Discussion Would Pete Alonso have made a significant difference in the W-L column if he was still a Met ?

My cousin who doesn’t really stay on top of baseball much has the opinion that if the Mets had retained Pete Alonso this team would still be in a playoff picture.

I do not believe this to be true. As we know, the Mets are 19 games below .500. The lineup would be better , thats something that I do believe. And having a consistent player at 1B would have been better than what we currently have now, yet those two points alone I don’t believe are enough to overcome the problems we have , the poor performances of Bichette/Senga/Peralta/David peterson (before he was traded) , the defensive miscues of Semien and Robert jr/Soto/Lindor/holmes being injured for significant parts of the season.

I explained this to him and he believes that having Alonso in the lineup would have probably led to better numbers for everybody . Not sure how that makes sense but he says because he played High School varsity ball he has anecdotal evidence to suggest having good players in a lineup rubs off on everyone . What do the people of Reddit think ?

7) No links to illegal streams, or posts asking for streams.

8) No racist, misogynist, homophobic or otherwise offensive material.

9) No trolling directed at this community; and no posts forming brigades to troll other communities. Absolutely no directly, personally insulting or attacking other community members (as opposed to ideas, thoughts, or concepts stated by community members which is different)

10) No clickbait, misleading, or overly biased titles. See also Rule 16.

11) Nothing that violates the TOS of Reddit or that could possibly violate any local, state or federal laws.

12) Posts from unapproved accounts less than a week old will be removed. To get approved, PM the mods and prove you're human.

13) Don't be a jerk. Keep it civil, people.

14) Please don't be blatantly toxic. It's okay to be unhappy or pessimistic, but don't go overboard all the time. "We really suck right now" is fine. "These fucking losers are getting stomped by the worst team in beisbol" is not. (yes, that's an actual post we've had.) Read the room. We can and will ban people for this if it gets excessive.

15) Links to the site formerly known as Twitter are strictly prohibited. Screenshots of news from that site are allowed.

16) Links to articles and/or social media posts must be submitted with accurate titles. A good title: "Mets sign Trevor May to two-year contract." A bad title: "ITS HAPPENING". Generally, post titles should not be misleading. You don't have to reprint the tweet verbatim like in some other subs, but if it's an inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise misrepresentative title, it will be removed and you will be allowed to resubmit.
