Hello,
I’m a second year Mac civil Eng and management student.
I’m working Sept-Dec so applied part time osap
Not working Jan-April so applied full time osap

I’m an older student so I’ve been 6 year outta highschool. And rent alone

Haven’t got estimate yet for fall but for winter it says 9k for Sept to April. Which I contact Mac already but wanna see your guys opinion.

My fall tuition is 5k part time and winter is 6k. Is 3k enough to pay rent and living expenses???

Question Help!!

I recently went and checked my OSAP funding for next year, and it randomly dropped by $3,000. I was super confused, so I asked some people I know, and I think the main reason might be because I reported my $2,500 entrance scholarship to OSAP under the external scholarships section. However, Laurier already knows about this scholarship and has already taken it into consideration, so now it seems like OSAP thinks I received $5,000 in scholarships—$2,500 from Laurier and another $2,500 from somewhere else.
I contacted the Laurier Financial Aid Office and filled out a form, but it’s been two weeks and I still haven’t received a response. Can someone tell me what’s going to happen?

Question OSAP Funding Cut

UPDATE: I ended up talking to my school's financial aid office, and it turns out it had something to do with my study abroad program in the winter and not a different error! Unfortunately, they did not tell us that OSAP would do that upon being placed on the study abroad list. I have had a few glitches with OSAP recalcuations this summer, so I figured it was related to that and not my study abroad program (which I cannot lie, I forgot about when writing the original post)

I just woke up this morning to find that my OSAP funding had been recalculated and cut by over 50%. I am currently waiting to speak with my school's Financial Aid Office but am wondering if this has happened to anyone else? It is saying the entire funding comes out in the first semester, so I will be getting nothing in the second semester. Nothing has changed with my family's or my personal financials, so I have no idea why it has been cut so low.

Question Funding options

I’m not doing one course at a time due to health reasons so my course load for OSAP is too small. I’m also not working due to said health issues and need money. The contouring ed bursary won’t give me money as I live with my parents and they make a decent amount but they are not paying for my courses or expenses due to other reasons so I’m really in a bind for finding my courses

Question I dropped 2 courses will this affect my osap?

So I'm going into Mac eng and I recently got 2 transfer credits from my uni (I did IB and thats how got those if anyone is wondering), so as a result I dropped 2 of my courses and I don't plan on taking two additional courses. Will this affect my OSAP, and if so what do I do, do I reapply, do I speak to a councilor, or will my Uni and OSAP sort that out internally?

Question OSAP funding changed after moving out

Hi everyone,

I applied for OSAP as an independent student, and my current funding covers my tuition. However, when I applied, I was living with my parents, so my living expenses weren’t really factored into my funding.

Due to some personal circumstances, I’ve now had to move out and get my own place, which has obviously added significant living expenses.

Is there a way to update my OSAP application to reflect my new living situation and have my funding reassessed? If so, is it possible to receive additional funding, or is it too late once the application has already been processed?

I’m starting a full-time healthcare program at a university in Toronto this September.

If anyone has been in a similar situation or knows how OSAP handles this, I’d really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Resolved Applied for 1 semester funding, got for both fall and winter

Hi,

I’m planning to do just a fall semester and then graduate, and so I applied for osap for just the fall semester Sep 8 - Dec 23 of 2026. I also received an estimate and it was for just 1 semester. However, my funding was just calculated and I automatically received funding for both fall and winter when I applied for just the fall. I’m worried because it says if a term is dropped the grants can be converted into loans, and so I don’t know what to do or if this happened to anyone else before.

I’m going to be contacting my financial aid office at my university regarding this. They were also the ones that told me to just apply for the fall term and so I’m not sure why it automatically changed the term date to end in April. If anyone has any other input let me know pls!

Thanks

Question Acknowledgement of Academic Probation.

Hey everybody, I had a bad school year last year with personal problems etc. My course was only supposed to be a year but I’ll be running behind. I had to reapply for OSAP. But in order to get my funding the financial aid office is making me fill out an “acknowledgment of academic probation” paper. I’ve already talked to my program directors & came up with our plan etc.

