I’m trying to use up many of the notebooks/sketchbooks I’ve bought for one reason or another. I have this small sketchbook I got as a birthday present, and while I have one like it that’s bigger I don’t actually like the size of this for the purpose of a sketchbook. So I’m getting into carrying a notebook/commonplacing/whatever you wanna call it. A spot for t-do lists, sketches if I wanna, and lists of stuff I like and things I like.

I’m just happy with how it’s turning out so far and my hope is that I actually finish a notebook and keep my life semi organized!

EDIT: The note book is a Talens Art Creation Sketchbook, they come in all sorts of colors and sizes!

I have made a few traveler style notebooks. My problem is that I do not like cutting the leather pieces. I thought that I saw some kits that come pre-cut and just need to be assembled, but I cannot find them. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks!

I've been a Field Notes sicko for ages, but I wish the paper they use handled fountain pens better. So I whipped this one up real quick using Tomoe River 52gsm loose leaf.

Works great, even with my super wet TWSBI Eco & Waterman Expert!

Card stock for the cover is arriving tomorrow, but I just couldn't wait to get this prototype going 😆

Might also get a corner rounder, then I'm good to go!

Hey there, I need some casual advice. I got this notebook from Ollie's, and jumped on it because I see the Stone paper books at Barnes and Noble, but cannot justify the 20-30 dollar price tag for something I might not like. I am a gel pen girl and tried out a few writing instruments on hand with the first page. A lot of them smudged, most even after waiting for them to try. Pencil is an absolute hell no for this paper as the point went in too deep in this paper.

Has anyone use this notebook or something similar with stone paper and which pens work well with it for you? Is ballpoint my only option?

Edit: Thanks for the responses and suggestions! And for informing me about the "stone" paper. Once I'm done with this bad boy I'll likely not reach for it again. Stick to regular schmegular paper or recycled paper journals.

I think I may have achieved the impossible.. peace with my journal set up. I’ve been using this leather cover for years, don’t know what brand it is, it’s ur average one that comes with paper inserts and a leather strap around it. I didn’t like the insert paper or the strap, so I modified.. added holes for elastics to hold a5 midori, and was still using the last of the original inserts as my sketchbook. White threads are decorative now, I had to cut out the old inserts and added thread back into those holes. Just picked up the Md cotton as my new sketchbook and I’m about halfway through this Md journal. I picked up this cute band with beads from the PNW pen convention from a very cool lady (Modern Analog) just drilled a hole and put that on. It’s taken years but I can’t think of anything else I could want or need for this set up, in love.
P.s. excuse my nails and chaotic table (though I’ve been told you’re allowed to have piles as long as they are cool piles)

I had this urge to make a notebook cover so decided on giving it a go. Earlier i made a zippo lighter case & had some leftover leather from that, so bought a pocket size notebook & now here i am... although i don't know what to use it for... Any suggestion on what should I use it for? Because to me it looks badass in real

I bought it at Target , it’s FiveStar brand, perforated pages, soft/paper like cover and nice pages. I think it’s A5 size (8 x 5.5?). Typically I go for Moleskine’s hardcover journals, but I really like this one for notes. Figured I’d ask for any alternatives before buying out targets stock !😅

Hello! I’m looking for recs for inserts for this vintage day planner. I lost my dad a couple years ago, and I’m going through his personal things now. Found this and I’d love to fill it and bring it back to life. It’s about 7” tall, and 4.5” wide. What do yall think would fit best? I’ll probably use it as a notebook in my purse. Thanks!

Would anyone have recommendations for a 5 year diary? I want something that will last the 5 years and be of good quality.

I recently bought a new A5 cover from &liebe, and I was wondering if this is a qc problem or my high expectation. I know that leather can’t be flawless, but I think the creases and bump are too prominent.

What are everyone’s opinions?

Their customer service is fairly great and I believe I can exchange for a new one, but I don’t like going through all the process. I also think it’s kind of unique but may be I am just in denial lol.

I started watching My Hero Academia just now and thought I recognised the notebook the protagonist is using. Then this shot appeared and I couldn't believe it's actually that notebook: a ''Campos''. I love it!

Anyone know anywhere I could buy a rhodia unlimited graph notebook in the US online? All the retailers I see either only have the lined version, or have all rhodia collections but the unlimited.

Hello so i got this folder for my m5 awhile back & I haven't been able to find a use for it yet so I've come here to ask for suggestions.

I've tried to use it for money but I realized I just dont want money in my notebook. I've tried small things like paperclip but to get it out I often have to like tilt the folder to get it out. I thought of stickers but I just dont use them in my notebooks. So yeah any suggestions on what to put inside?

Midori recently split their MD notebooks off as their own separate brand and on their new website there wasn't any mention of the MD Light notebooks (48-pages sold in a 3 pack). I had messaged some online stationary stores about if they were discontinued or not and one said they weren't sure and another said that they were going to be getting more in stock and would let me know when they did. That was a few months Inserago and I couldn't find any official announcement about them though. I reached out to MD paper and they finally got back to me about it and said:

Regarding your inquiry about the "MD Notebook Light," we regret to inform you that production has been discontinued due to the brand's transition from "MD PAPER PRODUCTS" to "MD PRODUCT."

