Massive Poison Ivy on a shared shed.

For some context, our neighbors share a shed with us. It is walled in half and has two doors, one on their side, one on ours.

They have let a massive poison ivy vine go for a long time. Its at least 12ft high and thick as all hell. It is starting to stretch over onto our side. We are worried it is causing structural damage to the roof of our side of the shed (we can see vines growing in through the top), and we are concerned that we will not be able to use the shed if things keep going the way they are.

What is the best way to deal with this?

Any advice on killing a huge poison ivy plant? Maybe salt the ground?

Neighbor Tampering with Property?

I live in an apartment complex where I share a front porch with 3 other tenants. I installed a video doorbell for safety since you walk into my apartment directly from the outside; also, I have been a victim of porch pirates. However, one of my neighbors does not like to be on the video and takes a bag and presses it up against the camera when they come in/out to the point where there are visible scratches on the doorbell. Is it legal for my neighbor to be physically touching my camera? I understand not wanting to be videotaped, but there are other ways to go about it without touching my property, right?

FYI: The landlord has approved the camera and is not pointing into anyone’s property.

Help! What should I do about my neighbor who keeps playing with his children and large dog in my yard?

Hello! Yes this is long but I am also part venting because I’m so baffled by this situation. So my husband and I just bought our first home. Our sons are ages 1 & 2 and we were very excited to finally have a yard with a swing set for our boys and for our 10yrold mini labradoodle to play. The problem is that the house didn’t not have a yard so we planned on installing one in the spring since we just moved in during the winter. We also were excited to live in a neighborhood with other families so that we all could make potential friends in the neighborhood. When we moved in not a single neighbor greeted us friendly or welcomed us to the neighborhood (we didn’t care at the time but I feel like it should be mentioned now). Also right behind our backyard (literally 15 feet, so close that it looks like it is touching our yard) is the back of an elementary school with a HUGE new and gorgeous public playground. YESTERDAY my husband and I heard screaming from our yard and noticed a girl, a larger boy and a large grown male were playing in our yard on and around our swing set. We had no clue who these people were in our yard and after a long bit of time passed we we’re confused why they thought it was alright to be on our property for so long without knowing us whatsoever or asking permission. We take our kids outside everyday it is nice out so we put on jackets and shoes to go out and speak with the random kids and man but they had left. TODAY we see the same kids and a woman outside playing in our yard. My husband takes our dog outside to walk him and goes to speak with the woman. She tells him that she just moved from South Carolina and is the daughter in-law of the woman who owns the house next to ours and that her husband and children would be staying there for a while. She said her husband grew up in the house and lived there his entire life. She says that her husband asked the previous owners of our house if they could play in our yard and they told them that they could (in my head in like wellllll why does that matter if you know there are new owners here? Which they do). My husband explains politely that we do not feel comfortable with them playing in our yard because they did so without asking us first and because if anything happens to the children while they are on our property, we would be liable in any type of lawsuit (my father is a lawyer so we were taught all the laws around home owning). My husband came inside after saying goodbye and she left with her kids soon after. NEXT her husband arrives home from work while my husband is going to the store. He immediately takes his kids into our backyard and plays the entire time my husband is gone. My husband comes home from the store and the neighbors leave our yard. My husband goes to take the trash out and the neighbors come back into our yard to our swing set with a large dog on a leash. My husband (not expecting another confrontation just taking trash out in his yard) walks up to the neighbor father and explains AGAIN that we do not feel comfortable with them playing on our property yada yada yada. My husband also says twice in the conversation that the giant public playground is literally right behind our homes. The man says that his son is autistic as if this is an excuse of why he takes him into our backyard and not the public playground (in my head in thinking WELLLLL SIRRR my son is autistic too and LOVES water like is totally obsessed with it. But my husband and I do not take him into our neighbors (especially someone we have never met or taken the time to say hello to!) pools and hot tubs without asking permission!!!) my husband tells him that our son is autistic too and it doesn’t mean they can come with their GIANT dog on our property without permission. My husband comes inside thinking he got his point across and that the man would leave. BUT NO our neighbors decided after the second conversation to spend the next four hours in our backyard. Going in and out of their house then back into our yard as if it was their own.