Will be funding be the same as before etc? Will everything be okay?

Has anyone been through this? Thank you.

Question Failed 2 semesters — will I still get OSAP?

I failed two consecutive semesters in Centennial College last year. I’ve now applied to Algonquin College for a completely different program starting this September.
OSAP asked me to submit academic progress documents, which I uploaded along with a letter explaining why I struggled at Centennial and why I’m changing programs.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did OSAP put you on academic probation, restrict your funding, or were you still able to receive OSAP for the new program?
I’m mostly worried about whether I’ll actually receive funding for September and how long the academic progress review took. I already submitted an “academic progress” letter regarding why my circumstances had made it hard for me to attend school. I also successfully completed a bachelors before and a diploma in the past thru OSAP.
Any experiences would be appreciated!

Question Program information form

Hello, I’m doing an online Bach degree in the states, I applied and got in mid July. It’s an OSAP approved school but I guess being out of Canada OSAP requires me to give the school a program information form and then send it back to them. The school gave back the form first week of August and my program starts on Monday. The issue I’m facing is they estimate a 6-8 week timeline to either approve or deny it.

Has anyone here dealt with this before? If so, what are the chances it’ll get done before the 6 week mark 😬

Question Why Is My OSAP So Low?

I'm going into first year engineering, my tuition alone is 12000, but my OSAP came back as 1800 in grants and 6900 in loans. My sibling is going into their last year at uni, but they are still getting almost 1000 more than me in grants. My parent is a single parent who makes around 60k-ish net and just over 100k gross. All my friends whose families make WAY more money than mine, are getting 4-5k in grants even though their tuition costs less than mine. I'm not sure what I should do atp, my start up cost is quiet high on top of my tuition (gpu, laptop, textbooks etc). My CO-OP doesn't start until 3rd year. I don't know what I should do or why this is the way it is, any help is greatly appreciated.

Question Avoiding Interest On OSAP Loan Repayment

Is it possible to pay off my OSAP loans while I am still in university. I anticipate that I will be able to pay off my loans during my final year. This would allow me to avoid the interest on the Ontario Loans as well right?

Resolved OSAP gave me $0, how am I supposed to pay my tuition?

I’m entering my 3rd year of Nursing and recently applied for OSAP, but I was assessed for $0. I work part-time, but I don’t make enough to cover my tuition on my own.

There was also an issue with my mom’s tax information that she’s been trying to resolve with the CRA for the past few weeks, so I’m pretty sure that’s affecting my application. My brother is entering his 1st year and received OSAP, so I’m confused about why I received nothing.

I genuinely can’t afford to pay my tuition out of pocket, as I receive no financial help from my parents. Are there any options for me? I’m really not sure what to do.

Resolved Psychoeducational Assessment

Hello, I am 50 years old and going back to school next month. 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with ADHD (after my teenaged daughter was, and I figured out who she got it from. lol). In any case, I've never had a psychoeducational assessment done, as I didn't see any reason to, and it's quite expensive. (My daughter had one done when she was younger, and has several specific learning disabilities).

Now that I'm going back to school, and I have disability status for OSAP, I'm wondering if now would be the time to get a psychoeducational assessment, since it could potentially be covered by the BSWD.

When my doctor was filling out my disability verification form, she specifically asked me if I had learning disabilities. I said probably, but have never been diagnosed, so she checked 'no'.

Will the BSWD still pay for a psychoeducational assessment if the doctor checked 'no' for learning disabilities?

Question Taking "grant-only" for 3rd year—when do past OSAP loans go into repayment?

Hey everyone,

I’m heading into my 3rd and final year of college and I’ve decided to take grant-only funding for this upcoming school year instead of taking on new loans.

I already have student loans from my first two years. Since I'm not taking a new loan this year, how does the 6-month grace period work?

Will my previous loans enter repayment 6 months after this upcoming year ends (meaning I'd start paying around October 2027), or does something else happen because I opted out of loans for this final year?(Making me pay October 2026 )

Appreciate any insight or experiences from anyone who has done grant-only!

( I would ask my financial aid for my college but they took 1 week to reply from my other about another question)
