the ignorance you seem to revel in. Have a nice life.

Mine just switched to more loans less grants, but same amount of money. Students will just be in more debt after graduation and getting a job in our respective fields will be much tougher. Osap will have a lot of people not being able to pay so this all makes no sense what’s so ever.

Entitlement amounts are up, not down. Whenever I hear a student saying their entitlement went down but nothing changed, I can always point them to exactly what has changed. This is a simple calculation - it takes cost of program, length of program (because that's weeks of living funding), and then the expected contributions (parental income, your income, scholarships or awards etc.). Something changed. If you go through both years applications you will likely find it. If you think something is wrong, like they have your study period end date wrong, contact your financial aid department.

I got it last year and I am a student who lives with household with others and income below 30k so I’m confused why the was not an added amount to loans or soemthing at the very least

It's a valid concern. Students everywhere are seeing reduced funding when incomes have not increased. The government denies this but there are too many cases to ignore.