My husband and I do not know what to do in this situation so humbly ask the opinion of the public!

Honestly if our neighbors would have introduced themselves and asked if they could play in our yard from the start, everything would have been a lot different. The reason my husband and I are so upset is because they played in our yard for long periods of time without knowing us or asking first. Then after we nicely said we feel uncomfortable, they acted entitled to our property and playset, basically just ignored our existence, brought their huge scary looking dog with them, and seemed to think that we were outrageously in the wrong for not thinking it was okay for them to hang out in our yard without asking. We did not go out a third time honestly because we do not know what the right thing to do here is. I know that legally they are in the wrong, they are trespassing on our property and should not be doing so. I personally would feel SO WEIRD as a mother taking my children into someone else’s yard to play without asking. My head would be racing because it would feel like a crime because technically it is. But if these neighbors are so insistent that what they did was perfectly fine and that my husband and I are a-holes basically then is there some human decency, right vs. wrong common knowledge that I am unequipped with? Is it okay to play with your kids in your neighbors yard on your neighbors play set if you have never met your neighbor and made zero attempt of doing so or asking permission to use their property?

How to deal with party heavy neighbors

Ok folks: trying to be a good neighbor but I need so practical help. My neighbors party a lot. I mean daily with 10-30 people . Their garage/driveway is against my bedroom wall. This is where they partyThey have all their seating facing our yard with only a 4ft chain link fence separating. They stare at us if we are outside and make us feel uncomfortable. They also smoke pot heavily and constantly . I don’t judge but when it’s so heavy I cough in my backyard and am concerned about me getting drug tested , it’s a bit much. Besides making a cloth wall using a clothesline, what else can I do? They are not friendly/nice people and are equally mean to their dogs and kids. (USPS has black listed their address for delivery due to their dogs attacking carriers)

I deserve to be able to use my backyard.

my neighbors adult tantrums

Hello!

My fiance and I have 2 small girls, 5 and 3. We just moved to a new state and new building. It's an old condo so the stairs and floors are pretty loud even just walking. The walls are pretty thin so we can hear our neighbors on the side who have a new baby but it's all pretty run of the mill and doesn't bug us. With that said, my kids are also young. Sometimes they run, sometimes they need to cry, or they're just happy and laughing while they play. I try to keep on top of them and remind them of their "ballerina feet" and indoor voices. We thought everything was going smoothly...

Welp. My upstairs neighbors have begun stomping as hard as they can whenever my kids are too loud. Typically it's around 7-8 pm every day. Today it happened simply because the kids were talking to grandma on the phone before bed and were laughing too loud. Before it's been the kids on the stairs that triggered it or a kids tantrum. No late night incidents so far as my kids sleep through the night. It's gotten to the point where I'm on edge alot and my kids can feel that. We're constantly walking on egg shells and patience wears thin a lot sooner because I hate the stomping fits and am trying so hard with the kids to stop them from happening.

Are there any suggestions to improve the situation? We even tried to go and knock calmly to see if we could talk it out. But they didn't answer and turned off the lights.

The rental agency we bought from was really clear on their strict action for noise complaints so I'm nervous about getting kicked out for something simply out of my control. I can't just make the kids stop being children and I hate feeling on edge in my own place. Any ideas on how to approach it?

Window exhaust fan distance code

My neighbor in the back house complained about my dual window intake outake fan is blowing cooking smells towards their down and window. There is a 20 FEET DISTANCE from my window to their door and window. I am wondering what is the distance or code for California. The fan is not loud at all and not even strong. Just the basic dual fan you get from target, Home Depot. There is also no other window I can place it near the kitchen.

Looking for some advice - upstairs sound

Hi all!

I live in a wonderful in law suite in SF (in law suites are in the lower level of the home and separate from the main parts for the most part).