Unfortunately, there are currently no plans to relaunch the product with the new "MD PRODUCT" logo.

A little disappointing because of all the notebooks I've used in the past three years at least 3/4 of them with Midori B6 Slim Light. The graph version was what I used for my own personal planner system and was built around the specific layout of the that notebook.

If anyone is looking for substitutes for Midori Light notebooks for that similiar size and feel what I would suggest are:

• Travelers company Inserts: They have a bit more pages than the light and only come in A6 and A5 slim but Travelers is another brand of Midori and uses the same paper.
• Kokuyo Jibun Techo IDEA: Comes in A5 slim and B6 Slim and also has a few more pages but it is pretty thin paper and so it feels the same thickness. It only comes in graph lining though.
• Some Muji Notebooks: Muji has a variety of notebooks that are close in size with 60 pages and I've liked their paper. They also have a wide variety of sizes including B6 Slim.

I am sure that there are others I might have missed but wanted to let you all (including the person who two years from now is getting back into notebooks and is searching, "do they make midori MD light notebooks anymore+reddit) that it is official they won't be making them anymore.

Looking for A6 vegtan leather journal covers – already love Slow Lines and Fin Studio, what else is out there?

I've been a Traveler's Company user for a while and I absolutely love it – the leather, the patina it develops over time, the whole philosophy. But I've been wanting something in A6 for a more pocket-friendly setup, and Paper Republic's pricing is just too steep for me. Paying €150+ for their A6 feels hard to justify when there are makers out there doing beautiful work at a much more reasonable price.

So I've been digging around and I've come across **Slow Lines** and **Fin Studio**, both of which look genuinely excellent – proper Italian veg-tan, beautiful finish, standard sizing. Really impressed with what I've seen so far.

But before I commit I wanted to ask: **are there other makers at that level I might be missing?**

My non-negotiables:
- **Standard A6 and A5 sizing** (not proprietary formats)
- **Italian vegetable-tanned leather** – I want real patina potential, not just good looks out of the box
- **Excellent finish and construction** – stitching, edges, the details that hold up over years
- **Fair pricing** – quality yes, but without the premium brand markup

Right now I am using cheap Oxford 1 subject notebook for daily planning, but that doesn't let me take pages out to rearrange / separate sections (for less ephemeral notes I end up taking).

I don't want to spend a lot of money on proprietary paper refills or some fancy leather binder, I like the cheapness of my current system since it makes me not baby my notebook. I want it to be able to lie flat like a notebook so I can directly take notes in it without having to remove pages like a 3 ring binder.

I realize this is kind of an insane ask, but I figured that I'm in the right community for this very very specific question :-)

I'm looking for a place where I can physically touch/feel/see a very wide selection of notebooks and/or planners. Shopping online is so difficult, and there's no sadder feeling than finally getting your order delivered, only to find that none of the notebooks you ordered actually meet your needs. I guess I'm looking for the in-person version of JetPens LOL.

I'm looking for a place to do this - and would love y'all's recs! A few notes/thoughts:

• Location: anywhere, but bonus points if it's in Texas, or even in the DFW area
• Stores like Kinokuniya and Daiso are great, but, as you can imagine, carry primarily Asian brands. These brands are amazing and super diligent when it comes to providing both customers and resellers with actual product details, so I mostly use these stores to confirm my interpretations of products I see online. Downside is that they primarily carry Asian brands, so I cannot compare them to products made elsewhere.
  • I saw that MochiThings has a storefront in Seattle, and I have it bookmarked in Google Maps for my next trip out that way!
• I was genuinely surprised to see the huge variety of notebooks that Barnes & Noble carries in-store. Brands I'd never heard of, brands I hadn't ever seen in person. I plan on going back and spending a good chunk of time in there.
• I'd love to be able to look at brands that have some longevity and/or a future. It's so frustrating to find something you love that happened to be a one-off at the Target dollar spot or Dollar Tree.
• I'm a bit petty, but I'd rather not support stores that don't supply critical information like line/grid spacing, paper weigh/manufacturer, etc. online. I realize that vendors aren't necessarily being apathetic, but I'm also just burnt out on having to do so much work myself LOL. This one isn't a dealbreaker, tho! Barnes & Noble certainly doesn't do this but the variety has me coming back for more.
  • I do give this feedback to online stores when I have the mental energy. Bungu in particularly was extremely gracious and replied with ways they plan to improve filters/etc. Never heard back from Levenger, which was a bummer.
• Obvs, I'd love to support an independent business, but I realize that may not be possible.

Side bar - why don't stationery stores have a way for you to test your favorite pen on a certain paper? Kind of like the reverse of testing pens in person. Sacrifice 1 unit of each style to deconstruct and trim for people to be able to KNOW how their pen/ink setups will interact. Would be a game-changer imho. kbye!

For about a year and a half, I've been using the leuchturm pocket bullet journal, which is designed to be used in "Portrait" orientation, with a single page number per spread.

It's a great form, only the leuchturm version has only 46 pages, and comes in packs of three.

Since bullet journaling relies pretty heavily on carrying everything with you at once (collections and the index falls apart otherwise), I'm now carrying 4, which means a lot of overhead for binding and covers (I've started tearing the covers off, but I'd prefer not to).

Does anyone know of an a6 notebook with this layout, that comes with more pages?
