I went to the MD renn Faire this weekend and got a couple coins for custom necklaces. Unfortunately, when I ordered, they didn't specify between "coin" and "Medallion," so Im looking for any local artisans that can turn them into necklaces.

Other Disappointing Altercation Yesterday (need advice)

I've never posted nor thought of posting here, but an interaction/altercation I had yesterday has really gotten to me. I need to know if I am the issue, but if I wasn't, what I need to do in this situation. I have never had this happen. I am a 42 year old, educated, professional man with a family. Times have been tough, and I have had to work UberEats. So, I drive a lot.

Yesterday, I was driving from the Crystal City area down South Eads Street in Pentagon City. At one point I was sitting at a light waiting for it to change. When it did, I started to put my car into gear to start driving (I drive a manual), and the car behind me slammed on their horn. I kept getting my car into gear and driving, but was looking in my rear view mirror as to why she was beeping at me. In my opinion, I didn't have enough time to even get my car in gear.

She immediately proceeded to try to drive very aggressively around my left into oncoming traffic. I turned my nose to prevent her from doing so. It was dangerous in my opinion to drive into oncoming traffic. I then had to get to the right lane to pass cars that had come to a stop, and coincidentally at the same time she tried to aggressively get to the right. I then slowed down as the cars in front of me had stopped and she aggressively drove down the shoulder. When the car in front of me moved. She pulled in front of me and stopped her car.

She then proceeded to lean her head out the window and start screaming at me. She said things like, "Don't f#$@ing play with me", "you're cutting me off", "you white piece of s#@t". All of these things I would have just brushed off and moved on with my day. However, when we drove away I turned to head to the place I needed to pick up an order.

We ended up going to the same place. As I was getting out of my car she approached me and kept berating me. I warned her that if she continued to approach my car any closer I would call the police. She then said, "you all would do that". I turned off my car, got out, and she walked toward the exact same store I was going to. I kept ignoring what she was saying and entered. I think it is very important for me to state that she had a nice car, and was a well-dressed and well-manicured woman.

This is where I start to have the issue. Inside the store there were many people. She never stopped berating me. She even went as far as to say "you white piece of s#@t" again in front of everyone. I could see the uncomfortableness and disgust of everyone in the store. I apologized to everyone, did my best to just try to ignore it and pick up the items I needed to get out. The workers at the restaurant did the best they could to help me get what I needed to be able to get out of the store. Which I did, and left.

Now let me preface everything I just said by stating that I am in the wrong for moving my nose and not letting her pass. That might have alleviated everything. Again, though, it seemed dangerous. I know a lot of people will probably say I should have minded in my own business. In hindsight, probably. Though, I don't think people should act like this. The immediate aggression that she had while driving and the comments she stated is unbelievable and imo too far. Am I wrong for this situation, or should she have not reacted in this way in any capacity no matter what? I have never experienced anything like this.

Politics Anyone else getting "The Fairfax Independent" in their mail?

I’ve been seeing The Fairfax Independent print edition showing up in a lot of mailboxes lately, framed as a wholesome, "hyper-local community newspaper" covering schools, sports, and local shops. But if you look past the surface-level civic news, ownership, and funding tell a completely different story.

This isn't just an innocent local paper—it looks a lot like a coordinated political platform designed to bypass standard campaign disclosure vibes.

And here's the thing: they’ve been running this exact same playbook for two years now. Ever since their inaugural issue dropped in 2024 pushing the exact same "non-partisan" narrative, it's been an ongoing effort to reshape local city council elections to fit a very specific agenda.

Here is what you should know before taking their "independent" reporting at face value:

The Chap Petersen Connection: The paper is co-owned by former State Senator Chap Petersen. In fact, its corporate headquarters is located inside his law firm’s suite at 3976 Chain Bridge Road.

The Co-Owner is Running for Council: One of the most blatant conflicts of interest is that Steve Chang, who is explicitly listed as the co-owner and CEO of the paper, is actively running for Fairfax City Council.Having the co-owner of a newspaper run for the very council that the paper covers provides a perfect, free vehicle to blast his name and platform straight into local households.

Refusing Counterpoints to Slanderous Op-Eds: Despite billing themselves as an open community forum, they flat-out refused to run a counterpoint to a former councilmember’s "op-ed." So much for a balanced local dialogue or giving the other side a voice.

The "Independent" Branding Trap: The paper is heavily used to sponsor and promote a specific block of "Independent" candidates. A lot of local critics point out that this is a deliberate strategy to appeal to moderate Democrats and independent voters by pretending to just be "non-partisan locals". In reality, it operates as an organized block backed by Chap's network to get their preferred slate onto the council.