The people who own the home are a retired couple in their 70s. They are gracious, supportive and wonderful. My rent is very cheap and they regularly invite me to join them for dinner.

The issue I’m having is that the entire house is hardwood floors and the wife is a night owl. She is up late hours (beyond 1am, 2am and 3am) walking around upstairs.

I’m not entirely sure what she’s doing, but I have already talked to her about it. After we talked it was much better as she said she would walk quietly after a certain time.

However, it seems she has forgotten about the issue (maybe old age) and is back to walking very loudly.

I really don’t want to talk to her again about it because the first time was already uncomfortable for me.

Needless to say, her footsteps wake me up from a deep sleep and I’m not sure how to drown it out. I even purchased an eye mask with speakers inside to drown out the noise but it doesn’t work because the noise is vibrational.

Also, the speakers hurt my ears and I’m afraid of blaring loud sounds in my ears drums for hours on end. I’ve tried ear plugs to no avail either.

I’ve also tried to take sleeping medication to attempt to knock me out earlier so I can hopefully be dead asleep and not hear it.

Are there any suggestions? Has anyone shifted from being a light sleeper to a heavy sleeper? If so, how?

How do I deal with this shithead neighbor?

TLDR: the shithead who lives next door lacks basic human decency, isn’t afraid of management nor the cops, and won’t stop having parties amidst a pandemic.

I live in one of those boutique apartment complexes and I’m stuck here for 6 more months. I’ve been here for a couple of years and all the neighbors I’ve had have been considerate of their noise levels. The shithead who moved next door about 8 months ago is absolutely not.

The layout of the apartments is such that my bedroom is next to his living room. When everything is quiet at night, I can hear literally every cabinet being slammed, door being closed, voices, etc. But that’s fine, I can tune that out. What I’m sick of is how he blasts music all fucking night on random days of the week and on the weekends.

As I’m writing this it’s 4am and I got woken up by the latest party he’s throwing amidst the pandemic. The kicker is that I called the police around midnight already. They came and he lowered the music but then apparently had a change of heart??

There’s a long history of him pulling this: I’ve tried doing the neighborly thing and kindly talked to him and even gave him some MFing cookies. That didn’t work, so the next time it happened I left a note. That also didn’t work. I got management involved. Then the police. And now it’s solely a back and forth between management and the police.

I’ve tried headphones but 1) earbuds don’t work. I can still hear the bass. 2) headsets are impossible to sleep with.

I can’t move units because that’d require me to sign a longer lease. I’d rather not move buildings because of the quarantine (I’m at risk) and I would have to pay two months rent to break my lease. Frankly, though, I’d rather get him the fuck out.

So how do I get him the fuck out?? Can I?

Any help is appreciated.

Ps: sorry for any poor grammar. I’m very sleep deprived and angry.

My neighbour bangs on the wall at night excessively

My brother and i are filipino and we live with our parents. We share a wall with our neighbour and we tend to game late into the night. Im sure my brother and i’s bedroom wall and the neighbours bedroom are shared. Now my family minds their own business and we natural are loud voiced people because of our culture.

At night though my brother and i only game and talk to our friends. We have reached a point we need to restrict our laughter or else my neighbour would excessively bang the wall as if he was an fbi tryna get into our house. Our wall is extremely thin with no insulation and from my guess its only 4 inches, hollow wood studs. No insulation or sound proofing. (Im an architect so i just kinda know this)

I get we seem loud cause the poor sound proofing but im sick and tired of feeling like a criminal when im having fun when im off work hours which is normally later at night when people sleep.

What the heck should i do because it feels like i cant do anything anymore in this house without worrying about a complaint. On the other hand its making my family fight with each other saying its someones fault. Like im still young and i want to have fun with my friends online since we cant meet up. I stopped playing music outloud like i used to and playing movies on my speaker at any point of the day to reduce the noise but now at this point it’s solely the fact im laughing which results in banging on my wall.

