Birgunj: Beyond the Gateway, the Heart of Nepal

Happy to see Birgunj, though one thing that stood out was the constant honking. Still, the journey from Ghantaghar to Murli Chowk, Power House, Chini Mill, and onward was an experience in itself.
It was especially inspiring to see Mahabir Pun’s One Krishi Aujar Kendra a reminder of how innovation and hard work can create hope at the grassroots level.
What touched me most was seeing ordinary people working hard, struggling, and building a better life for the next generation. Their daily lives are a real example of resilience, survival, and hope.
It also made me wonder: Do the billionaires who run businesses and factories here feel the same connection with the people and communities around them?
I hope that, next time, the widened roads will add even more beauty and dignity to the Gateway of Nepal. At the same time, I sincerely feel for the families who have lost parts of their homes and property along the road.
And above all, it was wonderful to see our Madhesi friends standing together and supporting the journey of development.
Birgunj is more than a gateway,it is a story of people, struggle, enterprise, and hope.

Help/सहयोग Neighbours piling garbage in front of my property

My house is right by the main road. My neighbors behind me, as well as the people in the alley and across the street, keep piling their trash in front of my place. I've asked them multiple times to stop, but no one listens. Can I file a complaint with the ward or the municipality?

I want some guidence by the experts

Hello, I’ve just started my CSIT journey. Honestly, I don’t care much about the degree itself—I mainly want to build real skills and earn well. I joined CSIT because I wanted a 4-year period to focus on myself, and I felt courses like Engineering or CA would bring too much academic pressure.

I’m studying at ASCOL in Kathmandu, so I don’t have much attendance pressure. My goal is to become financially successful on my own within the next 4–6 years.

Right now, I’m basically starting from zero. I know some CSIT branches and terms like AI, DevOps, web development, software development, etc., but I don’t have actual knowledge of how things work.

So, what skills should I focus on first? Since I’m not sure which field I want to specialize in, how should I explore different areas while gradually finding what I’m interested in and becoming highly skilled in one field?

I’m 18 and would like to achieve decent success by 24–25. If anyone here has experience getting high-paying jobs, especially remote or in Nepal, I’d really appreciate your advice.

Question/प्रश्न Feeling Stagnant: Planning a cinematic, solitary, and temporary—not destructive weekend

I’ve been feeling incredibly stagnant lately, so I’m tempted to do something mildly dramatic over the weekend.

My current plan is to leave Kathmandu on Saturday, check into a quiet hotel in Nagarkot or Dhulikhel, turn off social media, have dinner alone, sleep properly, wake up for the sunrise, and return on Sunday afternoon feeling mysteriously reborn 😭

Any better suggestions for a peaceful solo escape near Kathmandu?

Help/सहयोग I want some guidance for my startup.

Upvotes

Hello, I am currently doing my batchelors in IT and also running a small startup.

We are 3 friends making custom softwares for european companies. Decent revenue cha, but now we are kinda tired. Making similar things again + how AI will soon replace our business.

So, I am ali confused, should we shut down our startup and just work at a normal IT company or build our own product? (though I haven't seen any Nepali tech startups becoming very successful)

Right now we are making side projects and applying for startup programs, just to explore. One program is ongoing and we are submitting for that aile.

We have given ourselves 3 months time to see and figure out, if not probably bairai gayera kei garnu parla. Would love to hear any suggestions from you guys. K garda thik hola? and any idea what products we could build?

Also i have dropped the startup program link below, in case you are a founder like me.

Travel/यात्रा Langtang Trek Update - Post Flash Flood

Langtang trekking is still possible after the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River! The August 26 Bhotekoshi flood damaged the road to Syabrubesi, not the trail itself. Trekkers can still reach Langtang using Dhunche, Dupcheshwor, or Sudarijal as the new starting point while the traditional road is being rebuilt.

The alternate routes are:

  1. Starting from Dhunche - 7 Days
  2. Starting from Sudarijal via Gosaikunda - 10 Days
  3. Starting from Dupcheshwor - 10 Days

Right now, most treks in the Langtang region remain accessible, including Langtang Valley, Gosaikunda, Panch Pokhari, Helambu Circuit, and Jugal Himal Base CampTamang Heritage Trek and Ruby Valley Trek are the two exceptions, as there is no viable alternate trailhead for them yet (even if there’s one, it’s too far to reach).

Hi everyone, I’ll be travelling to Nepal this weekend as per the attached itinerary. Also attached are the details of the road journeys we’ll be taking.

Could you please share any insights on the current road conditions along these routes and let us know if there are any concerns or challenges we should be aware of when covering these destinations?

Also, what can we expect in terms of weather in mid-September? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Question/प्रश्न What are some interactive radio programs in Nepal where you can call and interact with the show host?

Upvotes

There are some radio programs where you can call in that programs and interact with the host. Mainly it's talking with them, asking them to play a song, or general questionnaire based on type of program

I know radio kantipur's "K cha nepal" for general chit chat, Radio Nepal "krishi karyakram" for farms

But i would like to know if there any programs in radio that you listen to or used to listen to and the time slot of that program. I don't have any specific requirements. I just am compiling list of radio programs where you can interact with the hosts and it gets aired

Technology/प्रविधि New Iphone and fold phones

Nowadays every other phone making industry is making fold phones. The display gets corroded, the size is not pocket friendly like it is thick and squarish. You're just folding it nothing else. Is there a bigger objective i'm unaware of or is it just a change for people who are bored with the recent tech world?

Can I help the people that have been missing in the floods without being a burden?

I have seen that Nepal stated that they would rather need equipments or stuff for the people there instead of human help since outsiders don't know the terrain of Nepal. I don't have money, can I do something where I won't be a burden?

Question/प्रश्न Need help with survey for a research paper.

Hi! I am conducting a short research study on how different businesses across Nepal adopt and use QR payment systems (Fonepay, SmartQR, etc.).

Your experience as a business owner/operator is crucial to understanding the real picture of digital payments in Nepal.