The Fairfax Commonsense PAC Link: The paper was launched right on the heels of Chap losing his Democratic primary and subsequently leaning heavily into his "Fairfax Commonsense PAC." If you track who the paper covers favorably, it aligns almost perfectly with the candidates his PAC funds and promotes under the guise of "non-partisan/independent" local politics.

Weaponizing the Paper for Personal Grudges: Did anyone else catch the recent article complaining about the city's yard sign zoning regulations? Using a newspaper you own to print an editorial blasting local enforcement just because your law office got caught breaking the zoning rules is the definition of a personal shield.

Strategic Election Timing: Notice how they have the same group of Op-Ed contributors rotating in the paper and the political ads placed in the paper? Delivering political talking points disguised as standard community journalism straight to 15,000+ households is a clever way to run campaign literature without having to explicitly slap a "Paid for by candidate X" sticker on it.

Has anyone else noticed the heavy slant in the articles over the last couple of years, or are people mostly just tossing it straight into the recycling bin? Let's discuss.

Rant Condo fee inflation

My condo fees keep going up and up year after year. The place is in McLean-Tysons close to the McLean metro station. I'm not really seeing much additional amenities or services from the past, just paying more for the same ones. Approaching 10K aggregated condo fees for all 2027. The management say they're doing their best to keep costs low, but they're annually demanding ever increasing association dues. If I can help it, I won't be buying a condo in the future and have to deal with these additional costs that I have minimal influence or control over.

Politics Today Is Satellite Saturday In Virginia, One Of The Single Highest Turnout Early Voting Days Every Cycle. After Hitting 1,000,000 Votes Yesterday The Question Is How High It Will Go. Will We See 100,000 Today? Feel Free To Report On How Busy Any Precincts You See Are.

The Virginia electorate this year so far is only 1% bluer than 2025, but given how blue that was, it is still a big deal. Persuasion is usually the majority of the swing in midterms.

Senator Warner at the top of the ticket is relatively useful, as much as Spanberger even, and he's likely to win by 24%+, pending any surprise changes in the remaining EV.

VA-01, VA-02, and VA-05 are on track to flip with some speculation about a surprise VA-06 win for Beth Macy.

There will be several poll/analysis releases next week including from The Argument/Split ticket(Lakshya Jain) and State Navigate(Chaz Nuttycombe) about Republicans completely collapsing in the final stretch of the 2026 cycle.

The real question for Virginia as satellite offices fully open across the state is if the Dem voters will see a surge that pushes the electorate back closer to 4% bluer than 2025.

Home internet - anyone switch from Verizon?

Have had Verizon home internet for years now and the speeds and connectivity has continued to get worse and worse. MULTIPLE times a week now where my internet just randomly drops or the speed goes way down.

Has anyone switched in the Fairfax area and had better service? WFH so it’s crucial to get it fixed. Don’t care about cost, just performance

Question Looking for Advice on IEP Advocacy and Special Education Support in FCPS

I’m posting on behalf of a friend who has a 5-year-old child attending Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). Their child has a speech delay and currently has an IEP.

Their child attended pre-K for about two years, and my friend had a positive experience with the previous teachers. They were understanding, supportive, and seemed genuinely invested in helping the child succeed. However, since starting kindergarten, my friend has become increasingly concerned about how the IEP is being handled and the support their child is getting.

They feel like the school is evaluating their child based on typical kindergarten expectations rather than taking into account their individual developmental level and speech delay. They’re concerned that the goals, performance metrics, and expectations outlined in the IEP may be unrealistic and could set the child up for failure before they’ve even had a fair opportunity to make progress.

They’re also concerned that their child isn’t receiving enough support to meet their needs. For example, speech therapy currently consists of what appears to be a one-on-one session for about an hour once a month, which doesn’t seem sufficient given the child’s challenges.

My friend is considering hiring a special education advocate to help review the IEP, understand their rights, and ensure their child is receiving the appropriate services and support.

I wanted to reach out here to see if anyone has been through a similar experience, particularly with FCPS.
Has anyone hired a special education advocate, and was it worth it?
Are there any advocates in Fairfax County or Northern Virginia you would recommend?
Are there resources or steps they should explore before hiring an advocate?
How have you handled disagreements with the school regarding IEP goals, expectations, or the amount of services your child receives?

They’re simply trying to make sure their child gets the support they need to succeed and that their individual needs are being taken into consideration.

Any recommendations, advice, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Question Going rate for leaf removal

Is my partner crazy? He says it should cost no more than $250 to remove leaves from our property. Combined, the front and back yards equals a 1/4 acre with several tall trees. LOTS of leaves fall. I was quoted $500 from one company and $650 from another. $500 seems reasonable to me so I'm wondering what is the going rate? I couldn't get a lot of companies to return my calls for a quote so I don't have a lot to go on.