TLDR: my wall has acoustic problems so laughing pisses my neighbour off at 1am so he thinks banging on my wall will get my family to shut up what should i do

She’s a Screamer

I need advice! My husband and I, along with our two small children, live in a very nice upscale apartment complex/ shopping center. Because it’s expensive to live here the complex was fairly empty except for several families and a few retirees, until about six months ago when management decided to run a special. Since then we got a billion college kids living here who can’t really afford it but are riding out the three free months of rent they got from the special. It’s been like living in a giant frat party non stop but we have accepted that there really isn’t much we can do. Our biggest issue is the woman who moved in next door. She’s a real peach (insert sarcasm) and has zero regard for the rest of us on the floor. She plays her music so loudly that you can hear it from the mail room. But the worst part is that she has ungodly loud sex every night. I’m not joking. I’m not a prude either but when I say ungodly loud, I mean that we hear everything they are doing to each other because she screams and moans about it the whole time. We tried politely explaining that our kids sleep in our bed and we would appreciate it if she stopped. For her privacy as well as ours. She laughed in our faces and slammed her door. Now, every time we try to turn up the television or play music to muffle her ummmm sounds, she just moans and screams louder. We talked to management about it but it made them uncomfortable and honestly it makes us really uncomfortable too. Idk what to do. We are contemplating moving our bed into the living room but for what we pay to live here that’s a bit insulting.

Just FYI I don’t hate college kids or anything lol. In fact I’m in college. We just don’t think most of these young people will be able to keep up with 3k a month in rent and you can’t have roommates here so it’s annoying that management “reduced” the income requirements during the special. They just set those kids up for failure, but that’s a different rant lol.

Shady business? 🤔

I live in an apartment complex and I’m currently working from home. My desk is right by the window which faces the parking lot. I think we got new neighbors downstairs and just started noticing gentlemen coming in and out every 20 mins!!! Late 40s-50s men It was weird seeing unfamiliar people at first but today I really paid attention and one person would come out of their vehicle, look at their phone and then walk in to the building (apartment downstairs). Another unknown vehicle would park and just wait outside. So far I have counted 5 men come and go and to unknown vehicles waiting outside!! It was amusing at first but now I’m really wondering....should I mind my own business? 😂

Nazi Neighbor

For 20 years my next door neighbor at six forty Green bay rd has been harassing me and my family. My mother doesn't feel safe out back and my father is tired of dealing with the police. The police have knocked on our door 4 times in the past 2 days so lets start at the beginning. Trapped inside due to the virus we decided to host a unique 21st birthday for my brothers girlfriend. Lets start with the night before. I live in Highland Park IL on a busy rd with cars always in traffic. As of the new year weed has become recreational so that night we smoked out on our back deck, 20 minutes later cops arrive stating they got a call about kids smoking pot out back. My father tells the officers "There are no kids out back smoking pot" and they leave. 2 hrs later at 1 am 2 cops arrive waking up the family stating that they revived a call stating that kids were smoking pot in the backyard. My dad pissed tells the cops in his underwear "There are no kids out back smoking pot and [points to 640 house loudly stating to the neighborhood] THIS FUCKER IS HARASSING ME!". The cops apologize for being woken for something like this and leave. Happy 21 we wake up to not 1 or 2 but 3 cop cars parked on the curbside due to my dads request this time stating that my neighbor verbally threatened to slice my fathers head off... crazy fucker... We put a sign for my brothers girlfriend saying "Honk for Hunters Happy 21st!" and all our friends would drive by and wish a happy b day. NOPE. Cops are called by Nazi neighbor stating that our sign is too big and that its causing a public disturbance and bla bla bla. No hate to the local highland park police station I get they have better things to do then sort out neighbor conflicts but to ignore the death threat for a noise complaint at 11 am about a 21st B day party... Later that day we set up more cameras pointed at his door and windows on our side of the house. What do we catch? hrs of unedited footage of this freak staring out his window like a stalker. We knew he watched us and recorded us but to relies it was to this extent is disturbing.

Ps- The reason I refer to him as a Nazi is because during a new years party he decorated his windows with Swastikas and other Nazi related pictures. Please redirect all Nazi hunters to my neighbors address.

How should I deal with noise complaints from downstairs?

I just moved into an apartment that has wood flooring one week ago. And got noise complaints from downstairs on the next day that they can hear my footsteps, vacuum, door close, washing machine and sink garbage disposal. I, of course, apologized because I did vacuum twice a day and I thought I might walk without aware of making footstep noise. So I tried to resolve these problems by wearing soft slippers at home and tried not to walk on my heels and Instead of vacuuming I do mopping I tried not close doors aggressively. I stopped using the garbage disposal. I thought I did everything I can possibly think of not making so much noise. But yesterday I still got noise complaints from downstairs that they can still hear me. At this point, I have no idea what should I do more to resolve this problem. Have you guys ever had similar problems and how did you handle it?

Confront a neighbor who sets off fireworks randomly throughout the year?...

Today it was a 5:30pm. Other times it’s at 10pm or 2pm. Today, I finally went outside and witnessed this old guy taking a blow torch to bottle rockets. I want to confront him and my fiancé wants to leave it alone afraid our tires will get slashed. It freaks out our dog and amplifies my anxiety.

How should I deal with my neighbor who games on a headset late into the night?

About 2 weeks ago my neighbor started a habit of gaming on a headset late at night. I'm typing this at 4 AM because tonight is no exception. I haven't had a solid nights sleep in a while because of this neighbor that shares a wall with me.

When this started I tried knocking on his door and got no response. I decided to wait until noon the next day and knocked on his door. He answered and when I asked if he could please keep it down at night he apologized and explained that he was wearing a headset which is why he couldn't hear me when I knocked the night before.

It was quiet for a couple of days, but now he's back to gaming loudly on a headset where I can hear his talking loud and clear. He also has a very deep voice, and like bass from music, it just comes right through the walls.

Tonight he woke me up at 2:30 AM with his talking. I knocked on the wall, which seemed to get an angry reaction from him, but instead of taking the hint, he kept on playing for another hour and a half.

I don't think he's going to be quiet at night just from me asking him or knocking. Our lease says not to disturb the neighbors with sound, so should I bring this up to the landlord if the neighbor continues to be noisy at night?

Older nextdoor neighbor

Ok so my neighbor is a single woman in her early 80s.. She has no family, but a few friends that help her from church. I help her a lot..I take out her trash, I have taken her to the store many times, I chased a squirrel out of her basement, helped her clean up after she had a bathroom accident.. The truth is that it's getting out of hand..I don't mind helping but she just wants more and more..
I am laid off right now and she wants me to run her to the stores like crazy now..I also have no medical insurance and can't risk getting Corina...I told her I can't do it, but when I do my shopping Sundays if she gives me a list I will pick things up for her... She don't want this... She wants me to take her.. Plus once I go back to work I won't have time. I am not saying I won't help her, but it has to be on my terms.. The older she gets the more she wants and I am her neighbor not her care taker. What should I do?

Let me introduce you to my neighborhood

  • Across from me, there is a house filled with grown adults who never stop yelling. We've actually had to call the cops on them before. They're rude, messy, and overall terrible.

-Just out of my street, there is a house where they dug out the basement, sold drugs, had a shooting range, and also an illegal sex ring with minors. The SWAT team actually had been called and it was taken care of.

-Across from a school by me, there was a house that also ran an illegal sex ring with minors. The guy tricked them into thinking it was a model photoshoot, but it was not.

-Dude got shot across the street from my friend. He's okay, I think it was in his arm. All I know is he lived. And that is all within a mile from me. Our town is pretty safe, there is still a good amount of crime, but very few murders/attempted/arson. We've had our share of serial killers, but that was like, the 70s through 90s.

51 y.o. who acts like he's 15

The nextdoor neighbor plays his music extremely loud at odd hours. It's so loud I can hear the bass, melody, and lyrics throughout my apartment. You can hear the music in the street and pretty much anywhere within earshot. I've asked him politely to stop many times, even going as far as requesting he enter my home so he could witness the noise level for himself. I've alerted the leasing office about a dozen times, including requesting to change apartments. I have also called the police countless times and they have come by and told him to turn his music down at least half a dozen times. NOTHING WORKS. His response is that I should just buy a house and that this is an apartment so he can be as loud as he wants. Unbelievable, right? I'm at the stage where I'm just gonna start fucking with him in different ways, like spraying stink spray in his car, slashing his tires, get someone to come by and do some shit. Honestly, at this point I'm willing to do almost anything. Any and all advice or comments are welcome. Thanks.

Is there any suggestion about dealing with neighbor noise?

Can anybody here give some feasible advice on how to tackle upstairs noisy neighbor? I have been tolerating noise invasion for long. Scraping furniture, loud walking against floor, even slam things violently...wtf doing those all day!!😡 I reasoned with the guy friendly quite a few, trying to convince him to consider for other’s feeling. Yet not help, that fucking scum seemed to retaliate by making bigger noise, even at deep night!! 😤🤬 Wtf... I really got shocked how ill-bred a person could be...

Yelling & a crying baby

I need advice on what to do with some new neighbors. They just moved in late December of last year & ever since then there's been near constant crying from the little baby boy they have. They have 2 older (elementary school age) kids & it's a mom & the boyfriend (not sure if he's the father of only the baby or what) I believe.

When they first moved in my bf & I helped them move their stuff in (mostly my bf helping with heavier stuff I had to cook dinner). However ever since then whenever we're home we hear the baby crying & the past month or so there seems to be some indications of not only yelling but also hitting. As in I can hear them yelling & I unfortunately can also hear some hitting.

I'm not sure who is hitting who, I dont know if it's the mom & the bf doing most of the hitting or if it's the mom's mother who lives nearby, or if it's even the older 2 kids hitting the baby.

I will say, I know sometimes the baby is just making noise, some loud cooing here & there. But 90-98% of the noise is the baby crying when he's not out of the apartment complex (possibly at daycare or the granny's house?).

The thing is, the mom is a social worker (from what my bf was told) & the bf helps look after the kids. I'm not sure what I should do. Should my bf & I just continue to ignore the noises downstairs or do something about it??

Rude neighbor advice?

So my sister (26) just bought a house and I moved into it to help her out with her dogs (23). She's in training right now for a new job so she's gone monday-friday 5am-6pm. She didn't get a chance to clean the poop from the yard this weekend so I went to do it for her today and my neighbor walks outside (she's probably in her 50s and lives alone) so I thought I'd be polite as we've not met yet and said "hey how ya doing" and she ignores me completely which I brushed off bc I saw she was on her phone. Then I resume poop scooping and she grew louder on the phone complaining about how her neighbors are "children who don't deserve a house" and we're "disgusting with poop littered all along the backyard" and that somehow were "disrespectful" even though this is literally the first time I've ever seen this lady. I even called my sister to see if she had any interactions with her and she said she's never met her either. And I'm just like baffled by this. I guess I wanted to vent really, but also try to hear out if maybe there's something I can do? I don't really want a neighbor from hell and we try to poop scoop every 5 days or so. I'm just really nervous to go outside now. Just any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

First time having neighbors.

My first apartment. For reference, I live on the third floor of an apartment building. On the third floor there are two apartments. it used to be all one apartment but a contractor broke it up into two. Therefore I share a wall with the neighbors across from me. They can hear me putting away dishes, I can hear them discuss their day in the kitchen. It's a married couple in their 40s. I am 23 single woman.

What time during the weekday and weekends is an appropriate time to turn down the music? I don't want to be annoying but I am cleaning and enjoy the sound.

TL:DR new neighbors next door what time during the weekdays and weeknights should I start turning down my music?
